The comments on the CBS board under each Y&R episode are pretty bad for the most part. People have become very “tired” of this draggy and repetitive show that never seems to go anywhere. And thank God I didn’t miss Avery serving cupcakes to everyone again. Josh — please hold down the drama on your show. I don’t know how much more of this non-stop excitement my heart can take.

  • Glen

Way to go, GH! I hope that the numbers continue to rise. And welcome back to Genie Francis. Can’t wait to see Laura return to PC on Feb. 11.

  • jonboyelk

@timsdale not to be critical but I really don’t understand what it is you want? A Tom cruise action movie? CSI Genoa City? Soaps are about relationships. Relationships involve communication. The Billy/Victoria scene was cute.

  • Derrick

    Bingo jonboyelk!

  • JayTN

jonboyelk…I agree, I don’t understand the constant criticism of Y&R by some people on here. Okay, we get it…you think it is boring. Do you really feel the need to harp on it every single day? Can you imagine the uproar on this board if you replaced Y&R with GH in those criticisms? There would be 10 pages of back and forth arguing every day.

I could understand the Y&R criticism if the show was radically different than before. But, as near as I can recall, Y&R has always been rather dialogue heavy and light on the action. It has also historically shied away from the “stunts” that seem so popular with the people involved with “Days” and GH.

  • Janet

Whoever is rating the shows, please watch the show and then rate it. If I was an advertiser, I would not believe these number. Read the B&B boards on any site. The numbers do not match the comments on the board. B&B is absolutely the worst soap out there. B&B you either love a char or hate them. Now it seems that the viewers who love a char are now stating that they cannot stand them. Board viewers are stating that they gave up. Then how is B&B gaining viewers. They are taking strong chars like Steffy and Bill and making them weak. Brooke is wanting her brother-in-law. It is just NASTY.

GH on the other hand – love it. Great job. No incest stories. Not the same storyline over and over.

  • JayTN

The answer is very simple…only a small percentage of viewers bother to comment on social media/message boards.

This is not unique to daytime. Just look at some of the most active shows on media sights and they are likely to be low-rated. Only “passionate” fans take the time to comment and post on message boards or social media. Just because a series gets a lot of attention online doesn’t mean that it is popular with ALL viewers.

Would someone please tell me why the “two Johns”, one on DOOL, and one on GH, ALWAYS, stand SIDEWAYS to the camera, and are always talking to the other “character”, looking over their shoulder??

Both of these bozos must think this helps their “so-called acting”!

“Earth to both of these clowns”, NEITHER ONE OF YOU CAN ACT!

  • Mike

Pat, I haven’t seen either one of them in a long time but that is usually an indication the actor is reading the teleprompter and doesn’t know his or her lines.

  • Kelby

My two soaps still stink. Y&R and DOOL you are pitiful. Realism, character driven, continuity….that is all I want from my soaps. Peter Bergman (Jack) on Y&R is doing a kicka.s job with his addiction story. Unfortunately, the rest of the show is pretty terrible, but I have to stop my DVR FF when he is on. His acting is FANTASTIC! There are still a number of good actors and acting on the soaps, but the stories are so fast and loose, most of it does not make any da.n sense. Come on!

Hello “Days of our lives” fans, just wanted you to know it just got renewed until September 2014…And since Christmas the show has gotten really good again,If you haven’t watched, your missing some good fighting john & Brady, everyone wants to slap kristian at this moment, and the big wedding this week, with a surprize ending….keep it going i am starting to enjoy it again….tim..

Way got go GH!the show is on fiya right now! Also loving Days And Bold and Beautiful.Love that the Steffi/Liam/Hope triangle is front and center again on B&B!Go Team Hope! And Days has alot of great stuff going on.Love Daniel and Jennifer,Will and Sonny,The Marlena/John/Kristen/Brady quadrangle and the Ej/Sami/Rafe triangle.Lots of really good stuff going on there. But GH rules right now.B&B is a very close second.Watched most soaps in My life but never watched Y&R>Tried on many occasions and I just find it too slow moving and boring. The New York Post just listed GH as one of the Top 5 Shows on all of Tv to watch in 2013!Thats should be an even bigger boost for them! But the most exciting soap news of all Is the return of ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE To LIVE!!!WOO HOO!Outside of SANTA BARBARA(The Best thing to EVER!!! hit Daytime TV)One Life has always been my fave! Here’s to 2013 and the Revenge of the Soaps!

jonboy, derrick, and JayTN — I’m sorry for all my complaing of Y&R but you will just have to skip over my posts because I’m not going to stop until this show gets it together which is a long way off. JonBoy – your comment on the Billy/Victoria scene is a perfect example of what is wrong with the show. I thought the scenes were cute too (and Billy Miller shirtless is always a plus). The problem I have with it is that the show didn’t need to come back to them 15 times — especially when you consider they weren’t discussiong anything crucial to begin with. Twice would have been plenty, and then move them on to a differenct location and conversation with someone else. I’ve always said that if I were an EP of one of these shows my head writer would be strictly instructed that once you have visited 2 characters in one setting that you don’t show them but one more time in that same setting. After that, they need to be interacting with other characters. It helps to keep the show moving along more rapidly even if it is only an allusion.

I can also handle a slow moving show IF the stories that are moving slowly are interesting. This show has always moved slowly, but in the first 20 years or so, the stories were incredibly interesting so you didn’t mind. Today they can have an entire episode between 2 characters talking about nothing more than what kind of coffee they will be ordering — and ordering tomorrow at that — and then on THAT episode we will have to listen to it all over again. It’s insane!

  • jonboyelk

@timsdale No need to apologize. You’re entitled to your opinion same as everyone else. For me, I don’t mind well written (and acted) dialogue even if it is redundant. I wonder if they stay on the same sets due to the ridiculously constraining budgetary demands. I remember years ago when Nikki didn’t leave the Newman ranch for something like a year. You never saw her anywhere but in the house! Can’t answer as to Millers physique but that bartender has potential.

  • JayTN

TimsDale4ever…no offense, but constantly complaining about Y&R seems a little childish and in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t really matter. It is number one and has been for many years, despite losing audience. So, while it may not be up to your standards, a lot of other people disagree.

  • Pat

Awesome for Y and R…that is a huge increase.

  • Pat

And for those who are calling it boring, are you the same folks that criticized MAB? Which is it?

Anyone who watched the show from 1973 to 2006 wouldn’t call it boring, so I’m assuming you liked LML and MAB?

Check out the posts on Facebook or CBS’ site for a completely different perspective on what longtime fans think.

  • Jason

I hope Steven “Lars” Webber is not killed off from GH. I just watched the Heather LSD Storyline from 1979 on YouTube. Mary O’Brien played a deeper, more vulnerable Heather. Although Robin Mattson’s Heather is interesting, she is far too crazy and that plus killing off Steven Lars isn’t a good way to honor the show’s rich 50 year history.

  • LynTX

Ratings for wk of 12/31 – 1/4 are up at SON; all soaps down. GH only soap to gain from same period last year.

Ratings for wk of 1/7 – 1/11 should give us a better indication of where soaps are. Hope all hold on to some gains as they enter Feb sweeps.

  • jonboyelk

@Jason OMG! I couldn’t stand untalented Mary O’Brien back in the day and was pleased with Robin Mattsons early portrayal when she replaced her. 80s Heather was not the total nutjob we see today.
