Faith3: We are talking about Obama’s comment of: “If I can create a new law or change a current laws that saves one child’s life then we should do it.” That statement brings up the topic of a***tion in my eyes. If it’s about changing laws to save children changing the a***tion law we can save many children’s lives. You, Obama and liberals are calling it a red herring because of course when they mean create or change they only mean gun control.
Faith3, you have to see the hypocrisy in talking about saving the lives of children when it comes to gun control and allowing ab**tion which now after 40 years science has proven to us to be alive, have heart beats at 8 weeks and can live outside the mother at 21 weeks.
You can’t say every life is important and support a***tion. See you only want to change or create laws that support you’re agenda. If you truly cared about human life, all human life you would fight just as hard for changes in ab**tions laws as gun control laws.
It makes me sad that you can’t see a baby inside it’s mother as a life. That you support making changes to laws

Mark, I like the photo of Obama drinking the pepsi.

As for birth control, I had always found it strange that insurance companies didn’t cover it. It is a lot cheaper than paying for a pregnancy and the baby. However, many don’t cover it because 95% of people will pay for it out of their own pocket. I had heard of Ryan’s fight against birth contol but I have heard about republicans saying forcing businesses to pay for birth control is against their religous freedom. Simply, if I’m against birth control, I shouldn’t be forced to provide it to my employees.
I found it strange that people are fighting so hard for something that cost only $5 a month.
Birth control is a stupid thing to fight on both sides. I’m on the side of let them have it. It’s not free through. We are all paying for it.

“We are talking about Obama’s comment”

I see. You should then comment to the person who was talking about Obama’s comment. That was not me.

If you want to research 50 state budgets for the last 10 years have at it. If you can proof a state is ripping off the fed govt just because they get more than they pay in then you can state your case that the richer states are being ripped off. As of today your basing your argument on the tax system.
    —————-
I just get sick of people somehow getting joy that California or Illinois somehow are having financial problems as if it’s somehow an inditement on liberalism, so I am just pointing out the fact those 2 states are not the ones that are a problem in the country draining the Federal Governments bank account, infact they give more to the Federal government then they take

Number two, if that were remotely true, you would not of even made your “stupid as usual” comment.

  • Sicilian Papa

I just finished reading a number of stories about the political affiliations of this new wave of mass murders. I read a vigorous defense by a left leaning writer regarding the political and religious affiliations of these young, white, middle class mass murders. The writer claims there is no evidence to suggest these people are secular or affiliated in any way with the left.

He claims there is simply no way of knowing. In the case of the Arizona and Colorado murders why not simply ask them since they are alive. He could ask or look up the public records of the Columbine parents. If there was a hint they where Tea Party members, Republicans, or Christians the corrupt, secular, left wing media would be all over it. NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times would make sure everyone heard this information. Remember they effectively blamed Sarah Palin for the Colorado shooting.

The writer also highlights a number of mass killings committed by right wing extremists. These mostly older white men had lived failed lives and had an ax to grind with whatever group because their failures. I remember hearing about their political and religious affiliations at the time of there murder sprees. The point being the corrupt, secular, liberal media did not ignore their affiliation and in most cases highlighted them.

Matthew can call me liar but I am calling this one like I see it. The corrupt, secular, left wing media reports what they want people to hear and also omits what they don’t want people to know.

These killers are different and to bury our heads in the sand and say all we have to do is get rid of guns is missing the point totally. These young, middle class, secular, white mass murders are a different breed.

  • Jeff

@s.papa, good to see you back again!

Hope all is well with you and your family!

  • Matthew

If there was a hint they where Tea Party members, Republicans, or Christians the corrupt, secular, left wing media would be all over it.

So you have zero evidence to back up the assertions you’re making here, so instead you’re going to base an entire argument on the idea that “surely the ‘liberal media’ would tell us if they were Republican!” That is just stupid, self-deluding nonsense. Who says they have any political affiliation at all?

You seem to be willfully ignoring facts: As I told you yesterday, in some cases we know as a matter of fact that these guys weren’t registered voters, and beyond that, why would the media dig into what their family’s party registration? Do you not understand how that is an inherently scummy act, especially when most of these crimes aren’t politically motivated.

In the case of someone like Anders Breivik, we know his ideology because it was the primary motivator of his crimes; with someone like Adam Lanza, we don’t know his ideology, because he didn’t seem to have one. He left no manifesto, no horde of Youtube videos, nothing. Most of these killers committed their acts without any political, religious, or racial motivation.

Matthew can call me liar but I am calling this one like I see it.

You’re calling it the way you want it to be, and presenting it as an argument with some sort of factual basis. It isn’t. It’s the same partisan, My Team vs Your Team nonsense you’ve always traded in.

These young, middle class, secular, white mass murders are a different breed.

And this, again, is outright lying. We (for the most part) don’t know their party affiliation, but we DO know whether or not they were secular, and almost across the board, they weren’t (or, at the least, their families weren’t). This is a matter of fact, not opinion.

  • Sicilian Papa

    @

    Hi Jeff,

I am walking back the political affiliation of these recent young, white male killers. After reading their actual comments, they do not fit neatly into one camp or another. I am holding firm that what is promoted in today culture feeds the psychosis of these people. These killers are a new breed and kill for different reasons than the political ideologue. Making guns less available to them will not stop most of them but it may stop a few. Some will not have the social skills to go on the streets to secure illegal weapons. The down side is you open up a black market for people that want these weapons and skills to secure them.

Note: I have only owned one gun in my life. I don’t hunt or fish and the only time I ever shot the gun was to learn how to use it.

  • Sicilian Papa

    @

    Matthew

I found plenty of evidence, but that evidence is opposed by the left. I would have to talk to the shooters or hear from someone who did to be positive. But yes, I know how the corrupt media works. If they omit you can bank on the fact that they don’t want the facts to come out because it would hurt their political agenda. That in itself is evidence that is undeniable.

I have been watching this game for 40 years and I know the corrupt, secular, so-called objective media like the back of my hand.

  • Matthew

That in itself is evidence that is undeniable.

Lack of evidence is…evidence? The media reported nothing about their political affiliation, so we can just assume AS FACT that they were Democrats? Sorry, but that’s just absurd. Again, most of these killers are so young that they aren’t even registered, and don’t seem to care about politics either way.

And if you’re going to whine about ‘liberal culture,’ why doesn’t that apply to your supposed golden era of the 40s – 70s? 1932 – 1979 is, in essence, the highest point of liberal and progressive influence in all of America history, the period when liberals held the most power, and even many elected Republicans were center-left. The Reagan Revolution changed that dynamic.

Our culture (if a country with 310 million humans and 50 different states can even be said to have any one culture) is what all of us have made of it, not just one half. If we’re a culture of self-indulgence and immediate pleasure, we can also be said to be a culture of militarism, cutthroat competition, and callousness toward those who’ve stumbled in life, and some of those are conservative and libertarian cultural contributions.

The bottom line is, this mentality in the wake of an event like Newtown to find someone to blame, someone to scapegoat, and someone whose rights should be reduced is an ugly habit (which it seems both the left and the right are indulging in). Since the beginning of this incident I’ve heard it suggested that: Gun owners should lose some of their Second Amendment rights, movie and video game makers should lose some of their First Amendment rights, the mentally ill should be forced into a tracking database, or we should station armed guards in front of our schools like we’re the f-ing Congo.

Enough! Maybe, instead of trying to find someone or something to blame, someone’s freedoms to stomp on, we should understand that in a nation this large and diverse, terrible things will occasionally happen, and not every terrible thing that happens has any rhyme or reason to it, not every terrible thing has a satisfying explanation. We spend all of our time dwelling on the rare, extraordinary acts of evil (and lets be clear, rampage killings are exceedingly rare), and ignore all of the good that’s right in front of our faces.

  • Jeff

@s.papa, your views are impossible for me to swallow. Given history, and that other countries do not have the amount of gun deaths as we do. They play the same games, see the same movies, high divorce, strayed from Religion, have many situations that are far from the all-American family model. Your comment sounds good coming from a evangelist or right wing extremist on the radio or on Fox News. But to me it sounds very out of touch, and has got to be abit tounge and cheek given the facts.

Note I used to own 3 guns (rifles) and hunted every fall/winter. I have nothing against rifles, or hand guns in the hands of owners with background checks and are registered. I am strongly against assault weapons and military style weapons in the hands of citizens. All assault weapons should be collected and forbidden to be obtained.

Mention that founding father $hit,to me……. I say go get yourself as many musket & bayonets as you desire.

  • cathy

@jeff, you forgot one thing that also happened last week.

Federal court rules against Obama NLRB appointments.
Sometimes the balance of power does work. I’m happy the court slapped other Presidents for doing it too.

So, I turned on MSNBC to get some kool-aid. I really wanted to feel better about the direction of our country. Well it was a wrong choice, I turned it on in time to see Ted Kopple say, “We are heading into one of the most dangerous peroids our country has even seen. A) it’s not over in Afghanistan B) al qaeda is in Pakistan which has a 100 nuclear weapons c) Syria, people want us to side with the rebels but there are 1000s of al qaeda members in the rebel forces D) Iran if they don’t pull back from making nuclear weapsons, by April Israel will attack. If Israel attacks Iran, Iran has said they will attack the U.S.” Another Host Bob Woodward says, “North Korea has already said they want to target the U.S. and they have nuclear weapons, then what just happened in Algeria, we still have problems with Egypt. Andrea Mitchell talked about how we needed to stay involved. Ted Kopples closing statement, “One of the greatest mistakes the President has made is leaving the American people with a sense that al qaeda has been dealt with and that the war in Afghanistan is over and the war in Iraq is over. These are still problems that need to be addressed.”

Go to Meet the Press website and listen for yourself. Your man Ted Kopple, “Mr. Fox news is bad for American.” SAID it.

And of course Mr. Kopple was being nice and supporting the President. Because we now know the truth. Obama lied to the American people about the state of forgein affairs so he could win re-election.

@cathy, I accept the courts decision, but condemn the Republicans for obstructing the Presidents appointments just to play political games, as I was against the Dems doing it to Bush. (Except Bolton!!)

Soooooo, the world has a lot of bad stuff going on……nothing new there.

Matthew, I agree about looking for a spacegoat. We can’t stop these rare events. We need to look at the facts. The FBI reports show that crime and gun crime is down.
Let’s look at the current laws and see if they are working or not. The Sandy Hook shooter did try to buy a gun and was stopped by the law. I think they reported he tried to buy a gun two different places or times.

@Jeff, I can’t have a musket with a bayonets because the bayonet on the musket makes it an ASSAULT WEAPON. Have you researched what is an assault weapon and what is not? I don’t think you have. Many of the so called assault weapons that are on the banned list are rifles that just have a military look. Put a hand grip behind the trigger of a rifle and it’s an assault weapon, put a powerful scope on a rifle and it’s an assault weapon Put a bayonet on a rifle and it’s an assault weapon.

Jeff, I believe you are in the uneducated group of people that believes assault weapon means machine gun. Pull the trigger once and a hundred bullets come out. That’s not what Obama and democrats in congress are talking about. Automatic (machine guns) are already illegal. A standard shot gun and hand gun are semi-automatic. One trigger pull one shot, then the gun loads the next shot. You need to look at what the Obama and congress are calling an assault rifle before you side with them.

Jeff, and you are OK with Obama lying about everything being OK in the middle east to help him win re-election?

  • cathy

Obama never even tried to get those appointments through the congress. Obama got a large number of appointments through congress. So, I’m not buying the Obama administrations talking point on this one.
