Due to the nature of live programming the ratings for CBS (NFL Football and Hawaii Five-0) are approximate and subject to more than the typical adjustments in the final numbers. See below for more information on these Fast Affiliate Ratings.

On CBS, NFL Football: Ravens at Patriots scored a preliminary 14.6 adults 18-49 rating from 7-10PM. Update: A special episode of Hawaii Five-0 earned a Time-Zone Adjusted Fast National 3.4 adults 18-49 rating. This number is unlikely to change significantly in the finals. Check the finals, which probably will not be available until Wednesday this week due to the MLK holiday, for accurate football numbers.

On ABC, America's Funniest Home Videos garnered a 1.3 adults 18-49 rating down 7% from last week's 1.4. Once Upon A Time earned a season low 2.4, down 14% from last week's 2.8 adults 18-49 rating. Your predictions were too optimistic.  Revenge scored a season low 1.7 among adults 18-49 down 15% from last week’s 2.0.

Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

Well I for one am glad that CBS put H50 on last night, it was a great episode, and its the only show I would have watched. I don’t watch any other procedurals on CBS (unless I can’t sleep!) so it kept me tuned to CBS.
I bet that once upon a time gets a big DVR bounce, all the women who usually watch it had to put up with football last night, and they can catch it this week…

  • Shepherd

NM, i see 10:16 now. only saw after 10 previously.

  • Mark

Oh well, maybe those big wheels in ABC thought their new episodes can beat NFL ….

  • Hopeful

Yeah, this is ridiculous. ABC schedules two heavily serialized dramas against the Golden Globes. Then, it schedules them against the second biggest football game of the year. This makes no sense at all.

Now, they aren’t back to Feb 10th! I guess I should be happy they didn’t try to counter-program against the freaking Super Bowl. I wouldn’t have put it past ABC considering all the bone-headed decisions they’ve made. (EX: Airing a new episode of Revenge the night before Thanksgiving.)

I’ll be interested in seeing the Live+7 numbers in a couple of weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised to see larger than normal gains.

    “How inflated are H50?s numbers?”

Very difficult for me to guess the H50 final numbers because of the conflicting factors in the adjustments.

In the East/Central 15min of the preliminary 10pm hour ratings were football post game which was highly rated, but in the West the entire 10pm hour was local programming, which was likely very low rated.

Edit: Guessing no longer required, H50 had a 3.4 adults 18-49 rating in the time zone adjusted fast nationals which are likely very close to the final ratings. Now in the post.

  • Blake

Good lord, these hysterical comments about ABC’s scheduling practices are hilarious.

  • Dan S

I’m not surprised by Revenges weak numbers last night. I think the show is in need of major retooling & moved back to 10pm next season. I could easily see the new Shield plugged in at 9pm following OUAT & Revenge at 10pm. Agreed ABC needs to stop programming against big events to avoid seeing their most popular shows get crushed pulling down their season average. H50 should get their best Mon rating tonight going against a weakened Castle & fading Deception.

  • Petar Ivanov

Only reasonable explanation why cbs put h5o there is that they want to stay that show on monday at 10. If cbs move h5o on friday or even sunday after this season they will look so stupid. But even to stay there was dump move.

  • Shepherd

TY Bill and Ultima for replies.

  • Ultima

    @jimmy
Apparently, both QUAT and Revenge return the night of the Grammy’s. More brilliant scheduling ABC.

You’ll probably be shocked to learn that FOX is also airing originals that night.

There are four Sundays during February sweeps and The Grammy’s are actually the second easiest…

  • Dan

Well Revenge and OUAT hit lows bc of football. It May be fan excuse bingo but its the truth. Once Football ends Both dramas will rise.

  • John A

I highly doubt Revenge will drop again agaisnt grammys if it does then definitly deserves to be canned.

  • Ultima

    @Hopeful
Airing a new episode of Revenge the night before Thanksgiving

How is programming the night before or the night of Thanksgiving boneheaded?

They get to crank up the ad rates due to time sensitive black friday advertisements.

  • Nick

    :( @ Once & Revenge

I guess they didn’t do too bad. The problem is, now that they’ve run straight through the fall, we’re going to hve that stupid on 1 week-off 3 weeks thing. Man, these dramas can’t catch a break.

  • DenverDean

I won’t go through all six pages to find out if anyone else has mentioned this by H50 did NOT have the AFC Championship as lead-in. The game finished, then trophy presentation, post-game and then about 5-8 minutes more of commercials. I believe there was a 20-30 minute lag time between end of game and H50 starting.

  • Skylar James

    ABC is stupid.

Golden Globes? Yes lets air new episodes
NFL Playoffs? Yes lets air new episodes
    Normal sunday? No, hiatus
Grammys? Perfect Sunday to return with new episodes…

  • Marge

Pretty low numbers for the championship game no? But what a HUGE drop for H50 and it’ll drop even more in the finals. CBS definitely needs to consider their options next season.

  • Ultima

    @Nick
we’re going to hve that stupid on 1 week-off 3 weeks thing

    What?!

That’s exactly what people are complaining about!

They WANT ABC to do the 1 week on, 3 off thing!

They’re NOT doing that, which involves airing episodes against big events…

  • frodo

    @ Ultima

Obviously I know what officially means and while it may not be officially canceled as of yet, Episode 13 is against the Grammys which was the program that most effected ABC’s Sunday line up last year, Revenge fell to a 1.7 that is a second low in two weeks, Revenge should now be a toss up. From a few episodes ago that Revenge was getting a 2.8 in the demo to a 1.7 that is just horrible, its a collapse.

  • THE OLD MAN

    @ Blake

I couldn’t agree with you more!

A 2.4 won’t affect OUAT season avrg that much nor will 1.7 Revenge (I’m sure there will be an asterick re: playoffs included)

Trashing the ABC brass is mind boggling!
