Here we go again. I guess Shoynna is going to rebut every person who says something positive about Y&R. He or she doesn’t like it, so there cannot possibly be anyone who likes it, now can there?

I stopped DVRing GH about a month ago because it was terrible and I actually don’t even miss it. That tells me all I need to know about the alleged greatness of Frank Valentini and Ron Carlivati. I doubt that GH is going to be #1 anytime soon, and even if it does becomes #1 (it has to get to #2 first) it will be because of audience losses at Y&R and B&B instead of any sort of “surge” by GH.

By the way…tear out the front page of every newspaper in the country! A TV network released a press release full of “spin”. Uh, that is why press releases exist. There is not one press release that does not contain some sort of spin…some have less spin (if the ratings are good and don’t need a lot of “massaging”) and some have to get creative (if the ratings are bad and the network is looking for anything to brag about). All of this talk about “spin” is nothing but “spin” itself…trying to sell your point of view to other people, namely that Y&R sucks hard and GH is just so great.

  2. Shoynna

    Jay, BURS!!!

  3. Shoynna

Glad you care what I do ;) Now GTHA!!! I’m done with Y&R and this forum. See ya biotch!!!

  4. Kelby

Y&R and DOOL still stink! Still not watching!

  5. JayTN

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, biotch!!!

Shoynna is the prime example of some people on this board who give lip service to letting people have opinions, yet are intolerant of other people’s opinions. For the record, I don’t care what you do…I don’t really care about anything that you do or what TV shows you watch. However, if you take the time to post not one, not two, but numerous redundant posts, then obviously you do care.

Just to level the playing field…GH sucks! Still not watching!

  6. JayTN

Also Shoynna, I would like to compliment you on your mature behavior. Telling people to GTHA (I have no clue what that – or BURS – means, although I have an idea about GTHA) is really mature for someone who claims to be in their 40s, since Y&R is 40 years old in March and you’ve been watching from the beginning.

  7. Pat

Why don’t we all just watch what we like? Too many people complaining on here. If you don’t like Y and R don’t watch. It has 4.5 mil that do. Get over yourselves.

What I find most funny is people who gripe about people saying anything negative about their favorite show but then will turn around and heap all kind of negative remarks on another soap opera.

If the only way you can prove that your show is good is by making another show look bad then to me you haven’t accomplished anything at all.

I will never understand where some of you get that Y&R esp. in the past has been anything but entertaining. Y&R over the years has had even it’s campy moments, and yes it has had some long drawn out stories, but one thing I can say is that esp. up to the early 2000′s Y&R was anything but unentertaining. And the fact that it has been the number 1 soap opera for years and years proves that alone.

I’m not pleased with everything on Y&R now. I do see some improvement and I am not fast forwarding through as much as I did a month ago. But it still has a long way to go before I will be happy with it. But even with all that just seeing promos and stuff from the other 2 shows (I already watch B&B) I don’t see anything that makes me want to pick them back up at any point. If I was to quit watching Y&R for now I would just watch B&B unless something changed. B&B even with the tired concept of the triangle is still the one soap that consistently entertains me.

How does a network “spin” ratings? They are what they are and, regardless of the bickering on here, Y&R still pulls in impressive numbers.

  10. Derrick

    DAMN STRAIGHT, Shoynna

  11. Mike

Jonboy, Things like boasting the 18-34 numbers when a show falls in other areas. Or even when a show’s ratings drop they will put out press releases boasting that the show beat another in a particular demo.

They spin it by focusing on something good to keep folks from looking at the minuses.

The networks have done it for years. I can’t remember which show it was but recently a primetime special got it’s lowest ratings in 3 years but from the press releases that the network released you wouldn’t have known it. They made it sound like they set a record.

The numbers spin is an easy way for the networks to generate buzz without having to pay for it. They write the releases and then send them out to websites and magazines, etc. and they print them. Many blame the websites but it is the spin doctors at the sites who write those press releases.

Now what you have here is just a report that Soap Opera Network does reporting the numbers. They are what they are, but the network press releases are spin based on the numbers.

I couldn’t agree with you more, @Cab. Days certainly is must-see tv and never fails to keep us watching! I cannot get enough of it! I knew DOOL would continue on past 2013 despite what all the Negative Nellies here were saying. Now I love to say to them: Told you so! Go Days…you remain the BEST soap on tv!

  13. Kayla Rae

@JayTN, you are so right about nasty Shoynna. I definitely agree with you. And I am in sync with you about GH as well. I keep trying to watch it but just cannot get through a full episode. Ugh! That Spinelli character REALLY irritates me…he needs to GO already!

DOOL, on the other hand, rocks! Days knows how to do it right!

  14. Reality

I agree about all the negativity and complainers. If you dont like a show the QUIT WATCHING!! That simple. Life goes on… SoOme people here can dish it, but cetainly cannot take it. I only watch GH now. Quit watching DOOL since it became slow and boring to me. That is my opinion and I quit watching it. That gives me an hour more per day to do something else.

  15. Kayla Rae

It certainly is true that some people here can dish it out but cannot take it. That said, it certainly is valid to express one’s opinions on various shows. Sharing our individual perspectives and opinions is what this forum is all about. We shouldn’t pretend to like something if we don’t. By all means, say what you like AND what you don’t like for sure.

For example, in my opinion, GH is mostly a bore and continues to disappoint. I’m glad to hear that Laura is returning as that can only help this dreary show. On the other hand, DOOL continues to please me with its quality acting and story writing. Days is on fire!

  16. JayTN

Just to add…I agree that people should be able to express their opinions, but some people on here tend to do more than that…they either 1) make people who hold alternate or opposing opinions out to be idiots, or 2) attempt to turn people around to their line of thinking. If you don’t like Y&R then by all means do not watch it. My only complaint is do you have to reply to every positive comment with a negative one or post the same old complaints over and over again? As a general rule – unless someone responds to my comment – I tend to make a comment and then move on other topics.

  17. JayTN

To comment on storyline for a moment, am I the only one who gets the feeling that Nick on “Days” is going to be at the center of a “Who Killed Nick?” storyline? He seems to be turning a lot of people against him (Will, Sami, Justin, Sonny, Chad, EJ, etc.) and had an odd reaction when Will asked him if he was crazy/insane. Also, what is his fixation with wanting to get married? Personally, I think Nick comes across as schizophrenic…one minute I like the character, but the next minute I cannot stand him.

“Days” does get some credit in my book for expanding the “gay storyline” to more than just who the gay person dates. Soap writers seem unable to come up with storylines for these characters that don’t focus on their love lives. Even ATWT, which got good reviews for its Luke/Noah storyline in its final years, had trouble writing for the two characters when they were apart from each other. The GH writers didn’t know what to do with Lucas (Bobbi Spencer’s son) when he came out, so they quickly kicked him off the canvas never to be seen again…after he and his boyfriend/lover broke up.

  18. jonboyelk

@Jay Well said! Kayla, for one, is like a recurring hemmoroid. We get it: you think Days is the greatest thing since Gone With the Wind and GH is like a b-movie to you. We’ve read it ad nauseum. Think of something new to post or refrain.

  19. Chrisann D

I have been enjoying Days more than I used to. I think the Will and Sonny
story is getting interesting. I do think that Nick is really REALLY creepy.

Gh keeps getting better and better. I hope that down the line that the Todd and John charactures can stay at GH. Expecially Todd. I have always like how Roger H played him.
Glad all the soaps are doing well.

  20. Sophie

I quit watching Days after the olympics. I’ve tried to watch about 4-5 times. It’s so slow and boring I just can’t get into it. I thought having Kristen back would help, but the pair her with BORING BRADY! GH is a must see tv. I can’t miss a show. It’s the best it’s been in years and the ratings show! Days was beating GH a year ago in ratings, but hasn’t since the Olympics!
