Our Renew / Cancel Index predicts the network's decision on renewal or cancellation for scripted broadcast primetime shows by the end of the 2012-13 season in May, 2013. (includes results from December 31, 2012- January 13, 2013):

With the strong finish to its Fall ratings and its spring ratings start, ABC's Scandal has moved into the "certain to be renewed" range. While Robert beat me to that prediction, he moved Revenge down a notch. I'm not ready to do that. Even Revenge's season low 2.0 rating on Sunday night was only a tenth below my ABC scripted average for the week. After five years of running this site, the intramural warfare in our comments between Revenge & Scandal fans doesn't surprise me. All I can say is, bring your friends!

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, the "old" Fall predictions will carry over.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Apologies for your lack of knowledge, I’m sure you’l someday, have some idea what you’re talking about.

Keep up those fantasy schedules buddy, someday one of them just might come true!

To be fair. S.H.I.E.L.D is more likely to be aired during a weekday by ABC. Not to mention I’ve seen nothing to suggest ABC would even consider moving Revenge away from Once Upon a Time. Both shows perform well together and are quite the unlikely pairing.

I would put S.H.I.E.L.D as a Monday, or Tuesday show personally. ABC is doing fine on Sunday and could use a hit on either of those 2 days.

  • The End

Gah, triple posting. Basically would put S.H.E.I.L.D down as a 10pm show(On Monday) and put it after Dancing with the Stars. You can’t do much wrong there. Or would put on a Tuesday at 9pm.

@Nick I was saying SHIELD could be the next Revolution in terms of premiering big sorry I didn’t state that. So I was putting it in the 8 pm timeslot basically how ABC put the OUAT at 8 pm and it premiered big. It doesn’t need a lead in especially since it wont be a female skewed show

Apologies for your lack of knowledge, I’m sure you’l someday, have some idea what you’re talking about.

At what point did I indicate I had a lack of knowledge? You’re the one who can’t even spell “you’ll”.

It doesn’t need a lead in especially since it wont be a female skewed show

I agree with the fact that it won’t need a lead-in, but what does it being male-skewing have to do with it?

I love Revenge, but the story week to week becomes convoluted and at times down right rediculous. One week Victoria hates Conrad and tries to frame him, the next they’re working together. It’s a great show with a fantastic story, but the weekly drama can be borderline corny and not believable

  • The End

To be fair, a lot of the stuff you’ve mentioned on this thread indicates that. And making 1 reference to one typo that I’ve made says it all really. And with that being said, I’m done on this subject.

I don’t know how do you watch and enjoy “Once Upon a Time”, it is horribly awful, one would think that after a genius show such as “lost” the ABC would give us an even more genius show. it is so disappointing

  • Sara

I will admit once is having a bit if a sophomore slump but it still better then the majority of what is on. I just want them to bring back Pinocchio. He had so much more potential then these new characters they keep adding.

  • USAmerica1st

    Scandal! Great show.

  • TJ

^^Correction, no new episodes will air for four weeks, maybe we’ll get some shows in February after the pre-emptions on 02/5 and 02/12.

Let the above comment further prove to anyone who doubts that “Scandal” nutjob fan “Max,” who always posts first when the Sunday ratings are released, trashing “Revenge” and touting his beloved “Scandal” instead is really just someone who runs or works for TVBTN. It is the ONLY way “Max” can always be posting first, and Bill Gorman himself says here, “bring your friends,” thus proving his desire for the war and the traffic it generates. It is all a fake-out designed to increase traffic and page views, so stop feeding into it!! Both shows will be renewed, anyway, so the “war” is unnecessary ;)

So far futoncritic’s site still shows episodes of A23 airing on 2/19, 2/26, 3/5, 3/12 and 3/19. Maybe that will change some time soon, but for now those are still on the schedule. We’ll see what happens.

  • Ricks

I just read that ABC has “quietly dropped” “Dont Trust the B” from their schedule and will be instead playing back-to-back Happy Endings for the rest of the season. I guess this way they’ll be able to air all their episodes by the time they get taken off in March. I guess in a way it’s good for Happy Endings to get all it’s episodes aired, even if it does look like burn-off. But this seems to be official that DTTBIA23 is cancelled, probably just gonna burn off their last episodes during the summer (or possibly not at all? they might just put them on Hulu instead).

  • TJ

Ugh, looks like the futon critic was a harbinger of what was to come for Don’t Trust the B…too bad.

  • Grey

“Don’t Trust the ‘B'” just got the axe according to TVG. 01/22/13 3:00 PM, PST.

  • The Yetti

James van der been posted on his fb page that don’t trust the b is cancelled, burn off for last 8 episodes not decided

  • Rebecca

Yep, futoncritic updated their listings and posted an article that had three tweets from VanDerBeek, Dreama and Ritter saying the show is canceled. Maybe the remaining 8 episodes will be on hulu at some point. Man Up finished up there.

Great job “Scandal” and Promotional team!..Promotion, Promotion and Promotion..I guess that’s what it takes for a show to get a buzz and increase viewership!
