FOX has renewed Bones for a ninth season.

Veteran Procedural Renewed for Ninth Season on FOX

FOX has renewed the hit series BONES for its upcoming ninth season, it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.

“After more than 150 episodes, BONES continues to be one of television’s most dynamic and consistent dramas,” said Reilly. “We at FOX, along with millions of zealous fans, look forward to seeing where the incredible creative team takes the series next season.”

BONES returns with all-new episodes, beginning with a special two-hour Winter Premiere Monday, Jan. 14 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. In the episode, “The Diamond in the Rough/The Archeologist in the Cocoon,” the Jeffersonian team investigates the death of a professional ballroom dancer who was murdered three days before her audition on a popular dancing competition show. In order to solve the case, Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Booth (David Boreanaz) go undercover as dance competitors to see if they can find potential suspects. Then, the team investigates the murder of a well-known archeologist with a questionable reputation, who came upon a career-defining discovery right before his death.

BONES is a darkly amusing procedural centered on a highly skilled forensic anthropologist and an FBI agent. These unlikely partners take on homicide cases involving human remains that most forensic specialists can’t handle. The series stars Emily Deschanel, David Boreanaz, TJ Thyne, Michaela Conlin, Tamara Taylor and John Francis Daley.

BONES is from Far Field Productions and Josephson Entertainment in association with 20th Century Fox Television. The series was created by Hart Hanson. Hanson, Stephen Nathan, Ian Toynton, Barry Josephson and Jonathan Collier are executive producers.

    Episode order ? It’s probably 22 but I hope 24. Great news :)

  • John A

Im a bit surprised New Girl wasnt renewed at the same time.

  • Sammy01

Great news, both for fans and for its impending return. Nothing more appealing than tuning into a show and knowing it will be around for nearly 40 more episodes at least, which people can now do this upcoming Monday.

Hopefully with the Mob Doctor gone Bones and The Following can form a nice partnership and get mid 2’s.

This show is lucky in that it is a favorite of at least some of the higher ups at Fox (the Masked Scheduler in particular) so it may have a bit more leeway than some other shows. Though it was likely renewed on its own merits as well.

  • JS4P

Well that was expected given Bones relatively okay, and stable performance. And especially given how badly the rest of Fox non-animation shows are doing.

So congrats to the show…as long as this is it’s last season, and that somehow allows for a return to better writing. Maybe knowing it would be the last one would help? Maybe? probably not, but I live in hope.

    This is awesome news!!!

And, Low 2s, since it’s steady, is very decent numbers for all networks. Heck, even CBS, we believe, won’t cancel all 3 (CSINY, TGW, TM) which get about 1.5. True, those are worst time slots (Friday & Football Overrun/SNF) Also, true that Mon @ 8pm there is no competition for Bones b/c there is no other Crime Drama airing that hour. But low 2s, with a small enough cast should be an easy pickup. Which, sense it was announced way b4 May and even b4 the first Spring Show proves how easy a decision it was.

Yay! Now I can breathe a small sigh of relief. I want the ratings to be good the rest of the season so it doesn’t get stuck on Fridays next season.

  • TheFollowing

Bones! yIPEE! But it can be the final season if the ratings are bad.

This says more about Fox’s weakness than Bones’ strength.

Can we conclusively rule Fox’s two hour comedy block dead now? If you assume two hour comedy block, Bones, Glee, and The Following, that leaves zero slots on the schedule to launch a new drama (which they desperately need, with Glee and Bones getting long in the tooth).

I think we’re back to Glee / New Girl / New Comedy next Fall (with Raising Hope running out the string in Friday Spackle Mode).

  • Dan

No surprise, with Fringe, The Mob Doctor and likely Touch all dead its Fox’s only drama left, unless The Following gets renewed.

  • Sammy01

Ratings are probably less important to Bones than most other shows. It is co-produced by Fox meaning it is probably cheaper as the middle man is cut out taking their cut. Fox thus also gets the dvd revenue too.

It does decently with syndication and is sold to networks all around the globe.

I’d say Fox would be keen to squeeze as many episodes out of Bones they can. So I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it manages another couple of years as long as it stays over 1.7 in ratings.

  • Pietro el Grandisimo

Wow – I was hoping it would have gotten cancelled. Been on too long! Loved the show until she got pregnant, then it got fuzzy. Oh well, I will begin to watch it again since I know it will be around another year.

Too bad, this show has gone down hill big time and i was hoping to ride it to the end this year but now i do not thing i can stand 1 more year.

  • Greg

They should have announced New Girl’s renewal as well.

Glad to see they decided to air a 2-hr Bones next Mon instead of that high-diving reality slop.

Hey Dave & Em, Give me another eight!

  • CBSviewer

Im afraid Bones will move to Friday at 9 next season.

When I first heard “Bones” remastered theme, I felt like switching to another channel. Lets hope that when it returnds for season 9,the old theme returns and deep six the season 8 theme. I can think of no other changes, other than this.

Why on Earth would they do that?
Bones won #1 Fox non-animated script show of the week at least two times, and matched New Girl’s ratings another couple of times. And it’s currently in Fox death slot.

It would be so dumb to move it yet again (how many times Bones changed days and slots now? 8?), unless it’s to a better night. But there’s no way they are putting it on Fridays.

Bones earns more money in ad revenue than NCIS. Let’s not be special here, as long as it continues to be a solid performer and the ad rates don’t fall then there is absolutely no way on earth that it get’s shunted to friday or cancelled. No way would Fox jeopardise a big pay cheque or it’s only solid lead in.

It’s the most stable and dependable show that Fox have, it’s been all over their schedule (Literally) and always pulls good numbers. It even made a 2.5 with a delayed episode that had no promo to launch The Finder. It’s the textbook definition of a dependable show, Fox is a ruthless network that has outstanding business savvy. It wouldn’t throw away one of the best ad rates on network TV. The money stays good, the show stays on air. Business 101.
