Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

@steven I wasn’t entirely surprised either and agree with you about possible overlap with Glee & Grey’s. Also, this was the first episode of the season that didn’t go up against an NFL game so that may have helped. For once, this was a heavily promoted episode since it featured cameos by Newt Gingrich and some Indianapolis football & basketball players, so that’s another possible factor in the rise. I’m curious to see how it does next week when Two and a Half Men is new, though I can’t see it performing any worse than the 1.7 it had been getting in the post-Office slot. But we’ll see!

Be stupid to air Arrow and TVD together. They both do fantastic why mess up a good thing?

  • rob60990

LOL at ScanDULL dropping against practically NO competition and tanking a juicy 3 tenths in its half hour.

Grey’s did fine against Idol. Hopefully it adjusts up to a 3.0.

Not a bad drop for Idol but God is Nicki awful. She said yes to a guy because she thought he was cute. Randy said no and Mariah said yes because she felt bad. What a mess. I’m not surprised FOX is doing more 2 hour editions so far than last year to try to make up for their year to year losses all around.

Great for Vampire Diaries. What a waste of the lead-in though.

  • John A

You should do a poll for Nikita’s Return.

  • John A

Do people have to make fun of a show thats doing well? I dont like Scandal but its doing very well out of Grey’s right now. No need to be like MAX people.

  • Jason

It might be flat with last year’s rating, but when The Big Bang Theory returns with new episodes, Idol’s ratings are bound to plunge.

  • Ateofi

Thanks for very interesting data on ratings for various age groups. I ma surprised a bit that Elementary has only 2.38 ratings for demo 18-49. Also, concerning H50, demo numbers will change after the special episode which will air this sunday after AFC championship football.

  • Suan

The Idol vs TBBT doesn’t make sense to me. We are comparing a half hour show against an hour & sometimes 2 hour show. If TBBT had comparable screen time, I would get much more excited about the ratings, now, not so much. We are comparing apples and oranges.

  • Angelsgal

CW really need to look at their entire line up. Against idol The vampire diaries and Arrow rated 1.4 and 1.1 respectivly and supernatural did 0.9. Meanwhile the rest of their line up struggles to pull over 0.6 against less competition. TVD also gas Big Bang and still does above 1.2.

  • Richard Steven Hack

Last Resort made even less sense than usual. No surprise it’s canceled. Autumn Reeser still the best thing about the show, next to Andre.

TVD was pretty good. Rebecca was great. Looking forward to the appearance of “Elias” at some point. Not sure whether that means the show turns into “The Walking Dead”, however, which would be very, very bad. Anyone confused by how Tyler did NOTHING after Klaus kills his momma? Or how he managed to suddenly turn back without hurting anyone after the whole point was he was supposed to kill them all? Some weird writing, there.

  • david

TVD was great last night. 666 pen will not last with allready being at a 1.2. Scandle still doing great for ABC.

  • Cj morton

Woah! Only .1 less in the repeats than the original for Carrie Diaries!?!

  • sarah nz

    @ Petar and Serene.

I agree for the most part with what Serene on page 10 wrote in regards to spin-off’s.

PoI is not owned by CBS, they are more lkely to want Elementry to improve (hence the Superbowl) than want a PoI spinoff. They have the rumored 3rd NCIS spin-off for next season as a priority than PoI in my opinion.

I can’t actually find any real hard evidence a 3rd NCIS is more than an idea/proposal floating around from Shane Brennanon entertainment sites – a quick search brings up nothing more current than November 2012. Have they shot the episode that introduces the 3rd show via NCISLA yet ?

I don’t believe that they will move PoI next season, especially for Elementry – but then I’m not a network scheduler and biased towards PoI ;)

I don’t actaully see Jonah Nolan or Greg Plageman having the time for a 2nd show and keep the quality excellent for both shows. I know you are famous as the super crazy poi fan here and elsewhere but this may go the same way of your other suggestions :)

@ Vanessa, It’s all up to interpretation but I think Sarah Shahi will be more of a Simmons/Zoe/Root/Kara/Snow/Elias type role than permanent role like Bear. Season 3 is still not confirmed (can’t see how they won’t renew) and too far away to know what JN/GP have planned. Enjoy your season 1 dvd’s.

@ Richard S. Hack – Last Resort is a mess more and more as episode come along. Some parts that actually make sense and are good overshadowed by really bad soap opera scenes and dialogue.
Will watch the the final episode and now hope as someone posted on a forum that the whole island explodes with 1 piece of debris making it’s way to Singapore/HongKong and kills the XO’s presumed dead wife. Maybe let Emoseal and Kylie live.

  • noob

Idol needs a year or two off tv. Then bring it back with a huge retool to bring its ratings back up.

  • MichaelChickless

@Vanessa S. “Ah, man, I was JUST getting into Person of Interest and even bought Season 1 (delivered just last week) so I could catch up. Now they’re adding Sarah Shahi? I’m afraid this is going to throw off the dynamic that attracted me to finally get interested. It might ruin things–I’ve seen it happen time and time again.”

Like the second season of Human Target?

  • Carol

Grey’s was not strong against repeats of POI. Loosing steam?

  • luisl

    @Richard Steven Hack

If they do zombies they should be like the ones in Supernatural episode 2×04.

  • Vanessa S.

@MichaelChickless Yes, that is one example.
