It may not have made our Sunday top 100 cable ratings this week, but HBO has already picked up Girls for a third season, according to the show's creator Lena Dunham. Deadline reports that Dunham gave the scoop to Alec Baldwin while appearing on his podcast. Dunham said that the show will start filming its third season in March. Based on the ratio of its ratings to the amount of articles written about it, every single person person who watches Girls blogs about it. The show just won a Golden Globe for best comedy, which may have factored into its early renewal. Dunham has a history of breaking news about her own show, tweetin the date of its second season premiere before HBO announced it.

    @gerry

    No, there’s no shortage of TV out there, just on HBO which is total toilet with Girls circling the bowl.

  • Glover

    Enlightened is number 1 show on Metacritic with an 96% average. I’m surprised HBO didn’t announced the renewal yet.

  • BigBrotherFan

    Oh, yeah because I think Dunham if trashy and looks like a monster than makes me sexiest or something. Don’t be HYSTERICAL now. I think the same about Dane Cook.

  • gerry

    @jim

    sorry you feel that way. when i think of shows circling the bottom of the bowl, i think of 2 1/2 men. different strokes for different folks, i suppose.

    You don’t even watch the show; just admit it. I’d wager you attempted, and possibly made it through the pilot before making your mind up on the entire show. You don’t like it, or Enlightened, apparently. So cancel your HBO subscription, and move on to the comments section that has something to do with shows you do enjoy. That’d surely be a better use of your time.

    No surprise, Lana Dunham stated that HBO was talking about Season 3 before 2 even began.

  • forg

    Well HBO kept Treme which don’t receive much critical attention and awards so no surprise for Girls. I don’t like Girls simply because it’s not funny to me but comedy is subjective anyway. But please people saying this show is just for “intelligent’ people are too full of themselves.

    @Weez

    I don’t share opinions regarding things I have not viewed. In future do not dictate where I should or should not post comments.

  • WhatEverU

    Gee, someone must have a very good daddy. This show is definitely the worst anywhere right now. Who is watching it? Not me.

    Oh, we got a keyboard warrior here. Continue to waste your time then; I don’t care. But stop acting like you watch the show, because you clearly don’t. You’re just another – among the many, oddly enough – that criticize things they’ve never truly watched, simply to be a contrarian. I can tell because you haven’t done anything except throw broad, oft-repeated (by others who don’t actually watch the show) without citing any specific examples. “Bad writing!” Example, please. “Poor characters!” …example… “Sense of entitlement, and/or nepotism!” You clearly don’t watch the show. The attitudes, actions, and dialogue of the characters in this show are very much more self-aware than critics such as yourself seem to grasp. In fact, that’s clearly a huge part of the thematic core of the show, which makes those criticisms even more hilariously off-base.

  • JimSweatsBullets67

    @Weez

    Would you like a signed affidavit stating that I’ve watched a specific amount of the show?

  • Dan

    We’ve known this really since November
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/12/girls-season-3-hbo_n_2117810.html but I guess HBO is making it official and they would obviously keep it around. The critical acclaim is just too good.

  • Weez

    @ JimSweatsBullets67

    Yeah, sure. Or you could just criticize the show in a manner consistent with what actual criticism consists of – specific examples and reasoning as to why you hold that opinion. Or you can just continue the blind hate – I don’t really care, to be honest. It’s your time; use it as you see fit.

  • JimSweatsBullets67

    @Weez

    Well, if you don’t really care… then neither do I. I’ll continue to badmouth Girls where and when I want, and you can continue enjoying terrible TV. Bye now.

  • Weez

    @JimSweatsBullets67

    Yeah, because Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Justified, Louie, Treme, Veep, Sherlock, Boardwalk Empire, Magic City, etc. is “bad television”. I know you’re playing coy and what not, but I also noticed that you didn’t respond with one valid critique even after I said that that’s all it would take to “prove” that you do and/or did watch the show. Except you don’t watch the show, and you’re simply being a hater. Now I’ll await your response where you say you don’t have to prove anything to anyone, especially me… Hate on the show all you want – I just want you to admit that you don’t actually watch it. Then I’ll leave you to loudmouth anything and everything you’d like to, in peace.

  • BigBrotherFan

    @Shoes

    Okay..Back it up there. I only started posting here during the summer and picked that name cause GUESS WHAT!? Big Brother was airing and is one of the top draws in the summer AND It’s one of the few reality shoes I watch (survivor).

    I would call myself a MUCH BIGGER NASHVILLE, CURB, SCANDAL, REVENGE, MINDY PROJECT, WEEDS, GO ON, HAPPY ENDINGS FAN before Big Brother..What do you want me to do? Change it and put a disclaimer at the bottom for the next few months?

    SORRY. Try again.

    The show is a piece of overrated poorly acted GARBAGE! I gave this girl the benifit of the doubt after seeing the overrated borefest TINY FURNITURE or whatever the heck it was called. I even gave her another chance after the first season of this garbage and her completley sick political spot. I STOPPED giving her chances after this won the GOLDEN GLOBE and people started calling her “THE VOICE OF A GENERATION”..UMMM…YEAH..Okay..SHE IS NO VOICE FOR MY GENERATION! If this is our voice then my gen is in some BIG TROUBLE!

    TRASHY. CLASSLESS. ANNOYING.

  • Peter

    @WhatEverU “Gee, someone must have a very good daddy. This show is definitely the worst anywhere right now. Who is watching it? Not me.”

    Good for you, but 4-5 million cumulative viewers per week are watching it. And you’re going to seriously tell me that Big Bang Theory, 2 Broke Girls and 2 and a Half Men are more thought-provoking shows and have better writing than Girls????? Give Me a Break!!!!

  • Peter

    @BigBrotherFan “.SHE IS NO VOICE FOR MY GENERATION”

    People misunderstand that scene. Lets differentiate between Lena Dunham and Hannah Horvath. Lena Dunham has never said that she is the voice of any generation. Hannah Horvath was on drugs when she said that and Lena Dunhams writing was making fun of Hannah.

  • JimSweatsBullets67

    @Weez

    I don’t have to prove anything to anyone… especially you…

    However…

    My biggest issue with Girls is that I feel like nothing means anything to the characters. The pointless first world problems are what they focus on, but the real world problems and issues are mocked and sidelined. Especially by the lead, who’s attitude always comes off as snide, superior, and entitled. Do viewers really enjoy this smug, self-serving person? She’s someone who in the real world, I would not want to know and if I did, I’d pretend I did not. Watching such a person is not enjoyable and I feel like celebrating the character is a disservice.

    What I’ve seen of the show (about half of the episodes) I’ve watched simply because I share a house with 2 other people, and each time I’m left with the same impression of the characters – awful people. Selfish, soulless, without any redeeming qualities. If that is the part that’s being played and written then fine, but I do not imagine that is who these characters are meant to be, and I can only assume that whoever is writing the show has some bizarre idea of what a whole-person – a girl – actually is. I certainty have never met one such person.

    Not that I watch TV to see angels in halos playing Mother Teresa or anything, but when I hear that Girls is an accurate portrayal of the modern female, “THE VOICE OF A GENERATION” as noted above, I feel a little sick.

    I hope that answers your question because I really do not want to debate it further.
