The CW has decided to move forward with a backdoor pilot for a Vampire Diaries spinoff that could expand the franchise into two separate series next year. Currently titled The Originals, the backdoor pilot will air as part of the current season of The Vampire Diaries on April 25. The story will center around the original vampire family and stars Joseph Morgan as Klaus and Phoebe Tonkin.

    Oh yea! Now I remember I forgot about how 90210 and now TVD had extra episodes this season.
    @Tom
    You take me to serious! I mean, I was just saying that people should not assume already that B&TB is getting cancelled its still a toss up. The show could go up when it comes back, we don’t know yet and Nikita is basically getting a renewal for syndication and it will reach its syndication in its fourth season. If its ratings don’t improve and with the show not having a 0.5 since March of last year it looks like season 4 might be its last.

    Are you all stupid?? The Originals are the only reason for me to watch TVD at all. A show about them is the best thing that could happen!! KOL HAS TO BE A SERIES REGULAR!!

    Hey, Mark Pedowitz was asked about a Castiel spin-off :P

    http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/01/the-cw-talks-supernatural-season-9-potential-plus-could-castiel-get-a-spin-off.html
    “You look at [whether the] audience is engaged. You look at that universe — can it actually launch something? ‘Supernatural’ if you decide to do a spin-off off of that, you [question] does it work? Does it incubate the show really well?” Pedowitz explains. “We have a lot of characters on ‘Vampire Diaries,’ and they’re all rich, rich characters. Klaus and the Original family gives us an opportunity to do something where we can get more bang for the buck, so to speak.”

    So nope, the CW prez doesn’t believe Supernatural to have a rich enough universe for a spin-off. Which I can see, they don’t really develop any of the storylines or interesting bits on Supernatural much. Hell, I’m not even sure Sam and Dean count as rich characters with how inconsistent they are.

    I think CW’s ratings have fallen much from what they were the previous seasons and even more so with respect to The WB. I think the originals will be a good replacement for the beauty and beast.
