We're into the holiday season for the Renew / Cancel Index and this post before the holiday break gives readers a chance to pick which shows they'd cancel were they a network programmer. You can vote as many times as you'd like, pick as many as you'd like. I've included every show, even canceled ones, so that no one feels left out!

Scheduling note: The Renew / Cancel Index will return with new Indexes and predictions on January 8, 2013 and will then only use the ratings since December 31, 2012 for its calculations for the remainder of the season. Expect prediction changes in the first weeks of 2013.

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Secret Circle is done!! If they ever do bring it back, it will be a relaunch with a whole new cast (and/or characters).

Given the sucess of Arrow (which took a character made popular on Smallville and both recast and reimagined him), a relaunch of Secret Circle can work.

  • Anthony C.

    The CW will renew:

    Arrow
    The Vampire Diaries
    Supernatural
    Hart Of Dixie
    The Carrie Diaries
    90210 (10-13 Episode Final Season)
    Nikita (Final Season)

    and hopefully will pickup:

    Sleepy Hollow
    Embrace
    The Tommorrow People
    Sherwood
    Electropolis

  • Eric

I think Beauty and the Beast and 90210 both need to go. Supernatural should be given one or two more seasons. Nikita should stick around for at least one more year. It appears as though Arrow will have a good, long life. I couldn’t care less about the others, but TVD is a safe bet. I’m interested to see what will happen with Hart of Dixie.

  • Martine

The Secret Circle started out very well. But by this time it was doing around .5 or even less. So It was simply moving straight down. If people had wanted to watch it, they would have. The show just didn’t appeal to people, i imagine. Maybe it was the cast. Who knows. Beauty and the Beast didn’t start out tooo huge, but its gaining almost every week bit by bit. It really hardly matters what people “want”. They show is going to stay, i am pretty sure. Together with the weirdly good grab it got from its repeat, its even with Supernatural almost. What is so hard for people to understand? A show that gains is better then one that loses.

@Anthony C. i thought The Selection hopefully will pickup this fall 2013 why this show not on your pick up list for new series in the fall

  • Mrc8310

@ Anthony C. by the way you forgot to put Wonder woman and Robin hood on hopefully pickup list too

  • Anthony C.

    @mrc8310

I left Amazon off because I have no interest in it. Not to say it won’t get picked up but it just doesn’t jump out at me as something worth watching. I’d say Sleepy Hollow, Embrace, The Tomorrow People, Sherwood, Electropolis , and Amazon have the best chances for pickup out of all the developments for the CW. Oh and by the way Sherwood is the robin hood drama.

  • Anthony C.

    @ mrc8310

With the development of the selection/hunger games style reality show being greenlighted I don’t know if they will go foward with the scripted version of the selection or not.

So in a nutshell my CW schedule would look like this:

    CW 2013-2014 Schedule

    MONDAYS:

    8PM- The Carrie Diaries
    9PM- Sherwood (New Series)

    TUESDAYS:

    8PM- Sleepy Hollow (New Series)
    9PM- Supernatural

    WEDNESDAYS:

    8PM- Arrow
9PM- The Tomorrow People (New Series)

    THURSDAYS:

    8PM- The Vampire Diaries
    9PM- Embrace (New Series)

    FRIDAYS:

    8PM- Hart Of Dixie
    9PM- 90210 (10-13 Episode Final Season)/ Nikita (Final Season)

    MIDSEASON:

    Electropolis (New Series)
    Amazon (New Series)

Another thought is The CW could possibly short order 1 or 2 scripted shows for summer which could give us 6 or 7 series pickups altogether for next season. 4 of which I’m positive are slated for fall debuts. I think The possibilites are endless for the CW next season.

  • JJA

Whatever the CW chooses to do, I hope it DOES NOT become a second SyFy network (with a teenage skew).

  • Davis

I think the CW will pick up 5 new scripted series.

    Monday
    The Carrie Diaries
    Meridian Hills (new)

    Tuesday
    The Hundred (new)
    Supernatural

    Wednesday
    Arrow
    Sherwood (new)

    Thursday
    The Vampire Diaries
    Embrace (new)

    Friday
ANTM/Nikita (22eps in midseason and summer)
    Hart of Dixie

    MIDSEASON
    90210 (FINAL)
    The Tomorrow People

I think if the Carrie Diaries (80’s drama) gets renewed, then my gues is Mila Kunis produced Meridian Hills (70’s drama) will get picked up and get the slot behind TCD. It will be quite interesting to see what The CW will do with Tuesdays. Will they put Supernatural at 9, which is what a lot of fantasy schedules have? Or will they leave HoD at 8, and launch a new show behind it? I’m pretty sure that if Cult fails, then CW Tuesday will see at least 1 new show. My guess is that Arrow will keep its timeslot, and either a new series or Supernatural will be behind it. Thursdays will see TVD, followed by a new series. My guess for Friday is ANTM and Nikita will share a timeslot and HoD or 90210 or even B&TB will follow.

    THOUGHT?

  • Dahne

@Martine – I am not one of the crazy “Bring back Secret Circle” people. I n fact I dropped it after 6 episodes, but your stats are way off. Secret Circle did not hit a 0.5 until April and unless you are including repeats, it never went below a 0.5. New episodes at this time were at a 0.8.

I also don’t get where you are saying that Beauty and the Beast ratings are improving. With the exception of one 0.7 and one 0.5, it has been at a pretty steady 0.6 since its third episode. That’s not improving, but treading water.

  • JD

Thankfully a lot of those voting have some common sense – Flop of Dixie really does need to go. It’s been a source of embarrassment for the network ever since it first aired. I’m all for medical dramas, but when casting please choose someone that doesn’t look and sound like an idiot.

  • Marius

Yeah, I’m in the “all of the above” camp myself. If The CW goes on for another 10 years or it went the same route as MyNetwork and became a syndication programming service rather than a network, I would have no preference… I still wouldn’t watch it either way.

  • Gloria

I think the CW will pick up The Selection, Meridian Hills and Sleepy Hollow and cancel.Beauty and the Beast and 90210.

  • James

I think Amazon, Sherwood, The Selection, The Tomorrow People, Sleepy Hollow, Embrace, and Electropolis have the best chances to be picked up. If the CW goes for a teen drama, then I think most people agree with Mila Kunis’s Meridian Hills.

  • Heather

I would keep Hart of Dixie since this season as been soo good! Beauty and the Beast haven’t even been given a good chance yet! 90210, Nakita, Supernatural, and GG should all go! They’re old news and nothing new and exciting about them anymore.

  • Jack

    Whoa
There’s a bunch of Supernatural haters in this site..

  • Tom

Heather, you have such a bad taste! HoD and BB?
    Cancel Supernatural?! Go to Hell!

  • Alexis

We can’t possibly tell which shows it would be good for The CW to pick up, since there’s only a (very) basic premise for them so far. For all we know, the pilot episodes for half of these shows are going to suck hard, even if they sound good on paper. Look at The Selection – it seemed full of potential (coasting on the Hunger Games craze the way TVD is coasting on the Twilight craze), but The CW passed on it – I can only assume the pilot was terrible. They’d have to retool the show and make a better pilot for the show to get picked up.

The one thing that can be said generally is that sci-fi, fantasy and superhero shows are certainly working better for them than teen dramas, so it’s probably wise that they’re mostly ordering scripts in those genres.
