Jeff…GH cannot legally bring on any OLTL characters without the approval or permission of Prospect Park, as long as that company leases the rights from ABC. That is why Prospect Park wants the OLTL characters already on GH to return to OLTL. However, the actors could opt to stay with GH, just in different roles. Talk about confusing for the fans. Todd Manning goes back to OLTL, but Roger Howarth stays on GH as a different character. What if OLTL2.0 is unsuccessful or Prospect Park lets the character return after several months?
Any other OLTL characters appearing on GH – at least while Prospect Park has the OLTL rights and the series is airing on The Online Network – is most likely a pipe dream.
I missed a few eps of Y&R but I see that Adam and Chelsea are still standing in front of that couch having the exact same conversation they’ve been having since around or before Christmas. Someone — please fix this show!
@Timsdale4ever, as you or someone stated recently the other message boards are railing on this current state of Y&R. It’s about 10-1 (viewers’ posts) that Y&R is a mess and that most storylines are NOT working. Sorry, Derrick, it’s just a matter of time before this mess has to be fixed — unless CBS and Sony let JFP and JG drive the show into the ground. I keep hearing about character-driven storylines, but what I’m seeing is character-forced storylines (the kind that come from wanting to be a rockstar and Easy Bake Ovens!) LOL So many viewers who were hopeful that the new regime would “fix” Y&R are now seeing that it’s not happening. Y&R has NEVER been this bad since I have been watching (from the beginning); CBS can spin the numbers (spin because these ratings fluctuate, often drastically, week-to-week) with PR, but the truth is that Y&R is BAD. JFP and JG have a chance to wow us with February sweeps. If they can’t, then chances are Y&R is stagnant and will not improve under the current regime. Derrick, don’t have a coronary, it’s just my (and many, many, MANY other viewer’s) opinion.
JFP and the Y&R writers need to realize that Y&R is NOT Revenge. That kind of writing will not work here. That said, the days of long, drawn out SLs are gone. Probably for good. The current viewers don’t have the attention span for that and choices for viewing are now unlimited, unlike past decades when longer stories played out because viewers were limited to 3 TV channels (I don’t even think we had 3 channels, BTW, even in the 1980s!) DOOL is far from perfect, but the build-up for the Will/Gabi/Nick baby SL was about perfect. That storyline had about as much build-up as today’s audience can take. BTW that SL came to a climax that was riveting! Y&R doesn’t have to be written like 1980 to be true to its history. Y&R needs to adapt and change or it’ll go the way of the P&G soaps once it loses it’s identity (and what made it special in the first place). Y&R itself is better than the schlock we’ll seeing from this regime. If all else fails, I expect we’ll see them begin to “copy” GH. Not a good idea.
BTW I cannot believe that some viewers think Nikki seeing Victor for what he is and wanting away from him would be a new storyline! How long have they been watching?! LML did this. MAB did this. Nikki has been stuck in the pin cycle for years! She needs a good rinse — and I’m not talking about her hair color!!!
Y&R nearing 5million viewers? General Hospital nearing 3 million? YES! I hope this means soaps are making a comeback and these ridiculous chat and cooking shows are going to start losing out! Now bring back AMC and OLTL to television!
Congrats to B&B! My fave show right now. Glad Dayzee is getting a storyline. Also, kind of enjoying Brooke sleazing around $Bill. I expect fireworks from Steffy’s pregnancy. Maybe that’ll be the push Hope needs to move on already! All those hot guys in L.A. Can you say, Liam who?!!
It’s almost 4 months since JG and JFP been on the helm. It still takes time. GH and Y&R are two DIFFERENT shows. Let them stay different. Y&R is doing better without GH!
It’s not action-packed or entertaining like GH.
Oh Derrick, I think I finally see why you love Y&R as it is NOW. Otherwise, I cannot make sense of your post. Y&R is doing better without GH?!! Your last line is the MOST telling. I hope Timsdale and others can see why you suddenly think Y&R is as GOOD AS GOLD! WTH do you mean Y&R is NOT action-packed or entertaining like GH?!! I will ignore YOU from now on. Do me a HUGE favor and do the same for me!
BTW I guess I’d have to agree that Y&R is NEITHER of those things right now. It has almost no “action” and it’s not being written to be “entertaining”. Still, Y&R doesn’t need to be written like it’s 1980 to be character-driven. Character-driven stories actually can have action, drama and even be entertaining. Right now Y&R is still flat-lining: It’s so bad, I have seen stick figures in more interesting storylines! Four months is enough time to get a show back on track or at least moving in the right direction, Y&R is doing neither. I do NOT want Y&R becoming GH 2.0, so JFP should STOP bring her GH buddies over every chance she gets: Steve Burton included! JMO
Derrick is right. Y&R is fine just as it is now. The new regime is making the show even better than ever, even better than GH
Y&R shouldn’t be action-filled or even that entertaining. It’s a thinking persons soap about business comedy (multiple firings and such). Y&R is like Another World now, and GH is like Passions, only better. Now GH is on the rise and will have a chance to be #1 again!
Y&R is ri-dunk-u-lus! (Get it?! Auntie RiRi’s Bug/Phyllis story is being brought back from the ded. Thought new HW got rid of old HWs stories. Now Bug is after Phil again. Thought that were ded. My friends thought so 2! I guess if things aren’t working, just bring back the old HWs story. HaHaHa! GH RULES!
Funny. I’m about to believe we’d have been better off with DelMar at Y&R. At least some of their DOOL storylines were entertaining. JG has no imagination – heck, he could make a stripper at a bachelorette party boring! As of right now, the Bug storyline is the most interesting one for me, but I cannot see where that can go that would be interesting or character-revealing. A civil suit would only mean Phyllis has to pay up if she loses, but she’s a Newman and has access to vast wealth – so I can’t see how this really accomplishes anything. Y&R is almost unwatchable, so I guess anything is better than what we’ve been getting.

ABC/FV is trying to work out a deal with PP. The actors do not have to go back to PP at all. PP wants them back. PP does have rights to the characters, but ABC has rights to the actors. So, ABC is trying to get PP to give back those characters after a certain amount of time, and then persuade the actors to go do OLTL for that amount of time, then they will be able to come back to GH as the characters they are now. Kind of like a favor from ABC to PP with 3 very popular actors from OLTL. Not sure what will happen if that doesn’t work out. It’s in PP’s and ABC’s best interests for GH to succeed and for OLTL and AMC to succeed. I am hoping they can come to some mutually beneficial arrangement. Like wrap up Todd and Starr story on OLTL. Personally, I would like John to stay at OLTL. I think Sam with AJ or Patrick or Todd would be much better than with John.

I also prefer Y and R and its current pace of storytelling. The show has never been about action and plot driven messes. The ratings don’t have to be “spun” as they are holding up well.
Today’s episode was one of the best since Josh started writing. Congrats and keep heading in the right direction!
When Phyllis ran over Paul and Cricket, that WAS action. Y&R has always been a blend of GOOD storytelling. Period. Right now it is a blend of LOTS of elements that do NOT connect.
If you look at the ratings, you can see that the ratings have been SPUN: Y&R 3.4/11 (same/-.2) If you understand ratings, Y&R is down 2 10ths of a point from the same time a year ago. So CBS is spinning the ratings.
CBS released a press release that was pure spin — Here was one of their stats: Y&R 1.4/9 (+.2/same) Again if you can read ratings, it is obvious that the ratings are exactly what they were a year ago. No improvement. The PR is bull–ht, just spin because the show is not doing that well.
Facts speak for themselves no matter how much you spin them.
Today’s episode was snoozefest, but yesterday was worse. So yes, sadly today was one of the show’s best under the new regime.
Pat, you are right. Y&R is supposed to be slow and boring. I don’t know why viewers are complaining. What do they expect?! GH?!! Ha! Soon GH will be where it belongs: #1! I agree with Pat and Derrick. Y&R has always been slowly paced … er … boring. How they get such decent ratings is beyond me! C’mon GH!
Well, then I’ll stop complaining and I’ll just stop watching! I could give GH a try since it’s so exciting now. I have watched in the past so I’d just be coming back. I guess I might as well give it a try.
