US888 and beedavisjr Money in the hands of the people is always better than money in the hand of the government when it comes to the economy Government spending has only a short term good effect on the economy.
But think about what you are saying. The government has to keep spending to keep the economy goings?? Taxes on the rich only give us 9 days of spending, so we can spend for nine days. After that the U.S. has to increase it’s debt to spend money. When we increase our debt the value of the dollar goes down. As the dollar goes our economy goes. Increasing our debt hurts are economy.
I don’t know what economist you are listening to. But it sounds like they slept they way through college and they don’t understand what is good or bad.
Mark says: “…making more then 250K(where the increase taxes kick in)”
Sorry for the delay, had to replace the toilet resevoir stopper.
In theory, Obama says he doesn’t want an increase in tax rates for individuals earning less than $250K (or joint filers earning less than $200K each).
His plan did not address an AMT patch. AMT will affect earners of incomes less than $250K. This will affect many people. I want to be proven wrong on this one.
A multitude of deductions and exemptions are affected.
Then, add to this increase in Medicare wittholdings by 0.9% as part of Obamacare. I am not remembering what the increase in SS wittholding will be.
@Cathy
here goes the 8-9 days spending right wing talking points. Fox has taught you well I see. people need to stop watching cable news altogether lol. so many ways to debunk this, sighs. which way to carve this up? Obama is not only proposing Taxes rates to go up, he’s proposed the SAME BOWLES-SIMPSON Plan!!!! YOU CONSERVATIVES WANTED!!! Now all of a sudden, don’t Want. All because the Tea-Party(Norquist) are threatening the speakers authority & to challenge congressman in upcoming races. Smh!
@beedavisjr
Please debunk the 8-9 day spending talking point. Before I ever heard this right-wing talking point, I did some rough number crunching and came up with 30 to 40 days.
I’m outta here for the night. Good night everyone.

…Obama is not only proposing Taxes rates to go up, he’s proposed the SAME BOWLES-SIMPSON Plan!!!! YOU CONSERVATIVES WANTED!!! Now all of a sudden, don’t…
**********
When I first read this, I thought that maybe I was missing something. I did some digging around and discovered this is false. There are significant differences between the Simpson-Bowles plan and what Obama has been offering. Admittedly, Obama has been proposing lower taxes across the board (even for the top 2%) as compared to Simpson-Bowles, but Obama is also demanding smaller decreases in future spending cuts to support more stimulus spending as compared to the Simpson-Bowles plan (these are cuts to increases in future spending, not cuts to present spending levels). Obama wants this spending to support infrastructure (which I support) and extensions to unemployment compensation (which I don’t).
This must be an MSNBC talking point that says Obama’s plan and the Simpson-Bowles plan are the SAME so that they can continue to push the ideology that the Republicans are the party of NO: “look, they supported it before but now they don’t just because its now Obama’s plan.”
I also see that there was no effort to provide one of those MANY ways to debunk the 8-9 day spending talking point. Long before I ever heard this talking point, I did rough caculations to see how many days of government spending can be supported by raising the peak rate to 39.6% for the top 2% (neglecting deductions); I came up with a whopping 30-40 days. That was just based on publicly available numbers, which I tried to validate from multiple sources, and assuming present spending levels.
I swear, I just need to stop taking the bait of the liberal lunacy.
Gooood Morning!
I might have pushed the envelope just a bit much and I am paying the price today BUT………………..had a great day with a lot of Christmas cheer and fun! Glad it is over though cuz it is a lot of work!

55 Reasons Why California Is The Worst State In America
http://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/archives/55-reasons-why-california-is-the-worst-state-in-america
Good morning – We had 8 – 12″ on snow early yesterday morning, so I was on the ski slopes by 9:30 and closed the lifts. The skiing was great.
Cathy – You are headed in the right direction on your economics. The increase in taxes on the wealthy that they are talking about will reduce the sending and investing of the wealthy but will not be significant enough that Politically anybody can claim it damaged the economy.
The problem is that the tax revenue will not close the Budget Deficit and government spending will continue going up. Government spending will not be reduced because that will slow the economy activity of the Politically active groups.
Since the tax increase did not have a significant Political economic impact, government will pursue another tax increase expanding the definition of wealthy. We can see this going on in MD.
In order for a Political Party to maintain their Popularity to control government they must maintain spending on their targeted political supporters. The Democratic Party needs to maintain their spending and their public opinion in order to get control of the House in 2014. So do not expect spending cuts from Democrats. There is not a Political solution. All Political Solutions result in either Inflation or a Financial Bubble. There are two Political Parties and they only know two solution methods to solve economic problems.
Hey Ratboy–good job on the toys. Sure hope you haven’t done any further damage to your back. It is human nature isn’t it to want to continue to do things even when we are hurt. I certainly have done so and my type A husband is the worlds worst when it comes to taking care of himself when he is hurt.
Big Ben–I just hope the rest of us don’t end up paying for CA ideology–
Mt Rick–good summary and right one

The writer of your link has summed it up. California is nuts. Beautitul state, but going down the tubes economically. The writer also rephrased the old addage, “as California goes, so goes the nation”.
Unfortunately, I think this addage will come true once again.

Well said.
I would only offer the critique that ‘inflation or financial bubble’ are one in the same.

BTW Rats, thanks for doing what you’re doing with Toys for Tots.
@ BTW Rats, thanks for doing what you’re doing with Toys for Tots.
It is my honor and pleasure to do it! This last summer my sister and brother in laws resort/trailer park had an auction with the 30 recreation trailer owners and I was there and we raised over $4000 bucks in one night so my niece takes the money and uses her Walmart manager discount and bought presents for 68 needy kids! I have been very fortunate in my life so I love giving it away to those who truly deserve it! I also sent my Christmas donation to the Wounded Warriors. That is what Christmas is all about! Happy holiday my a$$, it is Merry Christmas or nothing!
It’s so hard to say Happy Holidays.
@Ratboy
“That is what Christmas is all about! Happy holiday my a$$, it is Merry Christmas or nothing!”
___________________________________________________________
I say “Merry Christmas”, and then add “or Happy Holidays if you celebrate something else”.
Again, thanks. I used to be much more active with projects like what you are involved with through the church or work with shelters. The last few years, I only seem to end up buying a meal for a homeless guy in line at Arbys or buy an extra promo book at Barnes and Nobles or something. I do help people out throughout the year, though. I think after this year, after all my BIG taxes are paid and I’ve finally dumped the baggage from the ex-marriage, I’ll perk back up.

8 days, 40 days, 100 days, it’s neither here nor there – I don’t know why conservatives continually act like an upper income tax increase is somehow the be-all, end-all plan. It’s certainly the thing we’ve been talking the most about in the last several months, but that doesn’t mean it’s a stand-alone solution, it means it’s part of solving the ‘problem.’
Present CBO projections show the impact of allowing the upper income tax cuts to expire will reduce growth by only 0.1% of GDP. Now, that’s not nothing, but it’s also well below the growth reduction that will be suffered from just about any other sort of spending cuts or tax increases. It only makes sense, then, that if we’re going to practice moderate austerity, that a part of that deficit reduction come in the form that will damage the economy the least.
Conservatives have little room to complain here – Not just because they lost the election, and not just because polling on this issue is against them, but because they’re now getting hit by the double-edged sword of their own sovereign debt doomsaying. If you’re going to spend four years crying “America is getting too fat! America is getting too fat! America is getting too fat!” then you can’t act all indignant when you get served a big plate of broccoli.
Congressman Jason Chaffetz (R- UT) told Breitbart News on Wednesday that he has been “thwarted” by the State Department from seeing any Americans who survived the deadly attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi.
I don’t know what state they’re from. I don’t even know how many there are. It doesn’t seem right to me.This is so patently different than any other experience I’ve had. Unfortunately, people have been killed and maimed and in harm’s way in Afghanistan and Iraq and in points beyond. It’s typically been the case that they would release those names but in this case, they won’t. My challenge is to the media. You try and figure it out. They won’t let Congress know. They won’t seem to let the media know either.”
