Sure they do. They are separate airings with separate commercials and are rated separately for that reason.
Odds are American Chopper will morph into a show just about Paul Jr. Nobody wants to see the cranky walrus running OCC and his doofus toadie Jason “I’m a real life industrial designer!” ” Pohl – the guy looks like he is psychotic and just a step away from killing everyone at OCC and putting Paul Sr. head on the front of one of the OCC motorcycles and driving around Orange County until he is arrested and put in a padded cell in Bellevue Hospital.

Focusing on character has nothing to do with being a soap opera. Quite the opposite. Obviously if a showrunner, writer, director, editor know how to write a character based show. It has nothing to do with cheesy and trite dialogues, ridiculous plots out of nowhere badly executed, characters doing a 180 turn around – the worst mistake they always do.
You can almost do a character-based just with a good directing and pacing of the scenes. It’s HOW you do something, because at the end of the day, the plots and themes you can write are a dozen, not more.
To make some examples, Tony Sopranos was an amazingly written character, Walter White is another. On the other hand, Grey’s Anatomy is a soap.
I can be in Lancaster, PA in a short time. Might have to go there & see if i can find Levi. He shouldn’t be to hard to find. How many Amish drive a Cadillac?
