I agree with the guy who mentioned Y&R getting better and having that 2005 feel to it. Y&R has gone back to the basics recently and its becoming a lot more watchable. I was more critical about Y&R being a huge bore more than anybody and I think it has improved. It’s not at that GH turn around level yet but I think it’s near.
You should never complain about newcomers b/c newcomers end up being the future of soaps. You just have to adjust to them. I actually think what Y&R did was smart they have a lot of actors and need to build for the future if they’re going to have a future. They can’t rely on Victor Newman 10 years from now. Come on now you guys know better than that.
My only complaint and this was my complaint even when the soap was back in its heyday back in the 90s and early 2000s was the business storylines but that’s Y&R identity as well. Sometimes they can be good but for the most part they’re a bore. I actually like the storyline that Jack is involved in and Niel now but don’t put Sharon back in the business she had an interesting character these past few months.
B&B is so bad. I don’t see how people like it. I’ve never given up a soap, but I did about 2 weeks ago. The triangle, the incest stories (sorry kissing your brother-in-law and wanting to date your step-sister is NASTY). The flashbacks and then you have to go into CBS.com to watch the real show. It is just stupid. Rick is a slim and Hope and Carolyn are airheads. Now Hope is going to be strong – no in between story – she just woke up strong. Please. We have an intervention on Y&R and now we get one on B&B. I still read the blogs, because it is so funny. I love Hope and she is the greatest and then someone will write in I love Steffy, she is so much better than Hope.
Y&R is boring, but I love Jack and Adam together. I think they are better rivals than Victor and Jack. They are fenemies, which I love. I hate when people are enemies all the time (example Hope and Steffy).
GH is great – love my veterans. Love Ellie – smart women who is not going to let a man walk all over her.
I have a hard time believing these ratings. I think some people who vote, just don’t want their soaps to be off the air, but B&B needs to get better or get cancelled.
I think The Bold and The Beautiful should get cancelled because they keep repest the same storyline over and over again I am sick and tied of the show the soon they cancelled the sow the better
I agree Y&R sucks has not been the same sense 2005 what happen to the show
I think Y&R is getting better, its not as good as GH but its getting better.
B&B does repeat the same storylines but its very consistent show you know what you’re going to get from it.
Psycho Hope is back next week on B&B I can’t wait.

DOOL has been totally on fire and deserves top of the line ratings already! I cannot get enought! The Kristen storyline is truly becoming extremely compelling as is the Will/Sonny/Gabi/Nick plot. Go Days!!!
I am waiting to hear of the next cancellation. I think DOOL will be next and rightfully so. The show stinks and has stayed poor for years. I want it to get better, but it simply is not going too. Y&R it is only a matter of time for you, too. The new writers have done a few things that made me clap, like firing some really poor characters, if you can even call them that….But other than that….the writing is still awful. Daytime s…s and no one is doing anything to fix it. Too many p..s poor years of proof now. Upsets me so. I would love to support the soaps here, but what is the point when no one behind the scenes is investing s..t in them!
Ooooo…now Chloe is back in Salem on DOOL!!! This is gonna’ upset the world for Daniel and Jennifer! Things are rockin’ in Salem! Go Days…the best soap on tv by far!
Kelby you clearly don’t know what’s been going on here lately, the soaps are on the way back. I think you’ve seen the last cancellation for a while with AMC and OLTL last year a couple of years ago. Sony will find a way to cheapen the license fee enough for NBC to renew it at the last hour of negotiations again.
Thanks to whoever posted that vid, can’t wait to watch PSYCHO HOPE return on The Bold and the Beautiful next week.
So DOOL brings back Chloe and I hear Nancy later, but cannot be bothered to write a decent exit storyline for Bo?! Don’t get me wrong I like both characters, and were sorry to see them go, but I just don’t see them adding enough dramatic value to boost ratings. The much hyped return of Kristen, which had so much potential, has been squandered by the painfully slow plotlines. There are a mumber of characters that are completely underused-Hope, Billie, Kate, Lucas- wouldn’t it make sense to weave them into the story instead? The Jennifer/Daniel storyline is a bust, bringing Chloe back will not add sparkle to something many are already tired of.
It’s official guys Agnes Nixon confirms that All My Children and One Life to Live are coming back. Expect Prospect Park within the next week or two to officially put out a press release on it.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Dangerous Joe. That’s great news and a stong ‘told-you-so’ to TPTB, that the genre is enjoyed by many when done right. Although I would bring back OLTL first (I would love to see Vicky and Dorian again) and see how it goes before spending more money on resurrecting AMC. AMC was completely unwatchable in it’s last 2 years-even I stopped watching. What are the reperussions for GH, though?
@lampshade
Yeah it really is a big ‘told-you-so’ TPTB, I hate it that ABC had to learn the hard way but I also think the genre itself is better for having those cancellations happen when they did. This genre was so dead during the time of these cancellations happened. What always kept me optimistic about the genre living on was what happened a few months after these cancellations and that was when B&B and OLTL started to raise its ratings during the summer and fall of that year. Then when the replacements started failing or not doing The View numbers it made me think about how much of a mistake they made.
I think seeing the mistake gave the networks a chance to get a glimpse of their future which was not going to be good at all if all of the soaps disappeared. Sometimes you just see how great something was when its actually gone. This might’ve been the best decision made in a long time in broadcast television. I really think if GH didn’t have the surge it did in the ratings this year there’s no way these two soaps are coming back or this genre staying alive. I really think the genre itself died in 2007 its just been living on life-support these past few years and now a miracle has happened and its alive again.
Just like some of the other people were saying before I think 2013 is the new beginning of the rejuvenation of the genre. The genre has been reborn now. Like they say all great things comeback to life.
A lot of stuff still hasn’t been answered yet but I think GH stays either way. I’m still not sure if the soaps themselves are coming back to ABC in the future or not. I get the feeling that if ABC only has to pay a license fee to air them instead of a production fee then they will air them again as 30 minute soaps. I know there was a cable deal in place with AMC and there was talks with ION or something like that so at least on the television side they’ll be airing somewhere.
Not thrilled with any of the soaps right now, but at least I’m hanging in there with GH. There are supposed to be some good vet returns in the coming weeks. Took DAYS off my DVR when Melanie left. I loved her and Chad. There is not ONE storyline I’m invested in, why did they have to kill Jack – AGAIN?!! They should have never had Jack&Jennifer reunite. She could still get with Dr. “Tan” (which I would FF through) and Jack could deal with his PTSD, with Jen’s help. Bored to tears by ring-around-the-rosie with Sami and her three suitors (actually Lucas has been left out in the cold with nothing to do! I love him FAR more than I do any of the other characters that are currently “front-burner”). A couple of the storylines not only bore me, they offend me! Now Chloe is back – I like her, but unless she’s going to reunite with Brady, I’m not interested.
@ Mike, you nailed it. Y&R was awesome, but in the last 2-3 years, it has become unbearable. Too bad Maria Arena Bell did not have the story telling savvy of Bill Bell. Now we’re stuck with Jill Phelps, the worst possible choice to restore Y&R to it’s glory days.
Nevertheless, GH is entertaining and more watchable than every other soap at the moment. Not surprised that their numbers keep increasing.
So Agnes Nixon made a statement. Big freaking deal. She did that also the first time Prospect Park tried to bring back AMC and OLTL back in 2011.
I’m not even sure Prospect Park will succeed in bringing back AMC and OLTL to begin with. And even if it does, I don’t see the financial interest for ABC to cancel The Chew or Katie to put two expensive soaps that it cancelled in the first place.
I don’t think ABC has any regret at all for cancelling AMC or OLTL. This is all wishful thinking on the part of soap fans as far as I’m concerned.
Yes Agnes does give confirmation that PP is working on it again. But there are still so many questions and still nothing on a WGA deal or any confirmation on even a writer.
Deadline, TV Line, DC, and Soaps Uncensored have told what they know through their “confidential sources” but now Soap Central has stuff from the next issue of Soap Opera Digest than is completely different from what has been reported so far.
They are saying AMC and OLTL will share the same sets, and one will run for 6 weeks then go off and the other will run for 6 weeks and then back to the other. AMC will be the first. Which kinds of tells us maybe why they are trying to sign AMC actors first this time.
They also allude to the fact that the shows will be very bare boned, nothing like what they had originally planned last year.
AMC is the only show of the 2 I am interested in. There is also a rumor they are working on getting a deal with Hulu to air them which means a subscription fee possibly to Hulu Plus to get all of the content. Not sure I am interested in that as I tried Hulu Plus once and didn’t like it.
Maybe since they only have a few weeks to get something into works fully before ABC takes back the rights again, we will finally get somethign solid from Prospect Park. So far to me they haven’t changed from the way they did things last year. STill nothing official from them only from sources close to the production.
Even AGnes Nixon and many of the actors made statements last time.
@lampshade, I don’t think they can do one without the other this time. Again it is just another of those rumor things, but I think the extension meant they had to have something with both in production or the rights go back to ABC.
As far as it being a told you so to ABC, I won’t even go there because sometimes in life we have to eat crow. If Prospect Park does this poorly and they fail yet again then ABC will be the ones giving the big I told you so.
If Prospect Park fails to get this in the works, it is going to greatly hinder any one from even wanting to try anything again. And esp. if it fails, I doubt anyone will even try a next time.
It is just like with the DVD thing on the Proctor & Gamble soaps. I had so hope that would work out and show P&G that people really wanted DVDs of the shows. But now the sales were not that great, and the company doing them isn’t going to issue anymore. I am sure now P&G will just put them back in the archives and they will stay there lost and forgotten.
The ones issued were not the greatest episodes but I bought them all and encouraged others to do so. But so many complained about the episodes chosen but so many issues had to be overcome with the older episodes. But people were not patient. Now we will probably never get them.
As far as AMC and OLTL it is definitely in the best interest of the shows if Prospect Park don’t have all their ducks in a row they need to stop before they even get started.
