I think MSNBC needs to show a 24-loop of the flick, “Groundhog Day” for its recognizing that the good ole ratings-days are back for the network….
A slightly odd night: Rachel on vacay; Lawrence O’Donnell off too, probably prepping to pounce on the Newtster on “MtP”. Still Ezra beat Cement-head “in the demo” and wasn’t very far behind overall. No “Hardball” showing garnered a million-total-viewers. Is something going on to keep people away from their TV sets on a Friday night in December? Beethoven’s Birthday on the 16th?
Another truly abysmal day for Fox “Business” – how much longer can this loser stay on the air?
No Rachel or LarryO but still about equal or better than Hannity and Greta. The gap has narrowed between FNC & MSNBC in the only figure that matters, the demos, and it appears that’s the way it’s going to stay.
@Lance: only figure that matters, the demos? You a buyer? Seller? you have no idea how rates work..
Ad rates are based on the demos not total viewers, whether you like it or not.
Does anyone know if there’s an industry “rule of thumb” on how much more valuable per viewer the “demo” is relative to the “total viewers outside the demo” or the “35-64 demo”?
E.g., is the 25-54 viewer worth 20%? 50%? 100%? more than an under 25 or over 55 viewer?
TIA for any insights.
A recent university study confirms what many have suspected; people who watch Fox News are less informed than people who don’t watch the news at all.
The University of Maryland conducted the poll. Among the results it was found that Fox News viewers were 30% more likely to believe that “most scientists do not agree that climate change is occurring.” Further embarrassment was found when Fox viewers were 14% more likely to believe that “the stimulus bill did not provide any tax cuts.” The stimulus bill included one of the largest tax cuts ever for middle class Americans.
The study’s findings were first mentioned by usnews. com, who reported that a stunning 31% of Fox viewers honestly believe that “it is not clear that Obama was born in the United States.”
Hannity just asked a great question.
Hannity asked if Psy, Gangnam Style, a few years back did a song on stage calling for the killing and torture and slow death of Muslim wives, mothers and daughters instead of doing a song about torturing and killing American wives, mothers and daughters would President Obama have boycotted the Christmas musical that Psy sang at yesterday that President Obama went to where he shook the hand of Psy?
My thought is that President Obama would have boycotted that event. Just like Obama still has that guy in jail who created that video against Muslims that he and Hillary Clinton were so appalled about that they say the Muslims killed and sodomized our Ambassador over.
I don’t see the President or Hillary Clinton the least bit appalled over Psy wanting American wives, mothers and daughters slowly tortured and killed. As a matter of fact, President Obama shook Psy’s hand. Interesting.
Where was the tax cut? I may have gotten an extra $15.00 in my paycheck but the cost of everything from food to insurance premiums went up negating any of that. The President said our insurance premiums would go down and mine went up $137.00 per month.
Redbarsoup—MSNBC viewers ALSO scored worse than those that watched no news st all. According to your precious HuffPo

for you dd if you pop in here this song says tenn.
Diamond Dave:
The study was done by Farleigh Dickenson University. The polling saying that Fox News people scored worse than those that watched no news was done in New Jersey, which is predominantly Democrat, and it was done by Farleigh Dickenson University, which is one of the lowest rated schools in the nation. Since FDU is incapable of teaching their students anything worthwhile to keep them from being so low ranking, I’m figuring that they don’t even know how to take a poll properly, so their credibility is on the low end, just like their academic ranking.
This was also in that Huffington Post article you linked:
Fox News hit out at the school responsible for the study on Thursday. A spokesperson for the network told The Hollywood Reporter, “Considering FDU’s undergraduate school is ranked as one of the worst in the country, we suggest the school invest in improving its weak academic program instead of spending money on frivolous polling – their student body does not deserve to be so ill-informed.”
Good comeback, Fox News.
Now I know why you people are so misinformed on here and don’t know how to research because I copy and pasted an article and you STILL can’t seem to find it on the internet. First of all, this just came out TODAY (the 10th), second of all, it didn’t come from Farleigh Dickenson University, third of all, it didn’t come from the Huffington Post, 4th, it’s from the University of MARYLAND.
HELL, the copy and paste I did EVEN SAID where it came from…..USnews. com ( Hell, I even said in the copy and paste what college it came from and you STILL get that one wrong too! I don’t even know what USnews is but whatever). You guys just seem to be all sorts of ignorant.
University of Maryland says MSNBC viewers polled are not misinformed and Farleigh Dickenson University says MSNBC viewers polled are misinformed worse than those that watched no news!!
So which left wing University’s polls should we believe? I say neither.
@RedBarSoup
Where is the study? I didn’t find any links to a study in the USNews article. Don’t just copy and paste their “findings”. Do you always take these reports as truthful without asking questions?
Oh yeah, perfect excuse, “hey it’s just left winged!!!”. Different questions were asked, they were asked at different times in the year and also the University of Maryland DID find that MSNBC were misinformed just not NEARLY as bad as Fox News viewers were…..so get it right.
MSNBC took some hits, but it was the daily viewers of Fox News who were significantly more misinformed about healthcare, climate change, and Barack Obama. They were 14 points more likely to mistakenly believe that “the stimulus legislation did not include any tax cuts,” and 13 points more likely to erroneously believe that “the auto bailout only occurred under Obama,” and 12 points more likely to hold the incorrect belief that “when TARP came up for a vote most Republicans opposed it.” By 30 points, they mistakenly believed that “most scientists do not agree that climate change is occurring.”
Do you always take these reports as truthful without asking questions?
Uhhh, yes I do. When I see a study conducted that already is proven for a fact from me talking to people where I live, I do usually take the report as truthful. 90% of the people that I talk to on a daily basis that watch Fox News and are so misinformed on EVERYTHING, I’ve known this for years, then this research comes up AGAIN for the second time this year that proves just that, so yes, I’m going to accept it as truthful research/reporting. But hey, we all know that the people in here will just say “it’s a left winged college full of stupid liberal professors!!!”

You call others ignorant when you don’t even know the source you’re quoting. Where is the study?
