As of this writing The Killing is still not officially resurrected for a third season despite any reports to the contrary that you may have read. But the production team had been mobilizing in preparation for an official pick-up from AMC. The one-word question that news generally elicited was: why?
The theory I saw posited by many that made the most sense to me was that even though AMC had picked up Hell On Wheels for a third season, when the muckity mucks on the production team quit, the show's future was in limbo. AMC needed something to fill that void in case things didn't move forward with Hell On Wheels, and that was The Killing.
But with a new showrunner on board, Hell On Wheels is no longer in limbo. It's pick-up of 10 episodes is officially official. What does that mean for The Killing? Is there a 'The Killing: Now More Canceled Than Ever!" post coming in the future? If the theory outlined above was behind the talks of its revival, one might speculate the news about Hell On Wheels isn't good news for The Killing.
If a third season of The Killing is not to be, that news will certainly get out. But don't be surprised if there's no official statement from AMC. While in a somewhat rare move AMC did officially make a statement about cancelling The Killing, it hasn't officially commented on its revival yet.
Changes This Week:
Besides the update to Hell On Wheels, this week's other changes all involved TV Land shows -- The Soul Man and The Exes were renewed while Retired At 35 was canceled.

Most of the shows on the list have statuses - if there isn't a status that just means there has been no announcement at the time of the most recent update (see date at top of post and/or above the table below).
If you find errors or omissions (excluding unscripted shows, kids shows or shows that have not aired yet) please note them in the comments and I'll update the table.
Notes:
- Kids shows and Adult Swim shows are not on the list below
- I've seen some squawking about shows on the list below that are owned/created by networks/studios outside of the United States. For purposes of this list, which focuses on U.S. cable networks, I'm only focused on where the shows air here in U.S.
- Shows from overseas like Downton Abbey & Sherlock that air on PBS in the U.S. are not in the list below (PBS is not a cable network), though ITV has renewed Downton Abbey for a 4th season in the UK which will ultimately air in the states.
- Despite some current inconsistencies in the table below, I do not intend to track episode orders or return dates specifically in this table at this time. The primary goal of the table is: what's been renewed, what's been canceled, and what shows fates haven't been decided yet.

Really hope Killing’s not re-cancelled, probably shouldn’t have put so much stock in all the rumors
Not surprised w/ Retired At 35 being canceled & never understood the following (or lack thereof) for “The Killing.”
as a fan of television for close to 40 years now , a canceled show is never shocking. disappointment yes. shocking. no. the walking dead could be cancelled due to anything.
I am so utterly lost.I thought Netflix was reviving The Killing not AMC.
@ jenny the rumor was that both netflix and amc would produce the next season together.
Problem really is that with The Walking Dead setting records, AMC will want their other shows to perform better than they currently are, the bar has been raised so to speak at AMC and they can afford to be picky with what shows they keep and what shows they axe now.
I’m starting to wonder if we’re ever going to get a renewal decision on Drop Dead Diva and Leverage.
I believe Cinemax has decided to go ahead with Hunted. However, while the character of Sam will be kept, the show will be “re-conceptualized” as Cinemax admitted the show as it was would be too expensive to be done without the support of the BBC, So the show will get either a “season two” or a new “season one”, depending on your viewpoint.
The show could be slow at times, but it was pretty good.
LMAO – I adore the ‘Doctor Who’ status!!
“I’m starting to wonder if we’re ever going to get a renewal decision on Drop Dead Diva and Leverage.”
You’ll get decisions.
You probably won’t get announcements if they are canceled, but the news will eventually get out.
We’ve got to get the Cancellation Bear an assistant who can cancel cable shows.
Maybe we can recruit a Cancellation Wolf to do the job!

The bear, and any other anthropomorphized animals we can imagine ourselves into, are just not up to it.
What about Duck Dynasty? It’s not on the list…

I remain hopeful that sooner or later the Cancellation Clown will make an impromptu appearance some summer day!
What about Duck Dynasty? It’s not on the list…
this list is for scripted shows only. While there are reasonable arguments to be made that shows like Duck Dynasty, Real Housewives and WWE RAW are scripted, I’m not tracking them here.
True Blood , Breaking Bad , DEXTER : The best cable shows that I am going to miss next year … :/
@Jake
Is True Blood getting canceled? I think only Alan Ball is leaving.
Netflix is going to support AMC and Fox TV production-wise. That is a major reason as to why AMC is reviving it.
What AMC is waiting to Renew The Walking Dead ? It hasa higher demo than The Big Bang Theory and its viewership is the highest for a cable Show.
@Dean W Its probably a 2 or 3 year renewel for TWD and maybe negotiating a episode order.
