We're into the holiday season for the Renew / Cancel Index and this post before the holiday break gives readers a chance to pick which shows they'd cancel were they a network programmer. You can vote as many times as you'd like, pick as many as you'd like. I've included every show, even canceled ones, so that no one feels left out!

Scheduling note: The Renew / Cancel Index will return with new Indexes and predictions on January 8, 2013 and will then only use the ratings since December 31, 2012 for its calculations for the remainder of the season. Expect prediction changes in the first weeks of 2013.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2012
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2012
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2012
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2012
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2012

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I looked at the list and… well, I don’t watch any of those shows.

  • Adam

Indeed, it’s really weird that NBC is not airing TNN repeats. I’d say “they don’t have room for it” but that’s delusional. They found a spot for every other comedy. Why not for TNN? I’m pretty sure Murphy now regrets not selling the show to ABC or FOX (both channels wanted it, just like NBC). I love the show and I think ratings are great compared to others, but NBC is actually ignoring it. On the other hand, you see Go On pimped everywhere. I guess they’re also delusional for Perry…

  • Fred

Just watched NBC’s Deception ON DEMAND although it doesn’t debut on NBC until early next month. Does anybody think this will help the ratings? It won’t have The Voice as a lead in like Revolution.
I won’t reveal my thoughts about the pilot until after it airs. Don’t want to ruin it for anybody.

  • Martine

Get rid of Guys With Kids, please!

  • Martine

@ Mary ! You think just because people here don’t love the show its “obviously” related to homophobia? How about people here just don’t happen to like the show. And yes, you are calling people homophobes. Thats exactly what it means when you say “homophobia is involved”. Actually free thinking is involved. The show isn’t exactly amazing.

  • Man About It

I take it Goon (c) Seth McFarlane, and The New Normal will be moved to Thursday if they return next season?

Cancel All of them except Grimm .

  • RG-X

Just saw the New Years Day NBC primetime schedule – 2 hours of Betty White’s Off Their Rockers THEN an ALL-NEW Parenthood???!!!

Really NBC?? – Parenthood is on an up swing and you are putting a NEW episode after 2 hours of Betty White???? AM I missing something here????!!!!!

Lame!!!!! – Sometimes I think NBC is trying to ruin Parenthoods survival chances!

  • Mary 1

No Martine, I don’t think people who don’t like this show are guilty of homophobia. But this is not a ‘do you like the show poll.’ This is not an ‘is the show amazing poll.’ It’s a ‘which show should be cancelled’ poll and anyone with any sense who follows blogs like this knows that shows are cancelled for ratings. And when the show that leads the poll is not getting the lowest rating, not the second lowest, the third lowest, the fourth lowest, the fifth lowest, the sixth lowest etc. then there’s other reasons why it leads the poll.

  • sabrina

The New Normal it is a horrible show, Animal practice, Guys with kids, Whitney

  • Oliver

It’s likely for scheduling reasons, in order to prevent Smash from running into June.

There’s absolutely no chance of them cancelling Parenthood.

  • steve

No way NBC cancels The New Normal. It’s the best new show on TV.

I bet NBC wishes it still had Harry’s Law! LOL

  • Eric

Whitney and Guys With Kids both need to go. L&O:SVU has maybe run its course as well. The rest can stay, either because they are doing reasonably well (Grimm, Go On) or because I love them (Parks & Rec, The New Normal).

  • Eddie

Parenthood is sooo good. It looks like they are definitely renewing it. Best cast on TV right now. Cant wait for the next new episode.

  • pirate1303

1600 should not be allowed back on in Jan-dumbest show ever-

Whoever greenlighted this should be fired-

  • Coolio Jackson

Unlikely that Revolution will get cancelled…the DVR+ numbers released to day show it as a big gainer and a hit. The voting needs to be updated to remove those already gone or going (AP, 30Rock, Office)

  • NE1

I would feed him 30 Rock so we don’t have to suffer through the show’s funeral. Just yank it and put the rest of the eps on DVD.

  • Alli

    Keep Chicago Fire and Grimm.
