New York, NY – January 15, 2013 – AMC and Fox Television Studios (FTVS) announced today a new deal which will return “The Killing” to AMC for a third season. As part of the deal, Veena Sud returns as executive producer, writer and showrunner along with actors Mireille Enos (Sarah Linden) and Joel Kinnaman (Stephen Holder).  Season three will focus on a new case, which will be resolved over the course of 12 episodes. Production on season three begins February 25th in Vancouver.

“‘The Killing’ from day one has been a truly original take on the crime drama. Veena Sud and the rest of the talented creative team are hard at work shaping the lives of Linden and Holder, portrayed by the terrific Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman," said Charlie Collier, AMC’s president. "We're so pleased to welcome back 'The Killing' for another season."

Fox TV Studios President, David Madden, said, “We have always believed in 'The Killing' and remain extremely proud of it, which is why we all worked so hard to find a scenario that could give it new life.”

“I couldn’t be happier to know that I will be returning to work with AMC, FTVS and Mireille and Joel on what is and has always been a passion project for me. To the fans that have supported the series, thank you for doing so. My team and I will work hard to deliver the best story that we can for season three,” said Veena Sud.

A year after closing the Rosie Larsen case, Sarah Linden is no longer a detective. But when her ex-partner Stephen Holder's search for a runaway girl leads him to discover a gruesome string of murders that connects to a previous murder investigation by Linden, she is drawn back into the life she thought she'd left behind.

“The Killing” is produced by Fox Television Studios and executive produced by Mikkel Bondesen for Bondesen Productions.  Kristen Campo serves as co-executive producer.

The series premiered on AMC Sunday, April 3, 2011, with season two premiering Sunday, April 1, 2012. The Killing averaged 1.9 million viewers over the 2 seasons.

AMC’s Joel Stillerman, executive vice president of original programming, production and digital content, Susie Fitzgerald, senior vice president of scripted development and current programming and Jason Fisher, senior vice president of production oversee production of the series for the network.

So why was it renewed if Netflix wasnt involved? The ratings were horrible.

Original? Since when did remaking a European show constitute an original take on anything?

This is absolutely horrific news. I thought, naïvely, that Hollywood had perhaps learned it’s lesson about ‘remaking’ (i.e. destroying) European shows.

It saddens me that the terrific original will not be aired properly in the US because the majority are too lazy too read subtitles thus no network will bother leaving those that would be willing to read subtitles to miss out on European creativity at it’s finest.

  • The Killing Rocks!

I said it! I said it! for all the haters and naysayers….The Killing is coming back and it will be amazing!

“Season three will focus on a new case, which will be resolved over the course of 12 episodes.” Good

    Looking forward to it

Nice, all great actors and great characters, I am also glad they went with a season long arc instead of standalone episodes.

i loved LINDEN an HOLDER.was not a fan of how they dew out the case in two seasons but unlike alot of viewers was not surprised by that.mabe that comes from years of watching daytime soaps.ha ha but i will watch justs two watch these two work together.

It’s not about being lazy. Subtitles are just a turn off to some people. It’s a turn off to me because it distracts me from what’s happening on screen. If I wanted to read something, I’d read a book. It’s almost like pressing a button to see the next text in video games (was a common thing back then until characters got voices) Idk..it just ruins the experience to me.

This is a good show. The only problem I saw was that it had too many twists. Folks on here have no room to hate. If you watch sitcoms you might as well do the world a favor and off yourself. What’s wrong with entertainment that makes you use your brain?

@Malamute Dad – If production starts in Feb. I’m guessing not before the summer… though personally, I feel the show’s mood better fits an autumn or winter broadcast.

  • Malamute Dad

@Simon …. thank you for the info

  • Just Grand

12 episodes to solve a crime is just fine! Im glad they renewed it. Pacing will no longer be an issue!

  • Woland

Original? Not even the original Danish Forbrydelsen was original. Forbyrdelsen was very much grounded in Nordic noir and its detective is very much in the Sherlock Holmes mold. All that said, Forbrydelsen was, in my opinion, brilliant TV. The Killing is not.

I’m appalled that worthless, brain-dead trash like this gets resurrected while the underrated and smart Alphas (on Syfy) gets cancelled.

Another season full of red herrings and lousy writing, ahoy!

I am sort of curious to see Forbrydelsen, the original version… except that a recent New Yorker article made it sound like it ALSO has sloppy writing full of dropped plot threads and details hastily thrown in and never followed up on. True? Maybe the U.S. version is actually more accurate than we realized? Forbrydelsen shouldn’t get a free pass just for being European. It’s baffling that Ovation or IFC or Reelz have not picked it up, though. I’d love to check it out without having to rent or stream it.

I watched the episode of Rosie, the run away girl, who was killed and is there going to be a closuer on that. I have not been able to find it,the time or channel it will be on.
