We're into the holiday season for the Renew / Cancel Index and this post before the holiday break gives readers a chance to pick which shows they'd cancel were they a network programmer. You can vote as many times as you'd like, pick as many as you'd like. I've included every show, even canceled ones, so that no one feels left out!

Scheduling note: The Renew / Cancel Index will return with new Indexes and predictions on January 8, 2013 and will then only use the ratings since December 31, 2012 for its calculations for the remainder of the season. Expect prediction changes in the first weeks of 2013.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2012
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2012
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2012
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    Ben and Kate

Of course, the Mob Doctor is already canceled so that doesn’t count.

  • Jared K

Honestly, I think FOX needs to let all of these shows die, with the exception of Animation Domination, New Girl, Bones and Raising Hope (for syndication purposes). The network has become a certified disaster area this fall when it comes to scripted programming. But obviously Glee isn’t going anywhere, so cancel The Cleveland Show, Ben and Kate (a show I like, but its ratings suck), and the rest, then pray that The Following is the godsend that all the network execs seem to think it is.

  • One

New Girl, Mindy Project, Glee, Mob Doctor.

  • Kyle

I would definitely cancel the whole network. There is nothing on that I would watch. The scripted shows are crap and the reality shows suck. American Idol and X Factor just needs to go.

  • s0303

the only thing i watched on fox was the mob doctor :) though i am planning out checking out the following.

  • Jared

The real question is what should FOX renew. Fox has really tanked this season.

  • Renee

I would just cancel all shows and it can be a sports network. Fox is the worst network for cancelling decent shows to air crap.

  • Lucas Melo

FOX have almost nothing of good television

  • Justin

Cancel: Ben & Kate and Raising Hope

  • Stephen

MD & Fringe already cancelled so I would include Ben & Kate and the Mindy Project.

Neither comedy is performing well and both are freshman shows so I wouldn’t keep either if it was up to me.

Raising Hope has syndication on its side plus hasn’t been doing badly given its slot and leading off the night.

Everything else is either already renewed or is doing decently enough to get renewed so I wouldn’t cancel anything else at this time.

  • David

Frankly, I would cancel American Idol/X-Factor before even touching anything else, just to make room for three more hours of scripted shows. Then I would cancel Mob Doctor, Cleveland Show, and Bob’s Burgers.

  • reidjr

While Idol/Factor might not do great however to cancel both and just depend on sitcoms etc would be very risky.

  • Chris

I would cancel the whole network…

  • Crown

  • Ha

Why don’t they list American Idol and X factor? These two shows should be cancelled first.

  • Richard Steven Hack

Even though it’s already “canceled”, i.e., on its last season, I voted for Fringe. This season has sucked rocks even worse than last season, with last Friday’s episode taking the top marks for suck due to the stupid animation.

Otherwise I don’t watch anything on Fox this season so you could cancel the whole lineup as far as I’m concerned. :-)

What Fox should do for 2013-2014:

    8: Bones
9: Gun Machine (new)/ Untitled Wyman/Abrams project (new)
    8: Raising Hope
8:30: The Goodwin Games/ Live From Our Living Room (new)
    9: New Girl
    9:30: Wendy & Peter (new)

    8:  X Factor/ Idol

    8: The X Factor/ Idol
    9: Kitchen Nightmares/ The Following

    8: Glee (full final season)
    9: Touch

    8: Fox Sports Saturday

    7: The OT/ Cops
    7:30: The OT/ Bob’s Burgers
    8: The Simpsons
    8:30: Bob’s Burgers/ Murder Police (new)
    9: Family Guy
    9:30: American Dad

  • Tom

I’d cancel B&K and Mindy, and probably Touch on the drama side (may need for Delayed Start Spackle in Fall though).
I’d switch Tuesdays to Glee into New Girl + new comedy, and turn Fridays at 8 into Raising Hope + new comedy (or Goodwin Games if it somehow sticks).

I’d also spend a boatload on drama development.

  • sara

    Cancel the whole programming department.

  • psychic

Fringe is done. I officially don’t give a crap about Fox now. They have literally nothing else I watch, except for Bones, and only when I’m willing to settle for mediocrity.
Maybe when they create another science fiction show, slap it in the FNDS, and wait for it to die, I’ll watch it while it lasts.
