TV Ratings Tuesday: Decent Start for 'The Taste', 'New Girl' & 'Private Practice' Up, 'Parenthood' Down, 'Go On' & 'The New Normal' Hit Lows

ABC was the number one network in adults 18-49 while CBS was on top with total viewers.

On ABC the two hour series premiere of The Taste earned a 2.2 adults 18-49 rating up 5 percent from a 2.1 for the season premiere of Dancing with the Stars in the time period last fall. The series finale of Private Practice garnered a 1.5, up 25 percent from last week's 1.2 adults 18-49 rating. Your predictions were about right.

On FOX, Raising Hope scored a 1.7, up 6 percent from last week's 1.6 adults 18-49 rating. Ben And Kate earned a 1.2, up 9 percent from last week's 1.1 adults 18-49 rating. New Girl garnered a 2.1, up 11 percent from last week's 1.9 adults 18-49 rating. The Mindy Project notched 1.5 among adults 18-49, even with last week.

On NBC, Betty White’s Off Their Rockers garnered a 1.6 at 8PM, up 7 percent from last week's 1.5 Adults 18-49 rating. A second episode at 8:30 notched a 1.8 adults 18-49 rating, even with last week. Go On earned a season low 1.3, down 24 percent from last week's 1.7 adults 18-49 rating. The New Normal scored a season low 1.2 down 14 percent from last week's 1.4 adults 18-49 rating. The season finale of Parenthood earned a 1.7, down 11 percent from last week's 1.9 adults 18-49 rating—and down 11 percent from a 1.9 for last season’s finale. Your predictions were too optimistic.

On the CW, Hart Of Dixie scored a 0.7, up 17% from last week's 0.6 adults 18-49 rating. Emily  Owns M.D. earned a 0.5, up 66% from last week's 0.3 adults 18-49 rating.

Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    How many episodes of Betty White could they produce in a year?

    They have at least 20 this season and presumably 30 wouldn’t be unrealistic. They could air it like Cops or old-school AFHV and just pair a new episode with a repeat and fill an hour of the schedule for the full year.

    NBC didn’t promote Parenthood much about the finale. Crap! Still won in its demo graphic though.

    Considering there’s only 8 episodes of Go On and The New Normal left, is NBC going to air them continuously for the next 8 weeks and launch something new out of The Voice (Save Me/ Hannibal)? Because if they don’t they’d be wasting The Voice lead in on Go On/ New Normal reruns a lot of weeks.

    NaNi – Perry just needs to move into the Cul-de-Sac on Cougar Town and be a new neighbor who joins the gang. Courtney Cox isn’t going anywhere else anytime soon.

    Last night I officially fell for the charm of Emily Owens. Too bad it’s cancelled but at least The CW didn’t pull an ABC on it and banish it to the summer for it’s last few episodes. Nice to see it tick up.

    Everything else I watch on Tuesday is on other networks aside from these ones. Nothing on Tuesdays appeal to me out of the major networks.

    Sounds just like something the idiots at ABC would do and then burn off QUALITY TV like Happy Endings during the summer when reality crap like THE TASTE should be premiring in late may!

    ABC’s goal is to make money. The Taste is cheaper and draws significantly more viewers than your so-called quality tv.

    I find it kind of weird that the past 2 weeks, Betty Whites 2nd episode was always higher then the first but this week it went lower and it affected the entire line-up.

    Great night for the Fox comedies last night, wish more people would watch these shows. Best two hours of comedy on TV.

    I love it. Guys with Kids doing better than The New Normal….I hope they give Guys with Kids another season! Please NBC give that great Guys with Kids another season. The New Normal can be renewed to for the fans.
