Scheduling note: The Renew / Cancel Index will return with new Indexes and predictions on January 8, 2013 and will then only use the ratings since December 31, 2012 for its calculations for the remainder of the season. Expect prediction changes in the first weeks of 2013.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).
(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

MissP: “Nikita is a french film.(Luc Besson) La femme nikita is just another remake. FYI it was the first film of Nathalie portman’s.”
Utterly wrong. You’re thinking of Léon: The Professional…
You had the original French film with Anne Parillaud, then you had the movie “Point of No Return” with Bridget Fonda, then you had Le Femme Nikita with Peta Wilson, and now you have Nikita.
I never saw the French film but that’s irrelevant since movies are not TV shows. Point of No Return was OK, but not great except for the appearance of Harvey Keitel and a decent performance by Gabriel Byrne; Fonda did not impress me. I only saw a couple episodes of Le Femme Nikita and thought it was well done, but the difference is that Nikita is more of an action show while Le Femme Nikita impressed me as more of an espionage thriller.
In any event, Nikita stands on its own merits. I don’t see any point in comparing one show with an earlier one unless the intent is to do a direct remake a la Charlie’s Angels. Nikita is not a direct remake, it’s a continuation of the CONCEPT of the first show and earlier movies.
As another example, Beauty and the Beast is just a retelling of the CONCEPT, not a remake of the original. So comparing it to the original is not useful.
As for the notion that Amanda not killing Nikita is some kind of bad writing, apparently no one understands psychology here. The whole point was that Amanda wants to make Nikita suffer rather than killing her quickly. So by putting herself at risk to save the guy, Nikita called Amanda’s bluff. This may not be Oscar quality stuff, but it’s hardly bad writing. If I were Amanda, I wouldn’t have allowed that to happen, but that’s just me. I’m far more ruthless than Amanda.
It’s just stupid to suggest that the scene was some sort of “fake” just because we know lead characters are rarely killed off. What part of “suspension of disbelief” don’t people get? You don’t judge a scene by factoring in that lead characters don’t get killed off. That’s a given. Of course the lead character isn’t going to die (except on some shows). So ANY threat they’re put in is going to be resolved by the end of the episode (or subsequent episodes) by some hook or crook. The way it was done in that episode of Nikita was perfectly valid.
Now if they were to REPEAT that sort of scene over and over, then it becomes a writer’s crutch and then it becomes bad writing.
Mi,
Yes I am a teen (19) .. but what difference does that make? Simple fact is, that I’m obsessed With Beauty and the Beast and its the only CW show I consider myself a hard core fan of. Why? I mean yes, some parts are cheesy & it didn’t start off 2 good… but its sersiously gotten soooo much better, and even some bitter TSC fans have started getting hooked 2 the show, despite their efforts not to.
Some say they don’t have chemistry, but you know what? Its realistic. He’s a monster & he acted like a jerk 2 get her 2 stay away 4m him, but she didn’t, & so he gave up that & is slowly start 2 open up 2 her, and its obvious their feelings 4 eachother are getting intense.. anyways long story short, it is a good show if more people gave it a fair chance wtout just assuming its gonna suck… and I love it, obviously, and that’s all that matters, not my age. Also if it gets cancelled I’ll be as pissed off as I was about the Legend of the Seeker cancellation.. which I’m still not completely over.
Give BatB a Fair Chance People!
Cancel B&B! I’m sorry but the show and ‘mediocre both in writing and in acting. The two actors have no chemistry between them, and during the dance he did not feel any emotion.
Wow Mary – if you didn’t feel the emotion from him during that dance then I honestly do feel sad that you are missing out.
It’s all in the eyes and the movements, very very subtle, but extremely powerful…which is exactly the way it’s written to be played, at this stage of their relationship. It’s not an easy thing for an actor to play either, so I give him real kudos for pulling it off.
That’s what’s those who keep commenting on the chemistry are seeing…there is oodles of it going on between the two characters.
You know it always strikes me as funny (as in annoying-funny) that if people don’t like a show or for whatever reason don’t ‘feel’ something, then they automatically start crowing that it’s bad acting.
Agreed that not everyone on every show is brilliant, but just because a viewer doesn’t like something or an actor doesn’t appeal to them personally, doesn’t necessarily mean that actor is bad or the chemistry is not there. We are all entitled to our opinions, but it drives me nuts when I see someone arbitrarily stating their opinion as if it is fact. Nobody is forcing anyone to watch something they don’t like or don’t ‘get’.
Anyway my two cents – yes I agree the writing has not always been perfect, but it is improving, the storyline has been excellent over the last 3 or 4 eps, the chemistry (imo and that of many others!)is off the charts, and it would be a real pity if BATB can’t regain at least a bit of the audience it lost during the early episodes and be given a chance to keep getting better next year. If it doesn’t happen then okay, unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be…but that still wouldn’t automatically mean that the acting and writing was bad!
(And a disclaimer – just so you know, I was NOT a Kristin Kreuk fan at all – far from it – prior to this show, but it’s the story and the chemistry with Jay Ryan that has won me over.)
Sorry for the rant. Needed to get that out before I get all happy for the holidays lol.
Wow! Where are all these Beauty and the Beast fans coming from? Is this a sign of the end of the world? I know Egypt had frogs, locusts, and rivers of blood but this generation has Bieber, Jersey Shore, and long stretchy spandex pants for men to wear.
Cancel 90210 and Hart of Dixie (it’s a lot of shows in this type).
Renew Nikita, move Beauty and The Beast to summer.
And… people don’t complain!
Everyone likes something different.
Beauty and the Beast is already lower than TSC last year with a lead in that get 1.3-1.4,cancell!!!
cancel supernatural. no chemistry between the two characters!
@Jason50
I promise that if the Beast appears in an episode wearing stretchy spandex pants, I’m out!! rofl.
Would have liked to cancel Next Top Model as well. I chose to keep 5 shows:
Vampire Diaries Thursdays
Arrow Wednesdays
Supernatural Tuesdays
Nikita on Fridays
Move Beauty and the Beast to Mondays
Replace the rest with good shows surrounding them.
Where do we go to actually vote in the POLLS ??? !!!
KEEP
Vampire Diaries – favorite
Hart Of Dixie – love this show great cast and amusing without being nasty
Emily Owens, M.D. – this show is funny brand new never really got a chance
Nikita – still like this
Arrow – not sure about this have been watching it
Beauty And The Beast – thought it would be better
CANCEL !!!
Gossip Girl – never watched after 1st episode
90210 – never watched after 1st episode
Supernatural — stopped watching awhile ago
any reality shows — would like more on Friday or later weekdays
I actually think Beauty and the Beast would do better or just as well in an 8:00 time slot, on another day of the week. REALLy would like a season 2 of this show.
i love Beauty and the beast
Arrow and Supernatural can stay.
The rest can go.
@Bad Wolf: I only watched Arrow b/c of Supernatural. It still has some of the highest ratings.
Ho! Ho! Ho! 90210 should go!
The original lasted 10 years. So, for the remake to do 5 season, I feel that is quite good.
CW is going to need available space. I believe 3 spots will be open with the cancellation of 90210.

@Networkman
1. I’m skeptical the CW will only put out three scripted shows this next season. It’s already shown a willingness to put out more and the ratings of the current batch certainly support the idea that three new shows per year are not enough to pull the network back off its own bubble.
2. You want to put Supernatural back in its old Friday night death slot after Nikita? For a final season? That’s cute. Not to mention, wishful thinking. The show is third on the network with no signs of budging from that position. Also, it and Arrow appear to support each other in the ratings, if Arrow’s midseason finale demo was anything to go by.
So, the CW breaking up that pairing next season, let alone to send SPN back to Fridays and not give it a 10th season? Pretty unlikely.
I also see that you are making some huge assumptions in your other scheduling. There’s no guarantee Amazon will make it past the pilot stage (and even if it does, network history indicates the superhero shows do best at 8pm not 9pm). There’s certainly no guarantee Cult will make it to a second season, let alone a full, 22-episode season, so something else is going to have to be after TVD for a good half of the season.
I don’t even like 90210, but it’s silly to assume it’s a goner when over half of the season remains. The network has demonstrated in the past that it weighs spring performance, especially the last month, much more heavily than fall in its calculations for bubble shows. 90210 may or may not make it to a sixth season, but it’s survived newer shows that fell faster in the past.
Also, cancelling 90210 would mean four open slots, not three. ANTM is being moved to summers.
What’s withe all of the BatB hate? I love it! Next to Arrow and TVD it is the one I always watch. Love it. Heart of Dixie lost me season 1. GG lost me many moons ago.
@JP
I have no idea why people hate on BatB. I love it, Arrow and Nikita. I love the chemistry between Vincent & Catherine.
Regarding Beauty & the Beast, I personally felt the pilot was reasonably entertaining, but the next few episodes fell flat. It has, however, gotten better lately, and I look forward to seeing Bridget Reagan and Sendhil Ramamurthy in their upcoming recurring roles.
