TV Ratings Tuesday: Decent Start for 'The Taste', 'New Girl' & 'Private Practice' Up, 'Parenthood' Down, 'Go On' & 'The New Normal' Hit Lows

ABC was the number one network in adults 18-49 while CBS was on top with total viewers.

On ABC the two hour series premiere of The Taste earned a 2.2 adults 18-49 rating up 5 percent from a 2.1 for the season premiere of Dancing with the Stars in the time period last fall. The series finale of Private Practice garnered a 1.5, up 25 percent from last week's 1.2 adults 18-49 rating. Your predictions were about right.

On FOX, Raising Hope scored a 1.7, up 6 percent from last week's 1.6 adults 18-49 rating. Ben And Kate earned a 1.2, up 9 percent from last week's 1.1 adults 18-49 rating. New Girl garnered a 2.1, up 11 percent from last week's 1.9 adults 18-49 rating. The Mindy Project notched 1.5 among adults 18-49, even with last week.

On NBC, Betty White’s Off Their Rockers garnered a 1.6 at 8PM, up 7 percent from last week's 1.5 Adults 18-49 rating. A second episode at 8:30 notched a 1.8 adults 18-49 rating, even with last week. Go On earned a season low 1.3, down 24 percent from last week's 1.7 adults 18-49 rating. The New Normal scored a season low 1.2 down 14 percent from last week's 1.4 adults 18-49 rating. The season finale of Parenthood earned a 1.7, down 11 percent from last week's 1.9 adults 18-49 rating—and down 11 percent from a 1.9 for last season’s finale. Your predictions were too optimistic.

On the CW, Hart Of Dixie scored a 0.7, up 17% from last week's 0.6 adults 18-49 rating. Emily  Owns M.D. earned a 0.5, up 66% from last week's 0.3 adults 18-49 rating.

Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    I think the taste did great for a cheap-midseason show. I would renew it for the summer or something. It won the 8 pm hour.

    I understand that. They are, however, in my opinion not looking at the bigger picture. Temp saves like this is not going to help them in the long run. Look at the mess NBC got themselves into cause of that.

    SO Betty White’s Off Their Rockers is best half hour show on NBC, is that right? I mean for ratings.

    Never watch it. Will download episodes later. Can Ultima or else explain what exactly is this show i know that is not sitcom.

    How can Hart of Dixie fans say that tuesday is the most competitive night looking at the demos here it looks like the least competitive night of all their night even friday is more competitive now with no new episodes of NCIS. No wonder it has good ratings today

    Starting to like Emily Owens but I really wish Mamie Gummer would open her mouth just a little. Sometimes it feels like she is mumbling and it can be really annoying. Can’t wait to see her and Micah get together. They were so close last night!!!

    With NBC’s Tuesday comedy block falling and Thursday fallen, I think Guys With Kids has a shot at least for midseason. NBC loves Jimmy Fallon that could help

    Parenthood seem like they wrapped up all the story lines just in case of it was cancelled but I don’t see that happening. They also have set up next years storyline pretty well.
    Lets hope they get 22 episodes assuming it comes back. Having the show off the air for 8-9 months doesn’t help it’s ratings.

    I was pretty surprised that Univision was the #2 network. I liked The Taste, but IMO there were too many “boo-boo, I regret my decision” moments from the judges. Either make a decision and stick to it, of make one you won’t actually regret.

    I think having the show off-air for 6-7 months has helped its ratings. I think people have been catching up on Netflix.

    Hart of Dixie fans say that Tuesdays are competitive because they usually are. During the fall HOD was up against The Voice, NCIS and Dancing With The Stars. Dancing, Despite dancings falling ratings it still pulls a large audience. When all three of those shows are new again HOD will have to prove itself. Also to note, last season HOD didn’t go above a .6 after it came back in January. So it did pretty good, and is building year to year.
