  • Jerry Styles

Yeah very good start to the year for the soaps. All four of the soaps seem to be thriving lately.

  • MBmomof3

    All soaps up. Excellent!

  • Chandler

I read about the OLTL people on generalhospital.about.com

  • sears

Y&R has been turning that corner lately as a much improved soap. I like the new balance on the show with the younger characters like Fen giving the show good interest. With Steve Burton joining that should add some fire to the show with new viewers getting into it.

Good to hear more about the OLTL casting news as I heard Robin Strasser is coming back officially now also.

  • Deeann

Cool news! I hope they all continue to thrive.

  • Kelby

On DOOL, the only thing I am somewhat interested in is what Chloe is up to. Other than that, that show is still off to me. Y&R still does not really interest me in any way. Those new young actors on their are hard to look at and are not good actors. Pitiful!

  • Pedalstle

I’m really liking the direction Y&R is going in especially with their new young actors its breathing new life into the show. Good to finally see them have some good news ratings wise.

B&B is pretty messy but even though people hate this triangle it creates debates which is probably why the show thrives off of this tired formula that started with Ridge-Brooke-Taylor and has now continued unnecessarily with the most confused man in the world Liam with Hope and Steffy.

DAYS is probably still the lone soap that needs better writing this show could be doing so much better as they have Kristen, Brady, Marlena, John, Will, Sonny, Gabi, Nick, and Chloe making the show interesting but when they’re not on I’m ready to change the channel to GH. DAYS should never have a major storyline without their franchise player Hope that’s part of the problem too.

Speaking of GH no doubt this is the best soap from top to bottom. This is just old fashioned storytelling they have on there and that’s why its doing so well now touching 3 million viewers at least once a week regularly now.

Wow. Days continues to surprise me. I used to be a day here a day there watcher, but lately I can not miss one episode. So addictive. I can not believe how they are treating the Will and Sonny storyline. This is finally being played out on TV with true heart and compassion. Not just a gay storyline but a story line that could simply be played with a male and female. Their kissing scenes are hot and heavy. This shows you how advanced Days has come to the times. Kristen is a great reintroduction into the show. Father Eric and the religon resurgence is something that soaps have been missing. Remember Guiding Light… The soaps always touched in one way or another on Religon. I am just as confused with Sami as to who I would pick, Rafe or EJ. Marlene and John back in the spotlight with the past brings back memories. Daniel and Jennifer should actually get together they are perfect as a couple. Billie, Hope, Adrinne, Abe, Justin, Victor, Maggie, Caroline, Kayla, and so many other great talent need more air time. All in all, DAYS is getting me hooked again. Can not wait for it on Monday. I record it and watch it that day, or time shift it with my service provider. Keep up the great work Days. NBC thank you, thank you, THANK YOU.

  • James Michael

I am also happy to see all numbers go up for all shows! I hope this continues.

I am finally allowing myself to get excited about the relaunch of OLTL. The latest news about Strasser signing and Slezak/Woods about to and the selection of a head writing team has my heart pumping. I loved this show so much I need it to be right!! It seems to me the focus is strictly on OLTL since I’m not hearing anything about AMC.

I liked the way the OLTL characters were incorporated into Port Charles but prefer them in Llanview. Their history is there. It would be very easy to back them out of GH. GH doesn’t need them as long as RC/FV are in control. I wouldn’t be too surprised if the transfer of the OLTL characters was simply a way to keep OLTL alive until PP was ready to relaunch anyway. Looking back, clearly they didn’t have time to relaunch immediately after ABC cancelled. Remember RC/FV was supposed to head up Prospect Park’s daytime lineup and were immediately signed by ABC when the plans to keep the shows going fell through. Obviously ABC did not want to lose FV/RC. Hmmmmmm. They still have this dynamic duo but the rest of the folks are free to go back to OLTL.

I’m no expert but know businessmen sit around tables and carefully plan out everything. Everything is on paper before it happens. I’m just sayin’

There is always more behind the scenes stuff we never really know about and this all seems very planned out this time around.

Whatever the case, may the relaunch be successful!! I will watch as long as they give us a quality show.

  • Pat

So glad to see all the shows holding on from a year ago.

Y and R has been so much better with the writing. Much more even than under MAB, who wasn’t as bad as people say.

Verdict is still out on JFP as EP.

  • Shelly

Good news!!!! So happy for all soaps. Sorry, I’m still not into Y & R. It’s a bad sign for me personally when I turn on the show and I don’t recognize the 2 characters in a scene. I immediately change the channel. New characters and excessive recasts need to come on gradually. Case in point: Sabrina and Felix on GH. I LOVE them!!! I even love to hate Britt who is an old school, scheming, man eating, lying soap opera b%^&h.

  • Pat

Shelly, you should have watched more than one scene since Y and R still has:

Kay, Jack, Phyllis, Sharon, Nick, Victor, Nikki, Victoria, Billy, Neil, Lily, Cane, Michael, Lauren, Adam, Gloria…and more that have been on the show for 10, 20, 30+ years in some cases.

Luckily we do have some new younger characters that are children of the legacy characters to carry the show into the next era. That’s who you probably saw.

  • jonboyelk

Everyone on Y&R was a new character at one time. There is no one who has been there from day one. Even Jeanne Cooper didn’t come aboard until 6 months into the series. Todays newbies could eventually become the faces we want to see years from now. BTW, is anyone else throwing things at the screen whenever sanctimonious tough guy Victor appears? Can’t stand him anymore.

  • Lynn

I can’t believe the ratings B&B are getting. It is terrible. The worst soap – I can’t even watch. I wish people would rate it correctly, then maybe Bell would do something about the show. In fact, someone on the boards were calling people Trolls, because they believe people are being paid to say nice things about B&B.

GH is getting really good. Don’t like the vampire story, but love Lucy. The only thing saving YR is Jack, Billy and Adam.

  • James Michael

I try B&B everytime I’m off from work, just can’t get into it. I will keep an eye on the comments here and check out Y&R again. The times I’ve seen it in recent months though it was simply boring. I never want to write off a soap but if its no fun then…

I watch online and stay a few days behind on GH so I just saw Lucy walk in to Kelly’s, see John McBain and gasp the name Caleb. Okay I yelled too. I loved it since Lucy was in the midst of the vampire story on Port Charles. Makes sense to me but haven’t seen where they’re taking this. I did love Dark Shadows though. (smile)

  • KOPS

I gotta agree on the Y&R improvements but I wanted to echo what one of the posters was talking about with DAYS and the excellence of the gay couple Will & Sonny. This might just be the best written storyline for a gay couple as actually does have a lot of real-life elements to it. GH has gone back to the basics and that’s why its been so good, I hope this vampire storyline doesn’t last too long though.

With that being said I am getting real stoked for AMC & OLTL as most of the major players are being brought back. This could be a huge premiere and I think the quality of the shows should be up as the hires sound better than their latter days on ABC specifically for AMC which had been terrible for like almost 10 years before it ended. I think AMC fans might finally get a good quality show like OLTL and GH fans have been able to have in recent years.

My question going forward will be the television situation as I’m really hoping its a good network whether it be broadcast or cable as these ratings could be big whenever they return.

  • KOPS

B&B is absolutely atrocious and its only really because of the triangle, most of the show outside of that is okay or well-written. It’s just the triangle ruining it for me.

Also the whole new characters deal, I hate it when people nitpick at this. Everybody has to get used to new characters sometimes they come on strong instantly or gradually become a likable character. I never liked Connie on GH until about a month ago and I usually like evil characters instantly.

Everybody starts out new on a soap, nobody just becomes an iconic figure like Victor Newman overnight. It takes time to get used to new characters and you just have to be patient with them. As long as their written well you really shouldn’t be complaining.

I like the Y&R youth movement because they’ve needed it for a while now that’s actually one of the main reasons why the show has been so bad these past few years. I really like the new Fenmore character and the new cop in town. On GH, Felix, Sabrina, and Dr. Britt have been the best new trio of characters I’ve seen on that show in a long time. Dr. Britt is becoming one of my favorites just a simple beautiful psychopath. It was irritating to hear the GH fans who didn’t watch OLTL complain about the characters who came over there but they ended up making the show much better and saving the show.

Had AMC and OLTL not gotten as many veterans returning all you would’ve heard was complaints about how the fans didn’t recognize this or that character. I actually hope especially for AMC that they have a huge youth movement on their show and not killing onto the veterans who will die in coming decades.

  • jonboyelk

@Kops Totally agree about the new GH characters although I wish there was some back story on Britt to not make her so one dimensional. A little difficult to accept her as a doctor but who cares. If handled properly Sabrina could become an imporant character in the future.

  • Mike

I do not mind new characters when they are blended in and their back story is given, and they have layers. But too often now new characters are introduced as plot points and immediately thrown into story before you actually begin to like them or care about them.

To me it is hard to have sympathy or hate a character when you just don’t have any real feeling toward them. It is up to the writer to make you feel that way and up to the actor to add to the writers words and give the character layers.

And please don’t overexpose a character until I have gotten to know him or her. I think of examples like Spencer Truman on One Life; EJ on Days; Babe Carey on All My Children; Dante on General Hospital; Adam on Y&R — and so many others.

All were and could have been great characters, but they were on so much when they first got to their shows, that I got tired of them before you had a chance to really get to know them.

As far as Y&R, I saw a spoiler picture that had Katherine in it. Now that is something that excites me. I hope it is a story for her and not just some passing stuff. I know she is getting on up in years, but I love when they show her.

  • Jeff

so excited to see that the list of characters for OLTL does NOT include Gigi, Rex, Tomas, or anyone of the FORD brothers. WHEW! The only character I will miss is Jessica.

If GH wants to spice it up a bit with some other OLTL characters, while John, Starr, and Todd are back at OLTL, perhaps they should borrow Kelly and Joey. Except have a great actor as Joey, something they haven’t had since Nathan Fillion. Or, have Kelly dumped Joey and reunited with Kevin. Gina is a phenomenal actress, and she would be a spitfire up against Connie or Carly. Get rid of useless Britt and put her in a triangle with Patrick and Joey or Kevin. Sabrina and Patrick makes me cringe. It’s like a little girl have a crush on a grown man. CREEPY! Or, have Fish come to town and be a love interest for Felix.
