Our Renew / Cancel Index predicts the network's decision on renewal or cancellation for scripted broadcast primetime shows by the end of the 2012-13 season in May, 2013. (includes results from September 17-December 9, 2012):

Program Status Renew/ Cancel Index
Nikita (F) :) :) :) :) 0.45
Emily Owens, M.D. canceled 0.52
Gossip Girl final season 0.53
90210 :| :| :| 0.67
Hart Of Dixie :| :| :| 0.78
Beauty And The Beast :| :| :| 0.97
Supernatural      1.25
Arrow      1.69
Vampire Diaries      1.95

All three of the CW shows in the "mediocre middle" (90210, Hart Of Dixie, Beauty & The Beast) scored the same 0.5 adults 18-49 ratings last week. If that continues, which one of the three is going to get canceled?

Given similar ratings, I'm inclined to believe that 90210 gets a short farewell season. In deciding between a weak sophomore show (Hart Of Dixie) and a weak freshman show (Beauty & The Beast) I'm inclined to believe the CW picks the sophomore. However, comparable ratings in early December do not always lead to comparable ratings in the spring (ask the bitter Secret Circle fans!). Fans of all three shows will probably  remain worried until May.

How can Nikita with the lowest ratings on the network be "likely to be renewed"? The pull of a fourth season for syndication purposes is one of the strongest forces in the TV universe. Read more about it here.

  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Part of the issue is networks do make international sales so people around the world do take an interest the other thing is network do and should look at what will appeal to other areas of the world.

  • Fred

Reidjr But what Sebastian did was not that at all.

  • Manola

I think that The beauty and beast is impassioning, charming and that a possibility deserves it. I follow it from the beginning and I don’t have intention to leave that they cancel it.

Is there a lot of sock puppetry going on or do that many people really think ‘delete’ is the proper term for canceling a show?

  • Holly

While I wouldn’t rule out sockpuppetry (Robert or Bill can do that if they want), it’s just as likely that posters are just parroting the language, kind of like the ridiculous flop names.

  • Bill Gorman

“Is there a lot of sock puppetry going on or do that many people really think ‘delete’ is the proper term for canceling a show?”

In this case it was sock puppetry, of a kind that went to some trouble to disguise itself, which typically means we will be unable to prevent it, but I gave it a shot.

  • Amy

I love Hart of Dixie please!!!!

  • Maggie Mary

This is for CW: do not cancel Beauty And The Beast!!!

  • Emily

I hope 90210 will be cancelled this show doesn’t deserve another season…

  • Kristin

Do not cancel beauty and the beast. It my absolute favorite show. Its the only show I watch. After vampire diaries took a turn to the worst. Please keep beauty and the beauty its my luv!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mate

    90210, Short Final 13 Episodes.
    Hart of Dixie, Renewed.
    Beauty and the Beat, Cancelled!

  • Diana

I love Beauty And The Beast!!! It’s my new favorite show after The Vampire Diaries! I don’t want it to be cancelled! I will be heartbroken! It’s the best!!! I think everyone should see it!! I LOVE BEAUTY AND THE BEAST & IT DESERVES SEASON 2!!!

And to all the haters here,
WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU ALL?! Beauty And The Beast is best!! Why can’t you just give it a chance! I understand Secret Circle didn’t do too well. But that doesn’t mean Beauty And The Beast took their time slot after The Vampire Diaries. All the fans ( including myself!) of Beauty And The Beast are true & loyal fans of the show & we will fight it to keep it on & pray for the second season!!

A trick question surely? All of them. 90210 seems like it’s been around forever. Hart of Dixie renewal would kick in the renewal for syndication purposes and after the Nikita experience this year CW may not want to risk a repeat. Beauty and the Beast seems to be goingnowhere in the ratings. CW needs more shows to save the network, inmy view, and the number of shows cancelled will be detwermined to a degree by the strength of the new shows the network has in pilot.

I’m absolutely agree with you Diana!!!!!!!! You’re not alone! ;-)

  • Lauren

Diana, you consider there is something wrong with people who have a different opinion? The real question is what’s wrong with YOU?

I love Hart Of Dixie. And I don’t insult people who love another show.

  • Kris

I’m a fan of Beauty and the Beast, but I think “Beasties” and HoD fans should team up to get the CW to nix 90210. Then both shows could possibly be renewed. 90210 has passed the synidcation number, anyway. I know the CW hasn’t announced anything about this being 90210’s final season, but it seems they would make more people happy by canceling 90210 and keeping the other 2 shows, somewhere in their lineup.

  • Claudia

Im a loyal fan of BATB, never watched another show in the CW since Roswell when it was WB, Im HOPING THEY give BATB another chance is growing on people a lot, and it can go somewhere. It has everything specially the romantic part!!!! TO CW, you better not cancel this show, move it to another time slot or whatever we will all follow….

  • Huh?

Beauty and the Beast is pretty much just a teeny bit lower then Supernatural. I don’t see the problem.

  • Shawn

Hart of Dixie deserves to be renewed. When I first heard about it, I thought it sounded stupid. Well I was wrong. It is a well written show, with a good balance of comedy and drama. The acting is great!

Beauty & the Beast- I can imagine it has a weird, nerdy, loyal die-hard fans, that will not let the show go down without a fight. If it were up to me. I would cancel it, but make it a webseries on the internet.

90210- I grew up watching the original. I was devastated when I heard about the re-boot. However, I only tuned in to watch Shannen Doherty return as Brenda. I watched a few episodes after Brenda left and was disappointed. My choice- cancel it!
