We're into the holiday season for the Renew / Cancel Index and this post before the holiday break gives readers a chance to pick which shows they'd cancel were they a network programmer. You can vote as many times as you'd like, pick as many as you'd like. I've included every show, even canceled ones, so that no one feels left out!

Scheduling note: The Renew / Cancel Index will return with new Indexes and predictions on January 8, 2013 and will then only use the ratings since December 31, 2012 for its calculations for the remainder of the season. Expect prediction changes in the first weeks of 2013.

  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Cancel beauty and the beast, its already dead!!

  • lisa

Keep supernatural! Besides that I don’t care

  • Mrc8310

ANTM is getting old can you please cancelled that show it can’t go on forever

  • Mrc8310

@ lisa of course they will renewed Supernatural they did not announces the final season yet

  • Tyler

Those saying that Gossip Girl beat One Tree Hill, check this out. OTH’s special before the episode wasn’t separated from the actual episode like Gossip Girl was. So it’s probably likely that One Tree Hill would’ve had a 0.9.

As much as I WISH Supernatural will end, as I feel its story ran its course 3 years ago and going on endlessly isn’t doing the show any favors… it’s not going anywhere any time soon. It obviously won’t be cancelled for ratings reasons, and it doesn’t seem like the cast wants out or the producers feel it should end.

My guess is Season 10 will be the last, but even that might not be the case, if Ackles and Padalecki decide they want to go on (since that show has an only 2-person cast, and a lot of stunts and action, the workload is so heavy that I can see them wanting to call it quits at that point – especially since Padalecki has a kid now). Anyhow, like Smallville – whenever it goes, it won’t be because of the ratings.

Cancel TVD, Arrow and Supernatural!!! I’m rooting for the underdogs :)

  • Guest

    Also, ANTM has to gOOOooooo….

  • Craig

Please cancel 90210 (should have been gone three years ago). The show has sucked from day one…

  • Martine

TVD, B&B, Arrow should stay..everything else should probably go.

  • Martine

What is this with people comparing Beauty and the beast to The secret circle ? Who cares how well TSC did whenever it was on? Right now B&B is their fourth highest rated show, so better then the middle. Its doing just fine, and needs to be compared to current shows to be sensible. According to some people TSC is doing better then everything except TVD, and if that was the case, it would still be here.

  • Lauren

CH2164, if a show is in the bubble in seasons 1 and 2, that means cancelled? LOL!! One Tree Hill has been in the bubble six years.

  • PV

@Martine.. it’s their fourth show because it has its premiere ratings in its average. If you take out that number, it’s doing about the same as 90210 and HoD. Which is horrible. And it’s far away from syndication. HoD is closer, so… it will be canned.

  • Restless

So ready for the regular Indexes to be back. :/ You can’t have any kind of discussion when people base their reasonings for which shows to keep or can based solely on what shows they personally watch. Personal preference is not debatable.

Newsflash: no one here cares what shows you personally watch or don’t watch, overly emotional posters.

  • Mary Ann

The only CW shows I care about are Beauty and the Beast, Arrow, and The Vampire Diaries. I would let Nikita and Supernatural play out for those that like and watch those shows and cancel the rest.

And now a question. Why is the highest rated show (Vampire Diaries) is also one of the most hated?

  • Bam

B&tb should be canceled like what happened to Emily Owens M.D.

Gossip Girl already ended and I don’t think 90210 deserves the final season like Gossip Girl, but it will probably get renewed depending on how Cult and The Carrie Diaries do. Hart of Dixie and Nikita will both reach syndication so that means automatic renewal. Next year’s schedule should look like this:

Canceled – Emily Owens M.D., B&tb, Gossip Girl and Cult

    Monday (Teen girl nights)
8 pm – The Carrie Diaries (13 episodes)
    9 pm – 90210 (Final season//10 episodes) – Midseason – Confessions of a Backup Dancer (New Show//13 episodes)

    Tuesday (Fantasy night 1)
8 pm – Electropolis (New Show)
    9 pm – Supernatural

    Wednesday (Superhero night)
    8 pm – Arrow
9 pm – Amazon (New Show)

    Thursday (Fantasy night 2)
8 pm – The Vampire Diaries
9 pm – The Selection (New Show) – Midseason (If The Selection fails) – Embrace (New Show//13 episodes)

    Friday (Syndication burn off night)
    8 pm – Nikita (Final season//22 episodes)
9 pm – Hart of Dixie

  • Bam

    ^
8 pm – The Carrie Diaries (Full season)

  • Dave

    Beauty and the Sh*t!

  • Save the Circle.

Keep TVD, Arrow, and Supernatural. Can the rest.
Then bring back The Secret Circle.

Arrow is the only show that I watch on the CW, so I don’t really care what gets canceled as long as it isn’t Arrow.
