   R&I wasn’t that interesting this week.

   Leverage wasn’t outstanding, but had a fairly complicated plot which proves the writers are still up to snuff. Problem with Leverage this season is that it’s been almost entirely procedural, with no overall story arc. They may be marking time since there’s no renewal yet. They may go out with no cliffhanger and no actual “end”.

   Watch Discovery will bring back American Chopper sans Senior within a year. But the sequel/spinoff will feature only Paul Jr’s Designs, no OCC. Bet on it.

   Leverage was good last night, but the show has lost a lot of its shine. I’m not sure the problem is that it’s too procedural. A good procedural can be great if the stories stay fresh and interesting. It’s just been preachy and mopey and taking itself really seriously lately. An episode like this one was a breath of fresh air after the heavy-handed stuff the last two weeks.

    LPBW has been on for what, like 5 years almost? The “Wedding Farm” thing was a stupid idea, IMO.

    I think I’d rather see them back for just specials. It’s run its course IMO.

    Rizzoli and Isles is doing OK, remember this is a summer show, it niche is when broadcast is all repeats.

    It’s still doing worse than last year. I think it’s suffering the general disaffection towards procedurals of the last few years and especially this year. And also being on TNT it certainly doesn’t help its demo.

    I honestly don’t get why a show named after two title characters is not a character-based show but a crime of the week show (I don’t watch the show, but reading the comments here and the description of the episodes it seems a very standard crime of the week procedural for the most part with b stories about secondary characters. The skew also confirms that). It seems counter productive to me in this competitive landscape. And Jesus, you are on cable, be daring.

    Leverage has become a classic procedural in the last few seasons. Characters hardly matter, plus even the majority of the plots per season are weak and uninteresting. No wonder it’s the lowest-rated TNT show at the moment and is facing cancellation.

    They need a new showrunner who has a different and better vision for the show and writers who have more talent than the current ones.

    People complain all the time about procedurals. My favorite shows have always been procedural. Besides, when shows focus on character, other people complain “It’s like a soap opera.” You can’t please anyone.

    Honestly I keep forgetting R&I is on this time of the year and I suspect I’m not the only one which accounts for the ratings.
    As for Leverage, IMO, it’s not so much that it’s become a procedural as that the characters have become domesticated. I mean, Sofi’s brought her acting group along on how many cons lately? Parker is pretty much sane now and Hardison would just like to set up a house and home with her. Nate doesn’t have much angsty passion (and the drinking seems under control) and finds his peace hanging out with Sofi; really the only one unsettled and unpaired and still somewhat ‘dynamic’ (in a character sense) is Elliot. I think that tends to ‘mute’ the premise of bad guys being good guys.They’re not really the bad element of the international jet set anymore, more like the slightly naughty element of the suburbs. lol Still I wish them well and hope they get a nice wrap up.

    I can agree with that re: Leverage. The show lost a lot of its dynamic character element when all the couples started coming together. They’re all domesticated, and I think even Elliot is kinda boring, always spouting off his kung fu wisdom to everyone. If this is the writers’ idea of developing character, they need to go back to the drawing board. The first 3 seasons of this show were a lot of fun, but it jumped the shark sometime in the back half of season 4.

    I don’t think couples coming together is the problem, some shows do it well like The Closer, the problem is in how nothing ever happens with them, they get no interesting personal scenes as characters. In this case all you have left to watch for is the con of the week and you get tired of that same old, same old pretty quickly if characters get nothing else to do besides the con.
