Tonight The Following, one of this season's most anticipated new shows, premieres on FOX. It has a lot going for it: an A-list cast (Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy) and showrunner (Kevin Williamson). On the other hand, the ratings for all of FOX's freshman series this season have been fairly dismal. The premise -- a serial killer with a cult of followers who will kill at his request -- may be too dark for broadcast television. So how will it do? On Monday, January 17, 2012, the two hour premiere of Alcatraz garnered a 3.3 adults 18-49 rating, while The Following's immediate timeslot predecessor, The Mob Doctor premiered to a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating on September 17, 2012. Make your prediction below then explain your reasoning, and how many degrees of separation you are from Kevin Bacon, in the comment section.

meh it only deserved 1.6 or less, very lame.. another dud in true fox style! they probably should just bring back 24, sure it was stupid but at least people watched
Marc Berman is reporting the overnights for The Following as 6.7/10 in HH, up 10% from Alcatraz last season, while Carrie Diaries fell 15% and Deception fell 20%.
Show was well acted and suspenseful, but the premise is a bit much.
The is one of the first TV shows that I have watch Live in a very long time. To me it was overly violent and gruesome. Not sure how that plays out. It was well done and acted and reminded much more of watching a movie over a TV show. Surprised me at what they got away with on Broadcast TV.
The promise during the commercials of 14 straight weeks of new content was great to see.
I had originally guessed 2.8-2.9 but think I might be low.
Interesting to see the numbers.
Also interesting to see the results of them advertising viewer to DVR it and it that makes a difference when the DVR results are added in.
I see this following the same eventual cancellation path as Alcatraz, so I am not bothering to watch it.
3.0 – It was okay. I just don’t think it’s going to hold my attention week after week.

Better than I thought….
Like most of the Fox shows it’ll get a really good ratings start then it’ll tank fast.
@KarenM
That also happens to every other new show per network.
Saw the pilot.
Well made, acting was okay, but I will not watch. The theme and images are too graphic and gory and it was dragged on too much. It’s kinda “Criminal Minds”, but in that show there are a few well-liked actors, and the cases are interesting (not just gory.)
I’m sure the show will find an audience, but it’s not for me.

I think that James Purefoy has a following of his own.

3.2-3.3
I see my arch rival AppleStinx is scared to give his prediction.
@Hillbilly
Wait for the final numbers before you unwrap your sharp tongue.
