Interesting about PP that so far no word on any OLTL actors and last time, they had about 15 of the cast signed on for the reboot. However, heavy hitter Debbi Morgan just signed onto AMC reboot. But, honestly, if they can’t get Susan Lucci, they should just scrap the plan. even if they get her part-time or something. Two more must haves are Michael E. Knight and Walt Wiley in my book. No point in having an AMC without those tentpole characters.

Lindsey Hartley must just sit around and wait for them to call her. She was a reason to NOT watch AMC, so it’s unfortunate she will be in the reboot. And, AMC was very bad until the last 6 months, and then they were rocking it out.

OLTL was the best show on the air when it got cancelled. Here’s hoping they keep the cast to about 15 people, since 30 minutes and less episodes per year. I am sure that will be so much easier to write for. I am also hoping they do it in like 10 week segments with a 3 week break in between, leaving the show in a big cliffhanger each time.

OLTL was my favorite for the last decade or so. As excited I was about PP’s initial attempt to keep the shows alive, now I think they should let sleeping dogs lie. We’re not going to get back the same show of excellence OLTL was when it ended. I’m now used to OLTL being gone. I don’t want to see a disappointing revival of a once great show. I like the OLTL characters on GH and am fine with visits from Llanview residents. They could do so much with this aspect.

When they announced JFP was taking over Y&R, I knew then it was only a matter of time Y&R became unwatchable. I was able to tune in over the Holidays and agree that this show gives boring a whole new definition. I would take MAB’s version of Y&R over this debacle. At least last summer when I last watched Y&R regularly, I wanted to tune in the next day.

For me, Y&R is no longer worth the 37 minutes. I can do better things with my time. The ratings are dropping each week. Horrible deja vu of how the mighty and wonderful AMC became unwatchable to the point of cancellation.

I hope they wake up quickly and do something to make this show entertaining again. I enjoyed one of the alternative judge shows much better. Much better drama than Y&R. So sad…

I’m going to be more optimistic than you Debby Downers are, I think its really important for both shows to just be on the air. Even though the characters can make the show you watch the show b/c its good right? I’m being honest there’s not a soap on TV right now that I’m watching for its characters. Like with GH I have characters I like to watch on there but I could care less if they’re not in the episode that day.

Susan Lucci isn’t going to be around forever so the show can’t rely on her to always be around. They have to adapt and viewers have to learn how to adapt to new characters.

Somebody mentioned Lindsay Hartley and that’s actually the person on AMC that should become the future leading character on the show. She has experience leading a soap before on Passions. Her character on AMC wasn’t written well, they need to make her character a hell of a lot better than that.

When it comes to OLTL there’s no Ron C. or Frankie V. to hold that ship down but we shouldn’t be so quick to judge it being a bad show. It’s probably not going to be as good but as long as its watchable that’s all that should matter. OLTL more than AMC could adapt quicker with newer characters throughout its run.

I think both shows will definitely be okay, lets not forget the reason why they got so bad in the first place was b/c of Brian Frons and his excellence in helping kill soaps.

DOOL-wouldn’t be surprised if the total viewers go under 2million.its really hard to make ej/sami/rafe boring but the current writers have.who cares how many times nicole says i’m sorry.brady/kristen/john/marlena is pathetic.three old geezers and brady who bronzed his body.the reflection when he takes his shirt off is blinding.jennifer/daniel are so dull.the glory days definetly have past.stefano you got the right idea, just phone it in.

    HOW TO SAVE Y & R:
To all of those who are upset about Y/R’s future: Julie Chen at the Talk is the most powerful woman in daytime and The Talks success depends on its lead in. If Y/R drips to a 2.0 B/B has always had ratings exactly 1 point lower than Y/R and The Talk always comes in a half a point less than what B/B gets. She can actually do something about it since she is married to the head of CBS.

Folks I hated what Brian Frons did to soaps as much as the next person. But to say that soaps were bad totally due to him is a big stretch of the imagination.

Guiding Light, Passions, and As The World Turns were all equally as bad and he had nothing to do with them.

The other shows on now all have big problems and most of them he has never had anything to do with. Or when he was there with the networks they were on they were doing okay.

If Prospect Park doesn’t get a deal with WGA they have said they will use fi-core writers. Many of the fi-core writers that are available to them had troubles on other shows they wrote for too.

Just like Jean Passanante who has worked under Frons and not under him. She was just as much of a bad writer under him as she was not under him. She was terrible at As The World Turns. I don’t think she is fi-core, but someone said she had recently became friends on Facebook with the new AMC producer.

Same for Dena Higley, she was equally bad at OLTL as she was at Days. Same with David Kriezman. He was the one who helped ruin Guiding Light toward the end, and then was hired by AMC. He was bad even before he worked under Frons.

To me most of the fi-core writers available to them are bad. The ones who are fi-core and talented already have jobs on shows where they are happy.

They really need the deal with the WGA to give them more options for writers, but to me if they just recycle a writer who has already proven they don’t know how to write a good soap opera then I don’t think it will matter at all if Frons is involved or not.

The writing makes a soap opera. If the stories aren’t good it doesn’t matter who you put on the screen, people might tune in for curiosity at first but they only stick around if the story is good.

Sorry to all the YR fans, but JFP is a train wreck. What you will get are glimpses and moments of a good show. She is an event driven producer. Those events will be awesome at first, but overall, the show will not be good and will be centered around a few of her favorite people (expect Steve Burton to hog an amazing amount of airtime), and when she runs out of events to pull off, it will show all the cracks and flaws with the show she has created. You can expect less and less airtime for the vets that the show has been built around. She has no regard for anyone over 50.

    @ Tough Preds
I am sorry, but in my opinion, Lindsey Hartley, nor her character, are capable of leading AMC. If they want generation next, get Alicia Minshew and Rebecca Budig on board. They are characters the fans loves, and they are actresses that pack a punch. I will agree that her character was ill conceived and not well written. And, while Susan Lucci won’t be around for ever, if PP wants to get people to tune in, they need to get her on board. She is AMC to millions of fans. They would also be smart to get Julia Barr on board. Again, even if they are there for 6 months to get the show started, they need some of the magical characters and actors/actresses that gave the fans years of entertainment. Same with OLTL and Erika Slezak and Robin Strasser. To reboot without Erika would be a disaster. I do hope they send John McBain to PP’s OLTL reboot. Todd and Starr need to stay on GH, but John is fringey, and Sam could be such a hot match with AJ.

I had thought that Days would have been boring these last 2 weeks(except for the annual Horton tree decorating, which I look forward to every
year), but I was pleasantly surprised. Ileen Davidson as Kristen is looking like she is having fun playing this character, as if to say to Y and R look what I can do, look at what you gave up. Father Eric is interesting because of what happened to him in Africa, whatever that was we still do not know the whole story behind that situation. Ileen Davidson is such a great actress. The actor playing Father Eric is as great. You almost feel like he is a priest.
I heard that they are planning to scrap the Neilson box rating system. Yeaa. They just lie and don’t actually show the true viewership. Days is hot, but I can understand why General Hospital is doing so well. Their storylines seem more fast paced, and suspenseful. They have alot going for it right now. I wish the writers and NBC would see what and how they are doing it and do the same for Days. A while back I read an article from an NBC executive stating that Days continues to bring money in for NBC. I hope it is true and that they renew Days.
NBC count me as another viewer and renew Days.
Thank you and Happy New Year everyone.

Is it me or is days of our lives one big incest these days??? Any days fans out there who can answer these questions: aren’t daniel and jennifer cousins since we found out he is maggies son?? Isn’t John a Dimera?? So he had sex with a relative kristen and now brady and kristen are having sex??. Too me everyone is too closely related on this show…

DAYS was real boring over the Holidays but it improved these past few episodes as Kristen is such an interesting character.

GH is just totally good right now.

Thanks to whoever posted that Psycho Hope clip I got to watch B&B this week.

Y&R isn’t bad at all, boring in some spots but much improved from previous years. I like the new characters too.

  13. Yamaha

    @ Tough Preds
I like Lindsay Hartley also to lead the show into the future and you’re way right about AMC needing to go forward without relying on Susan Lucci. AMC is going to have to find new people in order to do it and so is OLTL. Even though GH still has their main players they’ve adapted into bringing in new characters and having them help lead the show. GH is a well balanced show right now and I would hope that AMC and OLTL go in that same direction.

  14. Mike

I think AMC definitely needs Lucci. I was not even excited about the project until I heard that the Hubbards would be back. I care nothing about Hartley or her character. She is not what would make me alter my schedule or shell out any money to watch the show.

AMC needs the names that people are familiar with if they want people to subscribe to a service to watch or stream them. A bunch of new characters or newbie characters won’t do it.

They need some good new characters to build for the future, but with them trying to change the whole structure, and lure old viewers back they are going to have to give viewers a reason to. They already have the obstacle of this being so long after the show ended. They can’t even really pick up from the big finale. That is what they had going for them months ago — now they need names that people are familiar with.

To many old fans whether they liked Lucci or not, she was the face of AMC and not asking her or getting her is like one of the big stars saying it wasn’t worth it.

And to me the way they tried to make Lucci look bad last time and pretty much putting her out there for ridicule is something they need to clean up. The same way that Daytime Confidential needed to with Vincent Irizarry pretty much blaming him for the failure the first time when it turned out that they never even approached him to join AMC last time. I was so glad when he called them out on it too.

As far as GH is concerned, I do not know but just following posts in this thread and a few other sites people only for the most part are excited about the veterans and the OLTL characters who would be considered veterans they knew too. I hardly ever hear anyone say they are tuning in for any new characters or new actors. In fact I read more about people hating them for the most part.

Mike stop writing in here, getting tired of reading your long essays. Go do something with your life.

I actually love seeing Mike’s insight on the soaps. He always has good points and gets you to think about some of this…I was going to say something rude to Seattle Frauds…but I’ll just stay above the negativity. :P

“I actually love seeing Mike’s insight on the soaps. He always has good points and gets you to think about some of this…I was going to say something rude to Seattle Frauds…but I’ll just stay above the negativity.”

Stop lying that dude doesn’t say anything but garbage just to get a reaction.

Look if you were going to say something then say something. That’s what I thought you better be scared of me.

Hey, Kayla Rae, NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt announced at the TCA that DOOL is going to be renewed. Take that for what it’s worth. I’d do a link, but I read it on Michael Fairman’s site. He quoted TVline.com

    Very good news! GO SOAPS!

  19. TimsDale4ever

Y&R us is still snoozing along. I had to laugh Friday when they showed the 3 clips for Monday which showed a different person in each clip talking about working or not working at some company. The business dribble on this show is beyond me — who’s working were — who’s working for who — I need you to be my CEO — I need you to watch over things while I’m trying to F someone else over at their company. ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!! Can’t this show come up with a different TYPE of storyline????

  20. TimsDale4ever

Anyone who thinks Y&R’s heyday was in the 90′s and 2000′s hasn’t really got a clue. I’m not saying there wasn’t some watchable material in those years, but if you missed, and apparantly you did, the first 20 years of this show I can’t even begin to tell you what you missed. IT WAS BEYOND EXCEPTIONAL!! If they could get back to just a third of that type of storytelling today I would be praising this show now.
