Predict the Ratings for the Premiere of 'The Following' - Poll

Tonight The Following, one of this season's most anticipated new shows, premieres on FOX. It has a lot going for it: an A-list cast (Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy) and showrunner (Kevin Williamson). On the other hand, the ratings for all of FOX's freshman series this season have been fairly dismal. The premise -- a serial killer with a cult of followers who will kill at his request -- may be too dark for broadcast television.  So how will it do? On Monday, January 17, 2012, the two hour premiere of Alcatraz garnered a 3.3 adults 18-49 rating, while The Following's immediate timeslot predecessor, The Mob Doctor premiered to a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating on September 17, 2012. Make your prediction below then explain your reasoning, and how many degrees of separation you are from Kevin Bacon, in the comment section.

For a lot of people, setting their DVR means that they’ll watch it live anyway because come 9pm, their TV will automatically switch to this show which they may have forgotten about if they hadn’t set their DVRs to record it.

  • Gomer

I will be the outlier and say 4.4 ratings and 12.7 million. Fox is hoping and praying for a hit after a dismal season.

  • Ashley

I’m hoping for 3.5 or above. Kevin Bacon is an excellent actor and given a good script, this could be a home-run like 24. However, if it’s more like Touch, then we’re in trouble. I think it’ll be good. Fox needs to have a hit show somewhere b/c everything they have now sucks.

I have watched a lot of Fox shows over the years, just to watch them circle the drain after airing anywhere from a few episodes to an entire season. I am going to pass on this, and I don’t think I will be the only one. I put it in the 2.5 range, though I am probably a bit low on that. Still, I haven’t had a lot of luck watching serials on Fox or any other network for that matter. I would be more likely to give the show a chance if they were stand alone episodes.

I think people are gonna love this show. 3.0 or higher easy.

  • Tony ^_^

Anything less than a 3.0 will be disappointing considering the amount of promotion.

  • Chuck Finley (AJ)

    3.6 – Because it’s Kevin Bacon

  • bluejays

I think it will do about a three. And then fall slightly but not a lot, until The Voice comes back and all the other nets once again get slammed on a Monday night.

Oh my Bacon number is three. George H.W. Bush was the speaker at my University graduation and I talked to him for a minute or so.

George H. W. Bush and Sean Penn appeared in War Made Easy: How Presidents & Pundits Keep Spinning Us to Death.
Sean Penn and Kevin Bacon appeared in Mystic River.

The Following, one of this season’s most anticipated new shows,

    What a terrible season.

Its seems like the polls have been very optimistic on shows lately.
2.5 FOX has had no success this year and this will be no different. Mixed reviews on show.

  • Kevin

2.8 – there is a lot of competition on Mondays – degrees of separation……none………..we were both born in Philadelphia!

  • Mike

    3,2/3.3

  • Hugh

    I have no idea. 2.5

Although I can see it doing high threes and settling around 3.0 for the season ala Criminal Minds

  • Richard Steven Hack

I won’t bother to guess the rating, but I have read a number of negative reviews of the show by critics.

Sara’s comment that it might be “too dark” for broadcast is quite possible, given the reviews so far.

I may check it out, but given it’s mostly a crime drama I’m not sure I’ll be compelled – although the Edgar Allen Poe connection might perk my interest.

  • Bitter Ringer Fan

i would say something between 3.4 to 3.6

  • Lisa

A 3.2. It’s received great reviews, which I think will help, and I see people tuning in out of curiosity.

  • Charles

I think that it will start anywhere from a 3.0-3.3.

Even after all this time,I mad at Fox for cancelling Lie to Me,Chicago Code, and Human Target, but in particular Tim Roth;s show. They are now a cursed network in my mind. The Following will flop. They should have built and supported what they had.
