Will 'American Idol's' Ratings Fall in Week 2? - Poll

Last week, the American Idol premiere earned a 6.0 adults 18-49 rating. It was a significant drop from last season, but still a huge number. Now that viewers have gotten a taste of the Mariah Carey-Nicki Minaj "rivalry", will they be back for more? Make your ratings predictions below.

  • rob60990

    5.4

  • Cyrax86

    A drop of 1 or 2 tenths.

  • Kyle

    5.8-5.6

  • Skp53

    Their biggest mistake=Nicki Minaj

  • CBSviewer

    5.5

  • Paul

After watching last weeks premier, I don’t know if I can stomach a whole season of Nicki Minaj. She is not only rude but couldn’t give me any advise unless it is how to act act ghetto and look like a clown on television.

  • Luke

Against Big Bang? That question doesn’t even deserve an answer.

High time for Idol. If they dip under 5.0 tonight AND tomorrow, I think it’s game over, because it opens the door for multiple shows in the low-3s in the 18-49 realm by the time the competition gets down to 8 people. It was at that point (during the results) where we saw the show hit an all-time-low 3.9.

Around 5.4. This is going to be a low season…Go TBBT!

  • Remote Patrolled

I think it will fall but for my money this new panel has been great so far.

A lot more genuine judging, commentary and insight this year – a HUGE improvement over the terrible panel last year.

  • Anna Bones Clarkwood

Luke, this is for Wednesday’s airing & even then, Big Bang is not new tomorrow (Thursday) anyways (TBBT will return next Thurs the 31st).

I say mid 5s both nights. AKA 5.3-5.7. More than likely a few tenths drop for both nights. I think enough ppl will stick around to see just what they show of the Nicki-Mariah fight which occurred in the city that they are airing today (Wednesday).

As far as this season goes, it’s going to continue to drop as the season goes even if only .1 since last week. We will see multiple 3s this year. We will also see multiple under 15mil this year.

Can anyone tell me why when I hear about ad rates for Idol it’s that as the season progresses the rates go up and that is why it is hard to figure out just how much an avg ad rate is for Idol, compared to other shows? All the ratings I’ve seen have shown that audition episodes have the highest demo so they should get the highest ad rates not the other way around.

@Anna Bones: It’s the nature of the show. This show is an entertainment show, where the theory (as I see it) is that, as the number of contenders winds down, the suspense increases.

Be that as it may, I suspect that the ad rates for this season are far lower than they were in, for example, the 5th season, when this show was drawing 30 million. No one in their right mind would pay $500,000 per 30-second segment to have their ads appear during the course of what is clearly a dying show; maybe $300,000, but not much more.

well, we certainly wont be accused of being too optimistic on this poll.

  • BigBrotherFan

of course it will! Most shows fall in their second weeks -NOTE-I SAID ‘MOST’

    5.0 is my guess

  • CookyMonzta

And yea, Anna; we are likely to see multiple 3s in the demo. Wait until we get down to 8 people for the massacre to be in full swing. Highly likely that one show will draw less than 14 million, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it draws fewer than 13 million.

With CBS and NBC showing reruns for part of prime-time tonight, January 23rd (CBS from 8 to 9 P.M. ET/PT; NBC for it’s entire prime-time lineup), “Idol” may get a 5.7 in the 18-49 demo.

    Otherwise, I would have projected a 5.3.

“Idol”‘s still a hit, but not the juggernaut it was during it’s first decade.

  • Phill

    5.4 – 5.7 i guess

  • KingRon84

CBS is smart here with TBBT, even though TBBT would beat Idol even CBS knows that Idols largest numbers come the first couple of weeks due to the auditions so when TBBT comes back with new episodes it will have missed the auditions and start crushing its competition again.

5.9-6.4 but this season American Idol is strong (Carey, Minaj)

  • JoJo

Idol will continue to fall until the live shows start. Then it most likely become steady.
