usa: Yes, I carry it everywhere.

All I’m looking to do is get the shot in the heart or in the head if they’re wearing gear.

You’re right, against a semi automatic my gun is nothing. Since the only reason I have a gun is for protection, then all I want to be able to do is stop the shooter and possibly save my life and the lives of others.

I go to the range every month for that purpose. I want to be a good shot. And also at the range you spend an hour or two just TRYING to imagine that I can be level headed and clear headed in the midst of chaos and not panic and do what needs to be done. These are certainly no guarantees.

And, of course, if there’s two of them, then I can only hope there’s someone else of my mind frame there as well.

  • BevAG

usa, how do you answer the fact that Norway has a ban an all semiautomatic weapons to all citizens but yet the shooter who killed all those people in Norway used a semi automatic?

The philosophy that if semi automatics are illegal to citizens that’s going to save them is certainly not correct when you look at the Norway massacre.

Just because something is outlawed, no one can be naive enough to think they’re not going to be used.

Let’s just say for some fairytale reason that did happen. The US outlaws all semi autos and the criminals, mentally ill ACTUALLY follow the law. I would say this mentally ill young man yesterday would have built a bomb and blew up the school just like the Aurora shooter also built a bomb to blow up his neighborhood. Now if the Aurora shooter didn’t shoot up the theater which lead the police to his apartment, his bombs would have blew up the neighborhood. Either way the Aurora guy was hell bent on creating mayhem. It was going to happen, gun control or not.

  • usa8888

Have you heard about Huckabee’s latest absurd statement. Huck is a Fox personality who suggests that the school shooting is a result of there being no religion in schools…..say what???????

  • Faith3

Right the motive was to create mayhem and the question still hasn’t been answered why we should make it legal for the general population to be able to have military style weapons. One less thing to cause mayhem and there is no good reason to allow access of these weapons to the general public.

    Yes RedBarSoup,

I noticed that too. No one has addressed the reason we should make military style weapons legal for the general public to use. I’ve never heard of a good argument yet.

    ==========================

The round from an assault rifle typically does more damage than a regular handgun, and it allows you to deliver it from a longer distance. In other words, you defend yourself better against a criminal carrying a .357 Magnum when you have an M16 in your hand.

  • usa8888

Bev–here’s the point. If one does NOTHING about the gun situation, it will continue to occur and at an increasing fequency as we have seen. If you heavily regulate military style weapons, there is a good chance that the deadliness of deranged shooters’ activities will be decreased. Of course, Al Capone types will continue to get lethal weapons.

Further, you mentioned that you would shoot the guy in the heart–not if he has body armor. And to try to shoot someone in the head when they have an automatic weapon firing at you …good luck!

  • BevAG

Faith: Norway has a ban on all semi automatic weapons to all its citizens. Yet the Norway shooter use a semi automatic weapon to kill all those people in Norway.

  • BevAG

usa, I said also if he was wearing gear I would be shooting in the head.

My hope would be that I could hear the gunfire and I could get behind him. Certainly if I’m in his sights, I’m a dead person, so I can offer no help. But if I’m not in his sights, I’m going to hope that I can do whatever I can so me and others aren’t sitting ducks like they were yesterday in that school or on that island in Norway or in that theater in Aurora.

  • Faith3

Ah yes Gabe! That IS a good reason for every citizen to carry a military style weapon. Not sure why it took so long for someone to hit that point. Snipper guns would be great for the average citizen to hide behind bushes to target potential risks. How about hand held surface to air missiles? That would allow the ultimate in protection.

  • Faith3

So BevAG, that is your good reason to make military type weapons available for the general public?

  • RedBarSoup

I tell you what. This Bevag guy is just HOPING some MFer does something around him!

  • BevAG

RedBarSoup, I’m a woman, not a guy. I’m protecting myself so that if some MFer does something around me I can protect myself and others so we’re not sitting ducks like, again, they were yesterday, like they were in Norway, like they were in Aurora.

I’ve lived 55 years. I’ve owned a gun since I was 18. I have never had an incident. Now, if I was HOPING, as you say, to have an incident, it would have happened in the 36 years I’ve owned a gun.

Faith, you must acknowledge that because semi automatics are outlawed doesn’t mean people aren’t going to use semis to kill people, right? You do acknowledge that Norway outlaws all semis to its citizens and the Norway shooter killed all those people with a semi. You do acknowledge that what you’re promoting doesn’t stop violence, I hope.

usa, I said also if he was wearing gear I would be shooting in the head

G Gordon Liddy stated that the common person should shoot them in the balls. He said that if you were at least close. You would take them out. G Gordon Liddy is a former special forces. Highly decorated military officer. He also was in charge of the Watergate break-ins. I agree with him totally. Because I may not hit them between the eyes. He said that the impact of even being close around your balls will take you down.

  • Faith3

Really? So, you’re saying that because outlawing these military type weapons hasn’t stopped some of the most horrific crimes from happening it makes it acceptable to allow them to be legal to the general population? Have you heard of a thing called logical fallacy?

  • Doug Z

The Europeans outlawed weapons about 750 A.D. for the common man. It was easier for royalty to control the general population. Just remember the military were all royalty.

    Politicians love unarmed peasants!

  • bishop

I heard these murders were carried out with two handguns and the rifle was left.in his car. But he had to be carrying a bunch of clips.

  • Faith3

Right, so the public so be armed like a militia.

  • Doug Z

The United States is unlike Europe allows weapons because they were not controlled by the royalty or the feudal system. This whole system was devised to control the peasants. The United States population likes to think of themselves as not being peasants.

  • Faith3

    ^should^

  • Doug Z

This is a great opportunity for the government to take away all weapon.

Everybody remember politicians love unarmed peasants
