    The cooling phase has to start before the baseline of 70 degrees can be reached. Get it? Using your logic the water doesn’t cool until it reaches 70 degrees. Its just gets less warmer.

    No, that’s not ‘using my logic,’ that’s you ‘failing to read above a 5th grade level,’ and coming to incorrect conclusions about both what I am saying to you, and what the MET Office forecast says. The (in your scenario) projection isn’t that the water is ‘going to start cooling,’ it’s that the water will continue to warm for the next five years.

    One more example. My doc says i should weigh 200lbs. I weigh 300lbs. One month later i weigh 270lbs…did i lose weight? Using your logic no..i just weigh less.

    Same incorrect conclusion, different analogy. You weigh 300 lbs, your doctor PROJECTS that under your current lifestyle habits, you’ll have gained 30 lbs between visits; by your next visit, you’ve gained 26 (20% lower than projected). By your argument, despite GAINING weight, you’ve somehow ‘lost weight’ because you’re not as fat as projected. Rather than comparing Point A to Point B to determine what the linear trend is, you’re trying to compare projected Point B to Final Point B and declare it weight loss. You don’t get credit for the extra four lbs that you ‘could have’ weighed to declare yourself to to be in a ‘weight loss phase.’

    Put alternately, your doctor says “Under Scenario A, you’ll weigh 30 lbs more next month. Under Scenario B, you’ll weigh 26 lbs next month.” By your logic, Scenario A is a weight gain scenario, and Scenario B is a weight loss scenario. They’re both weight gain scenarios, as per the net result. The net result of the MET Office projection is warming.

    And, again, none of this is even contingent upon accepting the MET Office projection as correct, it’s literally just a verbatim reading of what they’re projecting, and you can’t even do that correctly.

    D.D. People hate the truth, but I’m going to say it. Many Americans have become lazy. Just like the journalists. People think they are good workers because they go to work. They think because they work for a company they are the reason the company makes money. But if the company fails it’s the boss’s fault.

    I don’t believe in climate change (global warming).
    The main problem I have with the government spending billions on global warming research is this;

    I first flew from Chicago to Detroit in 1975. Only a blind person can’t see the dark smog and dirty water that surrounded Gary, IN. Over the years we can see how nature cleans itself up when we decrease pollution. Everyone will agree that men has an impact on the earth. We have to have checks and balances. The whole world needs checks and balances not just the U.S.

    In 2007 China surpassed the U.S. in pollution. Japan’s pollution is worse then U.S. When you look at products produced every country pollutes more then the U.S. We can’t save the world by only limiting U.S. pollution. Every country needs to get on board. Instead of spending money on during global warming research. And killing the U.S. economy with tons of regulations. We only need the U.S. studies from the 80? and
    90? to prove to other countries they need to decrease their pollution. We can even show them how to reduce it.

    Let’s focus on bringing the other countries up to the U.S. standard first. Our time and money would be better spent on getting all countries on board with pollution controls.

    JUST IMAGINE how crazy people would get if we decided to spend money on cleaning up OTHER nations’ pollution. Obama can’t pick his nose without the Republicans getting angry.

    Ideally, we’d continue to innovate in superior (less polluting) technologies, while the rest of the world chases us. I’ve posted about them here, but I’d love to see a bigger push in the U.S. toward the traveling wave reactors that Bill Gates is investing in, as they literally use pollution (depleted uranium) as a portion of their fuel. Unfortunately, anti-nuclear hysteria is pretty high in this country.

    Those who watch MSNBC and FNC are inclined to believe the spin that those networks espouse. The rise and fall of viewership on a given day or week only reflects the momentary interest indoctrinated viewers have with regard to the day’s news.

    People are not flocking from one network to another (e.g., FNC-to-MSNBC or MSNBC-to-FNC). They simply tune in to their preferred source of propaganda or they tune out. Therefore, it doesn’t matter much if ratings swell at FNC or MSNBC. It’s only among those who already buy what’s being sold.

    Also, cable news viewership is so low (compared to network news), I wonder why you guys (and gals) fight so much about it. To me, it seems to make more sense to contrast the big 3. Ex: why is the hierarchy NBC > ABC > CBS?

    Some of you are flat-out bizarre (though very entertaining). I suppose that’s why I check in on you folks every once in a while. :)

  • Matthew

    …gained 30 lbs between visits; by your next visit, you’ve gained 26 (20% lower than projected).

    CORRECTION: this should be 24 lbs, not 26 (for the purposes of being 20% lower than 30).

    Hey–Fox hires loons like Palin and Huckabee because they have loony audience…just like Beck and Limbaugh have. It’s that simple….so it’s not unusual they would hire Rove who refused to believe Fox’s statisticians. But Fox makes a ton of money off loons……

  • usa8888

    Fox “news”, the right wing propaganda network, is reporting that Defense is cutting jobs. What they don’t say is that it’s because Defense has grown larger than that of the next 8 countries combined and it’s not a cutback but a reduction in the RATE of growth. Further, the top generals don’t need the excessive spending the right wingers want. The right wingers, Lian Ryan leading, are content to cut Social Security and Medicare because they don’t like “government” programs, even though 90% of the American people love them and they are working well (for decades).

    Kendall—

    Well said. However, you need to consider the cathartic nature of debate, especially when one feels like they won. That’s what keeps people coming back to this or other pages like it day after day. Better to get it out here, anonymously, instead of taking it out in your family or friends.

  • usa8888

    Another poll, CBS/NY Times, is reporting that majority of Americans agree with Obama’s gun proposals. Fox, the propaganda network for the right wing, has yet to report any polls because they are all against the right wing fringe….

  • clinging to my god

    You mean like the “sane” people who watch “tingles” and the racebaiting al sharpton?

  • clinging to my god

    Give it up USA8888, your MSNBC is tanking…all the gloating looks really stupid now… lol Nice to see Hannity making such a great rebound…oooooo that’s gotta hurt!!!

    Usa888……………please tell us what your definition of a loon is.

    What has happened to Gary is tragic. It reminds me of Detroit.

    @Matthew
    I’d love to see a bigger push in the U.S. toward the traveling wave reactors

    This is one of the few areas I agree with you . I think I first read about t.w. reactors in some article in Popular Mechanics , but, I haven’t been keeping up to date with the progress.

    My usual time to veg out is now.

    your MSNBC is tanking

    MSNBC is NOT “tanking”. Yes they are getting beat by Fox News, but they are not tanking.

  • usa8888

    Hey Clinging–hannity has a very minute audience and his show is dwarfed by the election rout we saw last year. Hannity continues to talk to the uneducated–people who probably believe in the absurd concept of creationism. There are actually some right wing GOP congressmen who think the Earth was formed in 8 days and is a thousand years old. Can you imagine such stupidity…and this bozo is the head of the congressional science committee (appointed the GOP)….

  • Mark2

    @Ratboy “Fox News Channel and Karl Rove has agreed to a multi-year deal that renews his Fox contributor position through the 2016 election”

    -That’s great news for the Democrats…this will guarantee that a Democrat will be elected as President in 2016. Thank You Fox News for helping the Democratic Party.

    Cable’s Key Demo numbers for 18-49 yr olds…which is the most important thing when it comes to Cable TV:

    Jon Stewart = 1,012,320

    Colbert = 885,780
