ABC ranked #2 on Wednesday night in Adults 18-49 to a 2-hour Idol-driven Fox. ABC’s Modern Family was once again Wednesday’s #1 scripted TV show across all key Adult demos (AD18-34/AD18-49/AD25-54).

At 8pm, ABC’s The Middle grew week to week in Total Viewers (+4%) Adults 18-49 (+9%) to 9-week highs on both measures (since 11/14/12) and ranked as the #1 scripted show in its half-hour.

At 8:30pm, The Neighbors built over the prior week in viewers (+3%) and young adults (+6%) and was the top-rated scripted show in its slot among Adults 18-49.

Spiking over its lead-in at 9pm (+116%), ABC’s Modern Family led its nearest scripted competition in the half-hour by 37% in Adults 18-49 (CBS’ Criminal Minds). Modern Family was up week to week with Adults 18-34 (+3%).

In the 9:30pm half-hour, ABC’s Suburgatory built its overall audience week to week (+3%) and held all of its Adult 18-49 number. Like its lead-in, Suburgatory was up over the prior week with Adults 18-34 (+13%)

During the 10 o’clock hour, ABC’s Nashville took second to CBS’ CSI in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, while wining in the hour with Women 18-34 for its 3rd straight telecast. Season to date, Nashville is one of the Top 5 biggest percentage gainers in TV playback and the top new show (tied w/Revolution), jumping by 63% in Adults 18-49 (+1.2 rating points - from a 1.9 L+SD rating to a 3.1 L+7 rating). The ABC freshman drama also adds on 2.8 million viewers to its preliminary L+SD tally in the L+7 finals (6.2 million to 9.0 million).

That picture was from awhile ago…Still, good job ABC!

  • KIC

Yeah!! I know it’s not a popular view but I LOVE The Neighbors. It’s the sweetest show on TV It’s NO Alf like people claim and it always makes me laugh and feel good.

  • Jeff R.

    @KIC – I agree 100% – I love it.

  • Rebecca

I’m loving Neighbors and The Middle a lot this season, but I’ve always loved The Middle. Often funnier than Modern Family, great show.

  • Harma

Good for Neighbors. I still don’t get why it gets so much hate

  • Irene

    Middle is great show.

I still also watch AI but I think many wait until they go to California. Watching the preliminary gets tiresome. That part will not be cut because there are millions of fans who watch from day 1 and have favs they follow to the win. It is what it is.

I am hoping they are not showing the best because so far I am not really impressed. I saw some more impressive singers in the other years. This year seems really dull to me. Like I said I hope there are surprises they are not showing. I am hoping it is a new strategy to increase ratings down the road.

Have always thought critics loved “Modern Family” because, first of all, it IS a good show but also the family lives in a very nice house and they have very nice clothes and they seem to have the best of everything and maybe they could relate more to that than they could “The Middle” which is Just as funny in its own way. Atleast the USA critic is always pushing the show and thinking Eden -Sue- deserves an Emmy supporting actress-comedy nomination. Me too.
“The Neighbors” has gotten to where i look forward to seeing what they will be doing each week. The “housewives” scenes with Jackie was great comedy and loved the Prom show – lot of things in that one that were touching and actual truths. The new ad for The Neighbors is perfect – starting out with the bad reviews and now more saying, hey this Is good. And it’s o.k. to say we like it now,.
