Due to the nature of live programming the ratings for CBS (NFL Football and Hawaii Five-0) are approximate and subject to more than the typical adjustments in the final numbers. See below for more information on these Fast Affiliate Ratings.
On CBS, NFL Football: Ravens at Patriots scored a preliminary 14.6 adults 18-49 rating from 7-10PM. Update: A special episode of Hawaii Five-0 earned a Time-Zone Adjusted Fast National 3.4 adults 18-49 rating. This number is unlikely to change significantly in the finals. Check the finals, which probably will not be available until Wednesday this week due to the MLK holiday, for accurate football numbers.
On ABC, America's Funniest Home Videos garnered a 1.3 adults 18-49 rating down 7% from last week's 1.4. Once Upon A Time earned a season low 2.4, down 14% from last week's 2.8 adults 18-49 rating. Your predictions were too optimistic. Revenge scored a season low 1.7 among adults 18-49 down 15% from last week’s 2.0.

Definitions:
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)
Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

@chezmoi – I think right now CBS are trying to improve the ratings of ALL their ten pm shows. Unlike the haters – anyone with clear thinking can see that HFO is doing the same as their other ten pm offerings. Which is pretty low for CBS – even taking season to season drops into account. Last year CBS ruled the ten pm slot and this year its struggling to get any hits like Revolution (or Scandal is possibly building to be). Elementary, HFO and CSI are bunched together leading the pack but none of them get stellar ratings. I expect CBS just want any one of their ten pm shows to pull ahead of the pack and do well.
On the last few months ratings though HFO is in no more danger than Elementary or CSI.
@toons
lived with this for 8 years with desp housewives… almost every year the series started strong in the fall… got crushed by football, pre emptions, grammys, oscar break… and always lost an audience that never came back…
You lived in complete denial for 8 years? Why did you stop when the show was canceled?
Season 1 – ended on series high
Season 2 – January high on championship weekend; did worse the week after the Grammy’s that against them; up from that point for the finale
Season 3 – both February airings had the same rating, was up from that for the post Academy Awards episode
Season 4 – writer’s strike
Season 5 – again both February airings had the same rating and it was up from that in March
Season 6 – alternate schedule due to Olympics, but from 17 January through 14 March, the five airings had virtually identical ratings
Season 7 – post Academy Awards episode had higher ratings than previous 3 episodes
Season 8 – barring dips against big events, ratings were flat from midseason on
I think what you saw was the fall to spring decline that every show faces and the season to season decline that every show faces (which for serial dramas also lacks the syndication bump that sitcoms and procedurals can get).
It had nothing to do with how ABC scheduled the show.
@Cath
Wonder what they are running against the Super Bowl?
Current counterprogramming schedule for Super Sunday…
FOX – normal lineup
NBC – two hours of Betty White, first of four Best of SNL clip shows (not even new versions of the clip shows…)
ABC – two hours of AFHV, TBD at 9pm, an hour Modern Family at 10pm
Obviously the Grammys are going to hurt revenge, however there is no point in saying they are going to do the same damage as last year! The Grammys were incredibly high last year due to Whitney houstons death and it was something like the most watched Grammys in over 30 years! Obviously it won’t be as high this year but it will still do damage!
@Cath
Wonder no more:
ABC, February 3, 2013
7:00PM American’s Funniest Home Video (R)
8:00PM American’s Funniest Home Video (R, special time)
9:00PM Shark Tank (R, special night)
10:00PM Modern Family (R, special night/time)
10:30PM Modern Family (R, special night/time)
@Blake
Isn’t that exactly what people were complaining about last year?
Yes!
That’s why it is so funny. Everyone is begging for the Revenge schedule that they so loathed a year ago!
I’m sorry but…
you have an event that sucked 41 million people with a 14.6 rating, OF COURSE it impacted the whole evening, Once and Revenge included! I don’t understand any other interpretation of the results…
@Ultima
“That’s why it is so funny. Everyone is begging for the Revenge schedule that they so loathed a year ago!”
While its true ABC just can’t please everyone whether they have a long hiatus, spotty episodes placement or program against big events, it’s likely different people complaining in each case.
@bluejays
I agree with you about the writting and some unnecessary retooling of the show done in season 2. By the way how did you like yesterday episode? For me it was one of the best and I am surprised with such low ratings.
Hasn’t anyone figured out that Max is most likely someone that works at tvbythenumbers? He is always one of the first, if not the first to post every Monday. He gets the post attention. It’s a well played ploy on TVBN part to draw traffic and get people riled up/excited.
It’s hilarious to see people posting that heavy competition is the only reason Revenge is falling. Months ago when Max predict that, all you Revenge fans was calling him stupid. Now you act like this decline in the ratings was obvious.
Wow, a 3.4 is really bad for H50. It managed to get low 3′s in its Monday timeslot last season, now it can only do that with a 14.6 lead-in!
It won’t get cancelled because of syndication around the corner and has recovered somewhat from it’s poor season start to become one of CBS’s best 10pm performers, but I can’t see CBS being happy with this rating.
Elementary should do better in its post-superbowl slot but the writing is on the wall for CBS – the 18-49 demographic interested in procedurals are ageing out of the targeted demo – even if viewers remain static, A18-49 will drop year on year. They can push A25-54 and then A34-54 after that but they move further and further away from the C+3 proxy then…
No Revenge WILL be renewed. Its not doing horribly and it dipped on one night.
ANd yes it was because of football because why watch Revenge live when you could just DVR it and watch football live? I DVRed Revenge because there isn’t going to be another new ep until Feb 10 so I can wait a few days to watch it. Football people want to watch live so while Revenge did lose its audience it doesnt mean they wont come back.
@Ateofi. I’ve not seen it yet. I’ve got a few eps on the DVR. I’ve got so much stuff backed up. HFO, The Killing (the European one, which is way better), Homeland, Revenge and Walking Dead and am behind on them all. But I do think it is getting better again. However the end of season two was pretty bad (except for the penultimate ep which should have been the finale) and the first couple of eps of season three were bad. The whole Wo Fat escape and Steve’s mom stuff left me cold. Right now I watch for Alex and Grace and Scott and the scenery and will always watch while they are in the show.
@Agnes. Your post is bang on the money. All of their ten pm shows are doing the same or worse than HFo and the fact is that people are getting tired of procedurals. It’s not just CBS, Castle and BoP and SVU can’t get anything like the numbers that they used to get. There’s probably just too many of them on tv right now.
@Dan
Yeah, Revenge is doing horribly. People was expecting it to be the next big hit on ABC. GCB was pulling similar ratings last season at 10, for God sakes.
I think ABC should start repeating ONCE and Revenge on a Friday while football and awards are on so fans who don’t watch online can catch up. Otherwise if fans fall behind they may give up on the series completely and therefore these low ratings may be a regular thing
If people are getting tired of cop shows, do you know why the CBS execs keep picking up cop shows each year?
I see they deleted my post about Max being an account set up by TVBN to attract traffic, fans of revenge to the site, get people talking, etc. Seems I was correct.
ABC Should quit programming originals against the Golden Globes and Championship football games.. What is next Abc… Are you going to air all new episodes against the Superbowl?
Although, I hear Revenge Season two has slipped in writing/storylines compared to S1, The ratings drop the last 2 eps are primarily due to highly rated cbs programming for the championship series and the Golden Globes which increased in demo and audience with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler both which did an outstanding job especially when comparing to the stupid guy that did it the year before..
Revenge is trending downwards, however I expect them to hit in low 2′s for the rest of the season against regular season programming. The low ratings last night and last week, In my opinion is not considered Fan Excuse Bingo.. If Once upon a Time hit a series low and Revenge hit a series low then it is legit it was effected by major competition…
I hope abc can rebound on Sunday nights.. ABC needs all the strong or solid perfomers it can get.. Scandal has improved greatly, Nashville demo has been on an uprise and had its best ratings since the premiere! Maybe Body of Proof can hit low 2 to mid 2s and be solid as well? I think Revenge is more suited for a 10 PM Slot, not 9:00!!!!
@Ultima
I don’t know if you’re serious, but networks purposely classify those episodes as specials, which do not count in the average rating calculation at the end of the season.
