We're into the holiday season for the Renew / Cancel Index and this post before the holiday break gives readers a chance to pick which shows they'd cancel were they a network programmer. You can vote as many times as you'd like, pick as many as you'd like. I've included every show, even canceled ones, so that no one feels left out!

Scheduling note: The Renew / Cancel Index will return with new Indexes and predictions on January 8, 2013 and will then only use the ratings since December 31, 2012 for its calculations for the remainder of the season. Expect prediction changes in the first weeks of 2013.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2012
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2012
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2012
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I like Supernatural, but I think it’s time to go.

  • CrimTV

I agree with the people saying that Supernatural would be a good fit for after TVD. It already has a fan based of 0.8-1.0 weekly which would be a great performance out of TVD and boost the nighty average to 1.0 or above. They also fit well in terms of content.

  • Dan

Keep Arrow, Supernatural, TVD and ANTM (still brings in decent ratings and is cheap).
Nikita will be renewed for syndication.
If Carrie Diaries is a hit, cancel 90210 if it is only so-so, renew for a short final season.
Renew HoD, cheap and it does ok.
Cancel BatB; with the best lead-in it still crumbles. While it does have some competition, HoD is up against the big guns and is almost the same when it comes to ratings. It was a nice idea but didn’t work. Let it go and give them enough time to wrap up the storyline.

  • Dan

I also would pair TVD with Supernatural next year. Nothing so far worked with TVD so maybe Supernatural would work.

  • Richard Steven Hack

I voted for canceling all the “non-genre” shows, i.e., HoD, 90210, GG, EO. Everything else can – and I believe WILL – stay – with the possible exception of BATB which is not doing well.

I think the CW should become the “genre network”, and take over from SyFy. As long as they don’t do as badly as SyFy in show selection, they might survive. They could take on Alphas and it would likely do better on the CW than SyFy, though not by much since apparently plausible sci-fi doesn’t do well compared to fantasy shows. Fantasy shows like Warehouse 13 would probably do well on the CW. I think well-done superhero shows would do well given the relative success of Arrow.

I agree with the idea of having #Supernatural air after #TVD .. bc if that show can’t get good ratings in that timeslot then no show can.
Beauty and the Beast didn’t start off 2 good but if u guys watch the last 2-3 episodes then you’ll see why it deserves another season, its Getting better & better wt every episode.
And the storyline is advancing in such unexpected ways, and its strongest point is def with the epic romance they’ve builded up, the chemistry is Blazing & so Beautiful. & I don’t care if it sounds Cliche, its Epic & unique, esp considering the fact they are 9 episodes in & they’ve yet 2 even Hug.. which is so Rare, esp wt a CW show.. their letting the love story grow & again I must say, its simply Beautiful.
Please give it a fair chance guys, what’s the worse that can happen? You actually liking it?

  • Chosen

Even if I like Beauty & The Beast, I think it will get cancelled. HoD should be back, it’s stable and a safe bet for the network. Nikita will probably back because of syndication. 90210 will have its last season (or not!) Arrow will be renewed (if it stays high) TVD will be renewed (unfortunately, sorry but it goes round & round) Supernatural will be renewed too.
Cult & Carrie Diaries = I don’t know. I think Cult won’t work and CD will be weak but stable.

  • Rachel

90210 doesn’t deserve a “final” season. Cancel that sad, pathetic show. Two of B&tB, TCD and Cult will be axed. My guess is TCD will survive. Another weak year of programming from the CW.

  • Nick

    CW 2013-2014 fantasy schedule:

    8: Hart of Dixie
9: The Carrie Diaries/ Meridian Hills (new)

    8: The Hundred (new)
    9: Supernatural

    8: Arrow
    9: Amazon (new)

    8: The Vampire Diaries
    9: The Selection (new)

    8: Nikita (full final season)
    9: 90210 (10 episode final season)/ America’s Next Top Model

  • JJA

Beauty & The Beast has gotten better, but I don’t think it will be renewed UNLESS it manages to hit a few .8s come the spring.

90210 WILL be back. The only question is if it will get a full season, or a partial season. If HOD gets canceled, expect a FULL season of 90210.

HOD is a real “toss up” right now. We’ll have a better idea when we can compare it to the Carrie Diaries. If Carrie Diaries does well, HOD will have to surpass 90210 in ratings to be renewed.

  • Alexis

Arrow, TVD, SPN are obviously safe.
My bet about the rest: Nikita and HoD get renewed for full seasons, 90210 gets a shortened final season. I can’t see TCD or Cult doing well (although I’m rooting for Cult), so I think The CW will end up cancelling all of its freshman shows this season except Arrow. Which, you know… maybe if they had some good shows for a change, this wouldn’t happen.

  • chris

On the hopes that Cult and The Carrie Diaries are well received by audiences this is what the Cw Schedule should look like. Just b/c the show is on the make believe schedule, doesn’t mean I put it there b/c I particularly like that show or favor it by any means…

Monday: 8 The Vampire Diaries 9 Cult
Tuesday: 8 NEW SHOW 9 Supernatural
Wednesday: 8 Arrow 9 New Show
Thursday: 8 Carrie Diaries 9 New Show
Friday: 8 Hart of Dixie 9 Nikita

  • Amanda

Nothing after VD seems to do well and seeing how CW hardly promotes Beauty and the Beast it’s a shocker it’s still the 4th highest rated series on the network.

Me personally, I could careless about the other shows… as long as Beauty and The Beast remains. If I had to choose, it’ll be 90210.

  • Hadesa

    @mary Eliza

SPN a comedy show? Dont know what you’ve been watching but season 8 has been anything but a comedy show and besides even if it is a comedy show its still the 3rd highest rated show on the network.

Dont like it dont watch, plenty of people clearly do like it.

  • ann

    Cancel Nikita, 90210 and B&B.

  • ewa

Don’t cancel 90210 that is the only thing that I look forward to on Mondays. Ive watch all the 90210 episodes including the original 90210. They should for sure keep that one. Gossip girl not very interested in. Arrow is pretty good. Why would you get rid of shows with high ratings and keep shows with low ones? wow…that really makes sense!!!!

  • James

    @ Nick

I agree with everything on your schedule except I think Embrace would be a better fit after TVD. But, I realize it is a fantasy schedule.

  • Alan

Renewed: TVD, SPN, Arrow, Nikita (please move to summer), 90210 (short final season)
    Toss up: HoD
    Cancelled: Beauty and the Beast

Stop hating on 90210. It will get a final season, and if it doesn’t, that doesn’t mean that Beauty and the Beast is safe.

  • Brandy J

    The Vampire Diaries

    Beauty and the Beast
    Hart of Dixie

  • Ahmed

Beauty and the beast is actually a really good show. More people should give it a chance. It’s really entertaining and exciting. Besides, watching Kristin Kreuk every week is the best blessing ever. All you haters should watch the winter finale episode and spread the word. You’re gonna love it for sure.
