via press release:

During its first week in its new 11:35pm time slot (Tuesday-Friday), ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live attracted its biggest audience in its history (3.017 million), surpassing the show’s previous high by 26%. In fact, Thursday’s broadcast and Tuesday’s debut marked the show’s Top 2 most-watched regular telecasts ever. In addition, JKL delivered its best performance with Adults 18-49 (1.070 million) in over 9 years (since the week of 11/24/03).

  • Jimmy Kimmel Live ranked as the week’s #1 show in late-night in Adults 18-49, beating runner-up NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno by 3%.

  • Jimmy Kimmel Live beat CBS’ The Late Show with David Letterman during the week by 31% in Adults 18-49, marking JKL’s first-ever in-season win and its largest margin of victory ever during any week over The Late Show.

·         JKL grew over its 2012-13 season averages in its previous 12am time slot by 55% in Total Viewers and by 60% in Adults 18-49.

As much as I will always idolize Dave, I’m thrilled with these numbers for Jimmy. His monologue is by far the most consistently funny in the late night race. I only hope that over time he builds more numbers in the older bracket, if only to syphon them away from that lunkhead on NBC.

Smart move by ABC to move JKL up to 11:35pm. I was skeptical about the change but it has obviously paid off handsomely & even Nightline is thriving in its new late night slot.

Anything should be able to beat David Letterman. Talk about a Stiff show and no I’m not referring to his torrid affair with a coworker from years ago!!!!

I haven’t watched Late Night tv in a while but I did like Leno for a while, I know JKL uncle died and checked out a couple episodes from time to time and seems to be doing ok.. I know from word of mouth that his show has improved a lot prior to this move. I just don’t understand why ABC would move nightline later and JKL earlier when, Nightline easily hands down was top show.

They need to get Joel McHale a talk show ASAP.

“I just don’t understand why ABC would move nightline later and JKL earlier when, Nightline easily hands down was top show.”

Nightline very rarely won its time period and was not a great lead-in for JKL. By flipping the shows, they have a shot at a full hour show that wins its time period, and then even a last place performance by Nightline could still leave ABC better off for the full 90 minute span of its late night programming.

I hate this photo of Kimmel. It wreaks SMUG!

In a way, you’re right about Kimmel’s monologue. The concept of the monologue is tired…exhausted, actually. The poster child for this is Jay Leno’s. He gives it like he’s had a case of Red Bull, and never takes his eyes off the cue cards. I love Dave, but his is often too boring. It’s best when he has some fun with the audience. Conan’s is often painful.

That may be a key to Kimmel’s success…doing something different opposite the relics on NBC and CBS.

    Way to to Kimmel !!!
