TV Ratings Tuesday: 'Betty White's Off Their Rockers' Returns Down, 'NCIS', 'Happy Endings' & 'Parenthood' Up; 'Go On' & 'The New Normal' Hit Lows

CBS was the number one network in adults 18-49 and with total viewers.

On CBS, NCIS earned a 3.5 adults 18-49 rating up 6% from a 3.3 on December 18. NCIS: Los Angeles garnered a 3.0 among adults 18-49 even with its most recent episode on December 18. Vegas scored a 1.6 adults 18-49 matching its performance on December 18.

On NBC, the season premiere of Betty White’s Off Their Rockers garnered a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating down 16% from a 1.8 for its regular time period premiere on April 3 and down 46% from a 2.6 for its special January preview on January 16, 2012. A second episode at 8:30PM scored a 1.8 among adults 18-49. Go On hit a series low 1.5 adults 18-49 rating down38% from a 2.4 for its most recent episode on December 4. The New Normal also notched a series low with a 1.3 adults 18-49 rating, down 24% from a 1.7 on December 4.  Parenthood earned a 1.9 adults 18-49 rating, up 6% from last week’s 1.8.

On FOX, Raising Hope scored a 1.7adults 18-49 even with its last original on December 11. Ben And Kate earned a 1.2 adults 18-49 rating up 9% from a 1.1 on December 4. New Girl garnered a 2.0 adults 18-49 rating even with its most recent new episode on December 11. The Mindy Project notched a 1.5 among adults 18-49 flat with its December 11 performance.

On ABC, Happy Endings earned a 1.4 adults 18-49 rating up 8% from a 1.3 on December 18. Don’t Trust The B in Apt. 23 scored a 1.1 among adults 18-49 even with its most recent episode on December 18. Private Practice garnered a 1.1 adults 18-49 rating down 8% from a 1.2 on December 18.

On the CW, Emily Owns M.D. earned a 0.3 adults 18-49 rating down 25% from last week’s 0.4.

Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    I loved Off Their Rockers! I hope their ratings go up during the season. The 0.3 rise for the 2nd episode might be a sign. NBC should continue with showing 2 episodes.

    A lot of people thought Go On and The New Normal were repeats so I know for certain that their ratings will go up next week.

    I don’t know why certain people are bashing NBC when they’re still only behind CBS on the day.

    That comedy battle between NBC, FOX, and ABC is the worst ever on television. The battle is probably more about who can score the lowest rating.

    NBC’s, relative, powerhouse in Go On looks to have crash-landed back to Earth. Yikes.

    I knew the two NBC comedies were lead-in dependent. Parenthood is a great show and has no business being on at 10pm.

    Honestly, NBC should order the full 22 next year and actually have it run behind the Voice like they will Revolution but at 9pm Tue. It runs without repeats. Voice has a large family audience and they can hold it and get out of this sitcom battle.

    BTW, Raising Hope seems to be getting closer in ratings to New Girl.

    This also showed that Happy Endings isn’t as bad as it is that the lead in sucks versus what the NBC shows had.

    Parenthood WILL be renewed for next season and hopefully many more in the future. They give the show NO advertising, treat it like a red-headed step child and it still keeps bringing in the steady ratings. Hopefully NBC will be smart enough to give it a FULL season (22 episodes).

    Both Entertainment Weekly and Dish did not show Go On as ‘new’. However, I read the description and knew it was a new episode.

    I’m sorry but I could have sworn both GO ON and The New Normal were repeats I even checked my IO guide to watch them and it didn’t say “NEW” and it quoted a repeated episode for both. Also the only shows I watch are these two Parenthood and Guys With Kids. If they did promos I didn’t see it not even on their FB which I liked. What the heck happened last night?!

    The NCIS juggernaut returned and brutalized the competition as usual. Have to give props to Betty White though. Nearly 91 years young and she outpolled the rest of NBC’s offerings in total viewers and was just barely nipped by Parenthood in the demo for the 8:30 episode. That’s what I call staying power. It’s hard to imagine any young performer today working so productively and with the ability to continue drawing viewers at such an advanced age. White, whether you like her or not, has had a career spanning nearly the entire history of television. Amazingly, that career is still going strong some 60 years later. Kudos.

    It is a case of Go On being tied to a loser (New Normal). Folks are growing weary of watching Go On, flipping for a 1/2hr only to return to watch Parenthood. NBC keeps trying to push their political agenda in on the New Normal when it is nothing “new” or “normal” to their viewing audience. The storyline of Parenthood is much closer to normal for 99% of the world.
