Last night, the first night of the American Idol premiere earned a 6.0 adults 18-49 rating, which was lower than what almost half of you predicted. Night 2 has historically seen a sizeable drop from the first night's premiere rating (last year's 7.4 premiere rating dropped to a 5.7, and the 9.8 from the year before dropped the next night to a 7.8), so do you think we see a similar drop this year for night 2? Or do you think more viewers will stick around for the Mariah Carey/Niki Minaj drama? Make your predictions below and tell us what you think in the comments!

Some drop, to a 5.6. No new TBBT will definitely help.

  • Californiadgd

5.4, next week 4.6 TBBT will beat it.

  • omabin

A 4.4. It fell 26% and 30% on previous years, so I predict an average 28% drop.

  • Shepherd

    4.8

I believe this season will follow the trend of season 10. The second episode of season 10 earned a 7.8 after the premiere garnered a 9.7 rating. So I predict tonight’s episode will drop 20% from yesterday’s 6.0 to a 4.8.

    I say 5.0.

I viewed the first 10 minutes last night and could not stand the catty bickering between the female judges. This is supposed to be a competition between the contestants – not drama about the judges. It was absolutely horrible. I was embarrassed for the judges, the show, and the network. I’ve watched American Idol every season since the show started but no more…. last night was the last time I tune in. My prediction is this will be the last season for this show.

    American Idol doesn’t interest me a lot, but for Fox’s sake I hope it’s above a 5.0!

  • Lucas

    2011: -2.0
    2012: -1.8
    2013: -1.5

So, I bet it will be at a 4.5 18-49.

I think Idol will do better than yesterday because of the momentum it is gaining after the media saw the drama in yesterday’s episode!! Now we all love drama! So I think also idol will continue to dominate not only because of its all star judging panel but because it has launched the careers of big time superstars!! I think today’s idol episode will bring in about 6.3 and about 18-19 million viewers!! All hail nicki minaj!!!! And Mariah!!

  • SS

I think it will be higher because CBS has all repeats. I think it will drop next week

  • Abc123

thinking 5.6 or 5.7, since TBBT is a rerun tonight… altho TBBT rerun will still probably pull close to a 4.0

  • Patrick Ausgewahlt

As the audition shows are the most entertaining of the whole season, I think this episode will score the highest until the finale. Especially going against TBBT. It might win in viewers, but TBBT will win in 18-49. Idol used to average 50-55% of the audience being in the key demo. It’s fallen to 40-42%.

  • Flame

4.9 – 5.3 since there isn’t much competition on. Lower next week when TBBT is back.

  • Oliver

The Lance Armstrong OWN interview is tonight at 9 too, which may screw things up for the broadcast networks. No idea what ratings it will get, though, might be surprisingly low.

  • Jared

I have no intention of watching Idol this season but I expect a pretty sizeable drop tonight. Considering the premiere got a 6.0 last night I’ll predict anywhere between 4.9-5.3

  • DenverDean

Next week CBS is still in reruns. (They rarely run new episodes the week before sweeps – so starting next Thursday – Wednesday will be mostly repeats on CBS.) This year, especially, CBS will really be hurt by March Madness losing two Thursdays. They should consider dropping those shows (even repeats in other time slots in lieu of other repeats – like POI or Elementary instead of Vegas.

    @Patrick Nicht-Ausgewählt
This is not RTL and if anything, ratings are falling there too. And if you read the text above, last year’s ratings fell from 7.4 to 5.7 so you’re being delusional in more ways than one.

  • Six Seasons and a Movie

It needs to be as low as possible on Thursdays so Community has a fighting chance.

  • eridapo

5.7 to 5.8 tonight, and it will keep dropping each week before settling in the mid to high fours.
