via press release:

ABC ranked #1 on Friday evening in Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34.

From 8-9pm, ABC’s compatible comedy combo of Last Man Standing and Malibu Country delivered 100% audience retention across all key Adult demos from the first half-hour to the second half-hour. In addition, the comedies made ABC the #1 network in the hour with Adults 18-34 and Women 18-34.

  • · ABC’s Last Man Standing stood as the most-watched TV show in its half-hour, growing its overall audience by 8% week to week and holding 100% of its Adult 18-49 number. The ABC comedy posted its most-watched telecast in 4 weeks – since 11/16/12.

  • · ABC’s Malibu Country increased week to week in Total Viewers (+8%) and Adults 18-49 (+7%), equaling a 5-week high in with young adults – since 11/9/12.

During the 9 o’clock hour, ABC’s repeat Shark Tank took second place among Adults 18-49, beating NBC’s first-run Take It All by 9% and Fox’s first-run Fringe by 9%.

Building over its lead-in during the 10 o’clock hour, ABC’s 20/20 earned second in its time period with viewers and key adults (AD18-49/AD25-54). The ABC newsmagazine provided continuing coverage of the tragic shooting at an Elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut.

  • · 20/20 delivered its largest audience since March – since 3/30/12.

  • · ABC’s 20/20 was up year over year in the key Adult 25-54 news demo for its 8th consecutive broadcast.

It’s my understanding that for most of the past year, Univision was number-one in the 18-34 demo on Friday nights, so I wonder if ABC’s bragging of being number-one in the 18-34 demo last night (December 14th) was just among English-language broadcast networks, among all broadcast networks, or among all networks, broadcast and cable.

“20/20″‘s “largest audience since March (30th)” has to do with interest in the Connecticut school massacre that morning. That boosted the numbers.

@Joseph, the English networks PR generally does not acknowledge the results for non-English networks.

I hope ABC does a test run for Malibu Country or Last Man Standing where it airs after The Middle to see if it does better than The Neighbours.

  • Dan

@B plus – Nahh both shows will remain on Fridays until the end of the season. ABC will likely order more episodes if they hold up. ABC Wednesday is crowded this season.

Its funny when the fall’s highest rated new comedy is airing fridays and pulling a 1.5. LMS and MC are doing great but the other tuesday comedies, not so good.

^Isn’t The Neighbors faring a bit better? I had no interest in that show after watching the first few minutes when it premiered.

  • Dan

@JR – The Neighbors is doing better but the difference is Malibu Country retains 95-100% of its lead in while The Neighbors drops from it’s Middle lead in and then the numbers jump higher when Modern Family is on. The Neighbors is the Better With You of this season and will probably be cancelled in May. Malibu Country has a better chance of returning.
