Will the 'Scandal' Ratings Surge Hold? - Poll

The writers and producers of Scandal and ABC's marketing department deserve some recognition. Last week's episode, which revealed #whoshotFitz (seriously, excellent work with that ubiquitous hashtag , ABC) hit a series high 2.5 adults 18-49 rating, up from a 2.2 for its heavily hyped previous episode. Prior to the launch of this storyline, the show typically hit a 2.0 or 1.9 adults 18-49 rating. The question is whether the ratings will hold now that the storyline is switching from #whoshotFitz to #whyshotFitz. (Update: some of you took that description of the plot's change in direction really literally. The actual official hashtag for this week's episode is #whatthehuck.) Make your predictions about the ratings for tonight's episode (#whatratingFitz) below and check back here tomorrow to find out if you're right.

I think it’s unlikely that it’ll hold up. The shooter has been revealed! That was the big deal. Maybe a 2.2.

i hope they can keep the momentum going! scandal really seems to be blowing up and as i recall, grey’s anatomy didn’t start out as the ratings cash cow it is today- it worked up to it. hope it can keep a 2.4..

Is this the most boring show on in its time slot?

No. That dubious distinction belongs to Elementary.

  4. POIFanatic

    I think it’ll get 2.3.

Is that why Elementary gets more views than Scandal. Last week Elementary had over 10 million while Scandal had 7 million. Yes it did better in the 18-49 but not in the number of ppl watching.

I’m not knockin Scandal tho. I enjoy both shows just don’t watch Scandal live anymore.

    I think it’ll go down to 2.4..

    Hope >2.4 Go Scandal

    Hopefully down, A LOT.

@ Rob, you hate on Max, but you’re also stirring the pot

I predict Scandal will get a 2.3, but adjust down a bit

if it does all the way down to 2.1 or lower, that’ll be disappointing. if it does 2.2-2.3, good. if 2.4-2.5, awesome. if above 2.5, amazing. but being realistic is to how last week was hyped and it’s mid-decemeber and a not-so-great week for ABC, i’ll go with 2.2.

Back down. Likely to a 2.1, then lower after the winter hiatus.

    Erm No!!!

2.4 which is still hit status… anything over 2.2 is nowadays.

  14. Hugh

    2.3

You have to count that Grey’s will probably be a better lead-in this week than it was last week, so even if Scandal drops because it’s not overlyhyped anymore I still think it could be the second best number of the series, 2.3!

You do realize that total viewership is completely irrelevant, right? Let’s say “show A” averages 15 million viewers per week with a 2.5 demo, and “show B” averages 10 million viewers a week with a 4.0 demo. “Show B” is getting more money from advertisers.

  17. Joe Petitjean

    2.5 to 2.4

I have really been enjoying the storylines on Scandal. There are several sub-plots of which one, Huck, has taken front and center. I think the story writing is brilliant. Sometimes I have to replay the show to get the details in my head correctly. Great show with great actors. Kerry Washington is supurb! The ratings can’t help but go up.

Why no update on the results for the episode rating?
