UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – December 18, 2012 – NBC has finished #2 for the primetime week of December 10-16 in adults 18-49 with a 15 percent increase over its year-ago rating (2.3 vs. 2.0), according to “live plus same day” viewing data from Nielsen Media Research. NBC was also up versus the year-ago week in all other key ratings categories, including a gain of 17 percent in total viewers (7.3 million vs. 6.2 million).

For the season to date, NBC ranks #1 with a 24 percent increase over its year-ago 18-49 average (with a 3.1 average rating versus last year’s 2.5), to move from #4 at this point last season to #1 this season. It’s the first time in nine years NBC has ranked #1 at this point in the season.

In total viewers, NBC is up versus one year ago by 20 percent (8.8 million vs. 7.4 million). NBC is ahead of its year-ago season average by double-digit percentages in every key ratings category.

NBC delivered three of the week’s top nine primetime programs on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49. “Sunday Night Football” ranked #1 for the week in adults 18-49, Monday’s “The Voice” tied for #6 and Tuesday’s “Voice” finished #9 (rankings exclude sports pre- and post-game shows).

Sunday Night Football” was the #1 primetime show of the week on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-34,18-49 and 25-54, total viewers, households, all key adult-male demos, women 18-34 and teens 12-17.

Sunday Night Football” has been the #1 primetime show of the week in adults 18-49 during all 15 weeks of the NFL season to date and has been #1 in total viewers for 13 of 15 weeks and the last seven in a row.

For the season to date, NBC’s schedule features four of primetime's top nine programs on the broadcast nets ("Sunday Night Football," #1; Monday’s "The Voice," #4; "Revolution” #5; and Tuesday’s "The Voice,” tied for #8). NBC’s schedule features the #1 show overall (“SNF”), the #1 drama on the broadcast networks and #1 new show (“Revolution”), the #1 new comedy (“Go On”) and #1 Friday series (“Grimm”) (sports pre- and post-game shows are excluded from these rankings).

Primetime averages for the week of December 10-16 in adults 18-49 are: CBS, 3.1/9; NBC, 2.3/7; Fox, 1.6/4; ABC, 1.5/4; and CW, 0.6/2. In overall total viewers, the weekly averages were: CBS, 11.9 million; NBC, 7.3 million; Fox, 5.1 million; ABC, 4.4 million; and CW, 1.7 million.

Season to date averages through eight weeks are: NBC, 3.1/9; CBS, 2.9/8; ABC, 2.5/7; Fox, 2.4/7; and CW, 0.8/2. In overall total viewers, the season averages are: CBS, 11.8 million; NBC, 8.8 million; ABC, 8.7 million; Fox, 6.7 million; and CW, 1.9 million.

NBC highlights for the week of December 10-16

Monday: "The Voice" (3.8 rating, 10 share in adults 18-49, 12.3 million viewers overall) tied as the #1 entertainment telecast of the night in 18-49 and was #1 outright in total viewers, delivering the biggest total-viewer result for a Monday "Voice" in six weeks (since October 29).

Also on Monday, the premiere of "Take It All" (2.2/5 in 18-49, 7.1 million viewers overall) ranked #2 in the time period among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49, total viewers and all other key ratings categories. And at 10:01 p.m. ET, “Michael Bublé: Home for the Holidays" (1.4/4 in 18-49, 5.7 million viewers overall) also ranked #2 among ABC, CBS and NBC in the hour in all key categories.

Tuesday: NBC ranked #1 Tuesday night in 18-49, as "The Voice" (3.6/10 in 18-49, 11.5 million viewers overall) scored the night's top rating and built by 3 percent on the prior week's 3.5; night two of "Take It All" (2.2/6 in 18-49, 7.2 million viewers overall) matched Monday's premiere rating and grew by 1 percent in total viewers; and "Parenthood" (2.0/6 in 18-49, 5.7 million in total viewers) dominated its hour in 18-49 with its biggest margin to date over CBS’s “Vegas” (33 percent, 2.0 vs. 1.5). “Parenthood” matched its highest 18-49 rating since November 29, 2011 and delivered its biggest overall audience since that same date.

Wednesday: “Whitney” (1.4/4 in 18-49, 3.8 million viewers overall) matched its season high in adult 18-49 rating, with gains of 8 percent versus its prior telecast and 27 percent versus the episode before that. "Whitney" was up 17 percent in 18-49 rating versus NBC's comedy average in the time period this season prior to "WhiWhitnettney" (1.2).

Thursday: Night four of “Take It All” (1.2/3 in 18-49, 3.9 million viewers overall) grew versus the prior night by 9 percent in adults 18-49 (with a 1.2 rating vs. a 1.1) and 16 percent in total viewers (3.9 million vs. 3.4 million).

Friday: "Dateline NBC" (2.0/6 in 18-49, 6.8 million viewers overall) led the 10 p.m. ET hour in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and all other key demographics. “Dateline” earned the #1 rating of the night in adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 (2.5) reported its highest Friday 18-49, 25-54 and total-viewer results since September 23, 2011.

Saturday: With three consecutive encores, "Chicago Fire" grew by 75 percent in 18-49 rating and 26 percent in total viewers from its 8 p.m. ET rebroadcast (0.4/1 in 18-49, 2.4 million viewers overall) to its 10 p.m. encore (0.7/2 in 18-49, 3.0 million viewers overall).

Sunday: This week’s 49ers-Patriots “Sunday Night Football” (8.7/22 in 18-49, 23.2 million viewers overall, 13.9/22 in households) scored the highest 18-49 rating for any Week 15 game in “SNF’s” seven seasons on the NBC schedule. The game’s average audience of 23.2 million is up 40 percent versus the same night last year and is the second biggest “SNF” result of the season behind only the opening weekend’s 27.6 million for Steelers-Broncos on September 9.
