We're into the holiday season for the Renew / Cancel Index and this post before the holiday break gives readers a chance to pick which shows they'd cancel were they a network programmer. You can vote as many times as you'd like, pick as many as you'd like. I've included every show, even canceled ones, so that no one feels left out!

Scheduling note: The Renew / Cancel Index will return with new Indexes and predictions on January 8, 2013 and will then only use the ratings since December 31, 2012 for its calculations for the remainder of the season. Expect prediction changes in the first weeks of 2013.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Why include shows that are already canceled?

  • James

The only way I see CSI NY being canned is if Golden Boy is a success. CSI NY is doing practically the same business as last year. Should Golden Boy be a flop, I expect The Mentalist will be the show to bite the dust, it is an outside production and so has no syndication revenue to buoy up below par ratings (unlike NY and Good Wife).

  • Roy

    Cancel Elementary!

  • SherLOCKED

CBS needs to cancel CSI:NY, Vegas, And TGW.

Let another show premiere/move to Friday at 9pm and let CSI:NY RIP.
Vegas can’t last long the way it’s going…
TGW and The Mentalist are tied at 0.65 The thing that TM has going for it is the syndication deal it has. Unless I’m wrong, TGW still has no syndication deal…

  • James

    >TGW and The Mentalist are tied at 0.65 The thing that TM has going for it is
    >the syndication deal it has. Unless I’m wrong, TGW still has no syndication
    >deal…

The Mentalist is not made by CBS. Any syndication deal is irrelevant to CBS in their renewal/cancellation decision.

“Why include shows that are already canceled?”

If I didn’t, another commenter would whine about them *not* being in.

  • Wright

Keep Elementary, NCIS, NCIS:LA, and Criminal Minds.

  • gustavo

IMHO CSI NY and The mentalist will be cancel.

  • David

    RENEWED:

    Mike & Molly
    The Big Bang Theory
    2 Broke Girls
How I Met Your Mother (depending on cast negotiations)
    Blue Bloods
    Hawaii Five-0
    Criminal Minds
    CSI
    NCIS
    NCIS: Los Angeles
    Elementary
    The Good Wife
    Person Of Interest

    CANCELLED:

    The Mentalist
    CSI: New York
    Vegas
    Partners
    Made In Jersey

CSI: New York really depends on the performance of Golden Boy, but the way things stand, it’s being canned.

I wish Vegas was doing better

I think it is time for CSINY to go. I used to be a huge fan, but I think it should have ended after MK left. I love SW as an actress, but when MK left it killed the show. IMOA

  • Mr Mumble

No explanation for the double asterisk shows? Poor newbies will be confused.

  • Tony ^_^

“Made In Jersey” and “Partners” were already canceled.

“Elementary” and “Vegas” will be canceled…

    Renew everything else!

  • Crown

I’ve watched every episode of CSI NY, It had a good run, but it is time to go. We have CSI, we really don’t need another CSI show.

  • C.S.Strowbridge

    Made In Jersey
    CSI:NY
Blue Bloods – The ratings are just too weak, even with syndication. I know I will be wrong here, but I think CBS is making a mistake.
    The Good Wife
    The Mentalist
    Vegas
    Partners

I was very close to adding in Hawaii Five-0. It can’t be a cheap show to make and it is on CBS second best night, so it is losing a huge amount of viewers.

  • Bad Wolf

CSI:NY is undoubtedly the best candidate for the axe. They would be stupid not to try something else in its timeslot next season, being either an existing or a new show (I’d go with one of the 2 Sunday low performers, preferably The Good Wife). But objectively, nobody, apart from its shrinking procedural-thirsty fanbase, needs YET another season of CSI:NY : neither the network nor the show itself.

The Mentalist and The Good Wife are my big question marks this season. The Good Wife has the critics, the consistency (albeit lower this season) of its ratings and an hypothetical syndication deal… but as I said the ratings are low and abolutely nothing so far can guarantee a 5th season. The Mentalist on the other hand apparently can’t count on a syndication deal, lost its slight ratings edge over The Good Wife (they’re both at 0.65 now) and every future season will likely come with rising production costs. Then there is the ongoing Red John storyline but I seriously doubt CBS will even consider it when it’s time to make a decision : Ghost Whisperer’s series finale was advertised as a season finale when it aired, and as Jennifer Love Hewitt put it, for a show all about unfinished business, the end came rather abruptly, so…

My heart would say : cancel CSI:NY and The Mentalist, keep The Good Wife for a planned final season, possibly on Fridays.
My mind says : cancel CSI:NY once and for all and maybe The Mentalist (for all the reasons above) if a new free slot is needed, keep The Good Wife for a planned final season.
No big difference, so as long as The Good Wife doesn’t go really lower than The Mentalist and stays significantly above CSI:NY, I think it’s a very likely possibility.

  • CenterGravity

    Cancel

    Made In Jersey
    The Good Wife
    Vegas
    Partners

  • BOTR

As much as I love HIMYM, I think it’s time for it to end after this season (or if they feel there isn’t enough time to wrap stuff up, renew it for a 9th and final season with 13 episodes like The King of Queens’ final season six years ago).

As for Two and a Half Men, they should just end it this season and make an official Walden spin-off the next.

  • Blake Williams

I like everything CBS puts out so I did not vote…….People, pleasecheck out Vegas promo tonight on CBS…….give this show a chance………

  • Pepper
