Well, as fun as this jabbing has been, RedBarSoup, I need to go. Have a good night. And to everyone else as well.

  • cathy

Matthew, of course you are going to trust Stewart more, your beliefs align with his. And Steward delivers his message in a way that most 24 and under like. The fact that Steward has an audience that’s told to laugh loud makes the format different. That’s all I’ve been talking about.

It’s like comparing a drama to a comedy.

You are also looking at a limited time frame with Stewart. How long have you been watching him? Four years? I’m been watching him off and on for over 13 years. It wasn’t that long ago that he’d have fake news stories.

  • cathy

TZCA, I’m blaming you. All this Southpark talk and I had to watch it. Scauses, Dr Z and JC tonight. Nice laugh.

  • RedBarSoup

Sorry TZCA I voted for the other guy. Thanks though! I am usually a happy guy!

  • Matthew

Matthew, of course you are going to trust Stewart more, your beliefs align with his.

I pointed to a multitude of clowns from all of the cable news networks that I consider less reliable. To me, there’s a very important distinction between whether someone is biased, and whether they’re a partisan hack. You can have deep beliefs on the issues, and still operate with at least a shred of integrity, versus the team cheerleading from the partisans.

You are also looking at a limited time frame with Stewart. How long have you been watching him? Four years?

I’ve been watching the Daily Show since Craig Kilborn was the host.

  • cathy

Then the person who told me you were a 20 year old college student was wrong.
A lot wrong seeing how you’re saying you’ve been watching for 15+ years.

You trust Steward and think he gives better news then people on news channels. I’ve seen him be a partisan hack and cheerlead for the partisans. Both on and off of “The Daily Show”. I find political satirist funny, I’ll listen or watch them but I give their news little credit. Because all satirist run and hide behind their shows being comedy any time they go to far. I’ve seen Steward do it.

The Daily Show is a humorous take on the news of the day. JS has said on several occasions, including during his appearances on O’Reilly, that it’s a comedy show.

O’Reilly is “news commentary”. He does not claim to be a hard news show. Shepard Smith, just before his show ends at 7:59, clearly states, “The news portion of the day is over….the commentary portion begins now”.

Yes, they both talk about the news of the day. Yes, they both have interviews and more lighthearted, fun segments. But there is no way they are categorized the same. Otherwise, you would see The Daily Show listed in the cable news network section of the ratings. Sorry to those who disagree—you can argue all you want but it’s up to the professionals to decide.

Incidentally, I like this quote from Matt Stone and Trey Parker: “We hate Republicans, but we REALLY F*****G hate Democrats!”

Why Is It So Cold in the Southwest?

This flip-flopping of hot and cold is caused by a buckling of the jet stream, the current of air that normally ferries air in a relatively straight line from west to east across the United States and out into the Atlantic Ocean.

Now if was usually warm or say a drought it would be caused by GW.

Police being ornery. WARNING – NSFW

The latest decadal prediction suggests that global temperatures over the next five years are likely to be a little lower than predicted from the previous prediction issued in December 2011.

Global temps likely to be lower doesn’t mean cooler temps, it means less warming. How do you get less warming if the temp isn’t cooler? Only those doomer’s who understand the science knows.

  • Hillbilly

Matthew BJ – I’m feeling that you, like Hillbilly, don’t understand the science very well

 Coming from a guy who says lower temps doesn’t mean colder/cooler, it means less warming. In other words 2011 & 2012 wasn’t colder/cooler than 2010..they were just less warmer.

You swallow more easily than any girl I’ve ever met.

You swallowed the Doran, Vision Prize, Anderagg 2010, etc hook, line & sinker.

  • Hillbilly

Doran survey = cites a MSc thesis for the actual source of this 97% figure. They surveyed 10,256 got 3,146 who responded. Then whittled that down to 77. There were two questions asked, that’s not a typo TWO questions asked. 75 responded yes to the two questions. So 75 out of 77 = 97%.

Vision Prize = Online survey. That’s real science for ya.

Anderagg 2010 = Convinced of man made GW. Pay walled so don’t what the role of man is. Just CO2 or all of man’s activities? Also how many papers **they published & how often they were cited by others.

“..scientific issues cannot be decided by a vote of scientists. A consensus is not, at any given time, a good predictor of where the truth actually resides..”

  • Hillbilly

Now to show you an example of how another survey of published papers was conducted. Let me be clear I’m not paying to read the Anderagg 2010 paper so i don’t know how they came up with their published papers survey deal.

Our search of the ISI Web of Science database has found 4 of your papers published between 1991 and 2011 matching the search phrases ‘global warming’ or ‘global climate change’ (noting that due to the specific search parameters, it’s possible that some of your papers may not be included).

The guy who received the survey has over 300 peer reviewed papers (370 according to his twitter account) & this survey got 4 of them, one belonging to his son. So do to the “specific search parameters” they only missed 396 of his papers. Survey’s are like polls, depends on what questions are asked as to the answer you get.

  • Hillbilly

What i find amusing is when you provide this link to some doomer sites the comment gets deleted. Perhaps because he took them to school on how to use Google scholar.

  • Hillbilly

I bet the sky is falling faster than previous predicted. I’ll bet they try to link bad weather to GW too.

NASA, NOAA To Announce 2012 Global Temperature, Climate Conditions Jan. 15

WASHINGTON — U.S. government climate experts will announce new data on global temperature conditions in 2012 during a news teleconference at 2 p.m. EST Tuesday, Jan. 15. NASA and NOAA scientists will discuss the new results and the year’s most significant weather and climate events.

  • Hillbilly

Matthew – you never took ownership of being wrong, or acknowledged this.

Pot & Kettle deal? You still have not provided a credible source for linking drought to GW. Still have not proven or show evidence or a source that the 2012 drought in the USA wouldn’t have happen without global warming. Which you need to do to prove that GW caused the drought.

  • Hillbilly

Ratboy – so it is returning to the baseline for another session of testing to see if GW is in fact a fact????

Well according to NASA there’s 3 possible baselines. So i’ll have to adjust the model, put in some new guesses, get the latest software and get back to ya. :)

Hillbilly, I want to know how you know it was me topless? I am not pro or con gay marriage, I just like to be topless. No matter how much the airfare is.

AppleStinx told me it was you.

I predicted Bill O’s ratings to be 3.646 million for 2012 to 2017. I then come up with a new model that says from 2012 to 2017 his ratings will be 3.542. With my new model did i predict his ratings to go higher or lower?

    Good Tuesday Morning Everyone

*White House readies 19 executive orders on guns…

Was in Nashville yesterday, went to a Christian conference on Gun Control measures and what the church should support…

It was about 50/50 for and against..I’m still dizzy from it, not one scream, not one yell, and everyone was civil and the discussions we’re fantastic.

Both sides (average citizens) have good points on stronger guns controls, this issue if done “right” could produce many solutions if and “IF” both sides would take the time to discuss and come up with compromised solutions and try this overnight executive order junk.

If the White House goes through and issues exec orders (Which are NOT legally binding or enforceable by the way) all it’s going to do is anger a lot of people unnecessarily. This issue should and MUST be decided by both houses of Congress because like them or not, that is where the peoples voice is to be heard.

Pesky little thing that ole constitution is huh? :-)
