“A Special Edition of 20/20: The Year with Katie Couric” (9:30-11:00 p.m.)

Despite coming out of repeat programming at 9:30 p.m. against the final half-hour of Fox’s 2-hour Wednesday finale of “The X Factor” and NBC’s 2-hour “Miss Universe Pageant,” “A Special Edition of 20/20: The Year with Katie Couric” was up over its year-ago telecast (on 12/15/11) in both Adults 18-49 (+7% – 1.6/5 vs. 1.5/4) and Adults 25-54 (+5% – 2.1/5 vs. 2.0/5). 

 

  • Building its numbers at 10:00 p.m., “The Year with Katie Couric” earned second place from 10:00-11:00 p.m. with Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54, while finishing No. 1 among key Women (W18-49/W25-54).

 

  • Versus the most recent installment of “A Special Edition of 20/20” with Katie Couric (1.3/4 and 1.8/5 on 10/26/12), “The Year with Katie Couric” scored strong double-digit increases in Adults 18-49 (+23%) and Adults 25-54 (+17%).

 

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 46% currently, from 43% at the same point in 2011. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
