Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    Jane, when I said pair it with TVD, I meant, I wonder what the ratings would have been if the show had premeired after TVD. Of course it’s going to be a low number for TCD since it already premiered that Monday. But we’ve seen shows like Fringe, The Office, and 90210 (regardless of what night it was last season. Haha) that boost an entire ratings point (Fringe!). So I still have some small hopes for this show. Especially since 90210′s ratings are lower and since GG is ending. And depending on how Cult premeires, there is still a small chance on the show returning. But it really all lies in the dvr ratings. I know it probably won’t happen, but, I’m hoping for the best.

  • Shaun P.

    Woah I’m really shocked at TCD :( it’s such a good show! I love 90210 too, but TCD is way better. If TCD maintains a 0.5 for the season, would it get renewed?

  • Tyler Durden

    So Following will get canceled cos other fox shows did too.
    Great logic…

  • PhilipM

    If H5O doesn’t get back to that 2.4-2.6 range again and stays in the low 2s instead, it will once again be the show most likely to move to either Friday or Sunday. CBS would probably keep it there for quite some time due to its syndication deal. A 2.2 is okay, but it’s just not good enough on Monday, especially now without competition from either Revolution or football. Monday at 10:00 PM is no longer a particularly challenging timeslot and H5O will have to deliver from now on to remain where it is.

    I think CW will renew Hart of Dixie,cause they can’t cancel everything…unless by miracle Beauty and the Beast survives…but both of them won’t

  • Mon

    @Ram510
    I see you don’t watch 2BG, yet you bash it anyway. There hasn’t been a vagina joke since a few handful episodes in season 1. In the season 2 premiere, Max (the lead character in case you don’t know) heard a bunch of ladies talking about vagina in the diner so she said that vagina is not her word anymore and that she’s done with it.

  • robin

    lol I can’t wait to see cult’s premiere numbers

  • Bri

    The Following ratings were ok. Watched it and was not impressed, lots of elements taken from Criminal Minds, Silence of the Lambs, even (I’m told as I do not watch) The Mentalist! May watch the next episode if only for James Purefoy but I doubt this will be appointment TV for me.

    As usual even in rerun The Big Bang Theory did great! Even did better than the much hyped The Following.

    As for H50, that show is I’m afraid bound for either Friday or Sunday.

  • halloween

    cw may have been better off renewing secret circle for 13 episodes…likely do no worse than TCD or emily owens

  • bluejays

    @Petar Ivanov

    Yes some shows do get higher numbers on a weekly basis but they aren’t on at ten. Last week CSI got a 2.3 and Elementary a 2.4 and HFO a 2.4. All other ten pm CBS shows got less. It’s right up in the midst of the pack.

    The issue is that no one slates CSI week after week like they do HFO. No one slates Elementary and yet week after week HFO gets slated and does the same as these shows or better.

    If you slate HFO you’ve got to slate CSI etc or you’re just being the usual nutcases who hate on certain shows for odd – and insane – reasons.

    Agreed. These ratings are poor and they are hard to explain, because the overall viewership is like last week but demo is down!

  • Just

    In light of H50′s huge rating drop in one day, don’t think Superbowl will boost Elementary’s ratings much.

    CBS might be better off to go with a promising young show like POI on Super Night imho.

  • Mon

    Maybe CW should pickup more male-skewing shows like Arrow and Supernatural which are doing really well for the network. TCD and 90210 look dead.

  • Rick Wright

    Dillan, 13 episode renewals for an upcoming season are for veteran shows, Carrie Diaries just started. This show just isn’t working.

  • NewEnglandMike

    @Mon

    They can’t kill Wo Fat…at least not yet. The show has to pay some homage to the original series (Wo Fat would always get away). I’ll continue to watch the show (as I was a big fan of the original series) since it’s fun and features really great scenery but it is disappointing that the scripts are so weak that fine actors like Daniel Dae Kim who was fantastic on “Lost,” and even Scott Caan, who was great on “Entourage” can’t shine through. I do like the comic relief provided by Masi Oka, though.

    CBS won’t cancel this show for a few years but I could see them moving it to Sunday or even Friday.

  • Spence

    The Carrie Diaries didn’t drop much. I’ll give it another try.
    Deception is done. There is no way that show is going to get renewed.
    Let’s see how The Following does next week, but for now… great ratings!

  • bluejays

    @PhilipM – Yes they could move HFO for its 2.2 but equally they could move CSI for it’s 2.3 last week!!!!

    This is my point and it is valid and based on facts. None of the ten pm shows are doing well and they all ‘deserve’ to move to Friday or Sunday. CBS can’t move them all. Personally I’d be quite happy with CBS moving HFO to Friday. I could see it lasting a few years there. But don’t pretend it’s because it’s doing any worse than CSI or Elementary because the last few weeks up to this one it’s done better!

  • omabin

    I agree, the CW should give up on these teen shows altogether. Next year, these nights should be reduced to one!

    CW Schedule For Next Year:
    Monday
    Hart of Dixie
    America’s Next Top Model (Fall)/Final Season 90210 (Winter and Spring)

    Tuesday
    The Selection
    Wonder Woman

    Wednesday
    Arrow
    Supernatural

    Thursday
    The Vampire Diaries
    The Originals

    Friday
    Nikita
    Wonder Woman – R

    @ Bill

    Are you waiting until tomorrow for the Renew/Cancel Index or next week?

    I’m in the deep freeze, so I’ll be around tomorrow to make you happy (I’m Sure)!

    @bluejays
    Petar is crazy about POI. On Thursday I think 2 weeks ago, he posted how wonderful POI episode was on every single page. There seems to be an odd rivalry between POI and H50 fans recently.
