Every time I see NFL in the prime time ratings I keep wanting to ask the same question:
If Monday Night Football pulls an avg of 12.8 million viewers on ESPN, then why the heck isn’t it on ABC? Moving from cable to network would be worth at least another 10% bump.
I’m confused – ABC doesn’t have a show that I’m aware of that averages 13 million viewers for 17 straight weeks a year, do they?
“If Monday Night Football pulls an avg of 12.8 million viewers on ESPN, then why the heck isn’t it on ABC? “
Because having MNF is one of the main reasons that made ESPN the most valuable property in television. It’s far more valuable than any of the broadcast networks, and makes far more money than any of them.
Disney, the parent of both ABC & ESPN, knew exactly what they were doing.

Because it is part of the corporate media conglomerates master plan to eventually do away with free to air (FTA) broadcast TV and make everything part of a viewer pays TV landscape of cable, specialty & encrypted programming.
