We're into the holiday season for the Renew / Cancel Index and this post before the holiday break gives readers a chance to pick which shows they'd cancel were they a network programmer. You can vote as many times as you'd like, pick as many as you'd like. I've included every show, even canceled ones, so that no one feels left out!

Scheduling note: The Renew / Cancel Index will return with new Indexes and predictions on January 8, 2013 and will then only use the ratings since December 31, 2012 for its calculations for the remainder of the season. Expect prediction changes in the first weeks of 2013.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2012
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2012
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2012
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I don’t watch anything on Fox yet, waiting for The Following. Hopefully it won’t be cancelled like the other shows on Fox I followed like Alcatraz that was an awesome show.

  • The deal

Fringe is the best dramtic show on TV period. It is another Star Trek which received bad ratings and lives forever in reruns and movies. I goto
to Fox to watch 4 shows, New Girl, So You think…, American I, Fringe. They are making a BIG mistake cancelling Fringe.

  • animal

Fox is the only network worth watching, everything is good, Raising Hope is one of the best shows on tv!

  • Ted

Why is American Idol not on here? That’s a show I would have cancelled a long time ago.

  • hello

I would cancel Simpsons and Fringe because it is time for them to end, and i cancelled the rest because they suck

  • Anthony

What a shame, Ben and Kate looks like the next great show to be cancelled. But we’re living in a time where Jersey Shore and the Kardashians pull in record ratings. Welcome to Obama’s America — a land of mindless zombies. Mob Doctor really isn’t that bad at all either. In fact, it’s very good.

  • weirdfeline.tumblr.com

The only show I care about is Bob’s Burgers and that has already been renewed.

Jared, I think that you’re missing the point here. The guys asked us what we would cancel IF WE WERE THAT NETWORK’S PROGRAMMER. When I voted to cancel “Ben And Kate,” it was not due to any hatred for the program, its producers, its cast, or even the craft services crew. It was because it has crappy ratings that are not likely to improve. Cancellation clears the scheduling board for pilots that, Rupert willing, are better creatively and commercially than the series that they replace. Does it always work that way? Hell, no. But that’s why you have to be an optimist to work in network programming.

Unless DB is trolling us all on twitter (Definitely a possibility), Bones has been renewed for season 9

  • Alexis

Santa, can I have a cancelled Glee for Christmas this year?

    No?

    Crap.

  • Paul

    Glee

  • Longshanks

The one and only show that I watch on FOX is Fringe, and since it’s ending soon,I couldn’t care less if they cancelled all of the other shows.

  • LoriB196

Santa, can I have a renewed Glee for Christmas?

    Yes?

    Thank you!!!

    : )

  • Mary Ann

So how many haters of “The Mob Doctor” actually watched the show and gave it a chance? It is the only show on FOX that I watch, and it is very very good — the first seven episode arc went in directions I never saw coming, and became very layered and complex. Best mob show since “Wiseguy.” I know it is too late to save it, but anyone who is on the fence at all should watch it and then develop an opinion.

  • Chantal

Cancel Glee and American Idol !

  • Sarah

“Unless DB is trolling us all on twitter (Definitely a possibility), Bones has been renewed for season 9″

Yeah, I saw his tweet a couple days ago. And LOL at his trolling. He does do that a lot, and more often than not it drives me crazy. lol

  • Oliver

Renew everything airing that isn’t already cancelled (Mob Doctor, Fringe, The Cleveland Show even though they haven’t yet formally announced it). Cancel Touch and The Goodwin Games (they already shortened its order). The success or failure of The Following won’t change Fox’s Fall schedule.

Give Mindy and B&K 13 episode orders, bench B&K until mid-season. Keep Tuesdays intact over summer so they can keep promoting their comedy block.

Reduce X Factor to 2 hours and use the extra hour to launch an extra new drama after Glee. Fox should target phasing out X Factor.

I know Ben & Kate’s future is not looking too good at the moment, but I really hope that the Fox executives have some faith in it and give it time to grow. It has a truly funny cast that I would love to see more of. New Girl and Raising Hope should also stay, even though I’m not enjoying either one quite as much as I used to.
