Changes This Week:
Remember not so long ago when many were lamenting how long it was taking for the fates of Leverage, Alphas, and Drop Dead Diva? At least as far as status updates went, those were the good old days. We've now moved on to the more snooze-worthy (Zzzzzzzzzzzz) dog days of winter. Yeah, I know dog days are for summer, and it's winter and it's like 20 degrees at midday in New York City today. But, it's summer in the southern hemisphere so hello to our readers from Australia and Argentina! None of that makes this update any more interesting, but still...
HBO officially renewed Girls for a 12 episode 3rd season and TBS canceled The Wedding Band after its freshman season. That's pretty much a wrap on the changes for this week. Starz' Spartacus returned on Friday for its final season so its status has been updated. I've also changed Dallas to reflect that it's in its second season, even though that's a couple of days away and gone ahead and added FX's The Americans to the list even though it doesn't premiere until Wednesday. Just playing it safe in case with the Super Bowl coming up next week I decide to punt on a new post next weekend and merely update this one.
Notes:
- Kids shows and Adult Swim shows are not on the list below
- I've seen some squawking about shows on the list below that are owned/created by networks/studios outside of the United States. For purposes of this list, which focuses on U.S. cable networks, I'm only focused on where the shows air here in U.S.
- Shows from overseas like Downton Abbey & Sherlock that air on PBS in the U.S. are not in the list below (PBS is not a cable network), though ITV has renewed Downton Abbey for a 4th season in the UK which will ultimately air in the states.
- Despite some current inconsistencies in the table below, I do not intend to track episode orders or return dates specifically in this table at this time. The primary goal of the table is: what's been renewed, what's been canceled, and what shows fates haven't been decided yet.

Most of the shows on the list have statuses - if there isn't a status that just means there has been no announcement at the time of the most recent update (see date at top of post and/or above the table below).

GIRLS will be canceled after it’s third season. People will lose interest. We aren’t blinded by a paid-for GOLDEN GLOBE. People will see the show for what it is and it will be canceled. I wonder if the monster will announce the cancelation before HBO. LENA can’t keep her big mouth shut but I doubt she would announce that before HBO, but who knows? She does with its pick-ups.
I’m a bit worried for DALLAS but it does 3 times better than GIRLS so I hope it can maintain a 0.7 this season.
Mad Men comes back in APRIL and was robbed of a GOLDEN GLOBE I still think it’s going to be a ratings winner!
I heard somewhere, that FX will split into a comedy channel called FXX and FX with dramas? Is it true? Than i think there will be alot of renewals on that station
I don’t remember why Hung, How to make it in America and Bored to Death (last aired in 2011 and canceled in december 2011) are on the list…
DenverDean: “@Richard Steven “HACK” – perhaps that’s the word that triggers the spam filter!”
I’d consider that likely except I’ve been posting here for years under that name and it’s never happened before. Could have been an update to the spam filter, though. But you’d think that would be consistent.
As an aside, back in the 1980′s when bulletin board systems were the precursor to the Internet, I used to be refused access due to my name until I left a message for the “sysop” (as the owners were called in those days) explaining that “Hack” was really my name and not some sort of pseudonym.
Being in computer security and tech support makes my name very useful (for a change).
@Kennya – Thats still very early in development but if that’s the case than there will be a lot of renewals, but nothing is really on the bubble on FX as of now. Drama wise, Justified, Sons of Anarchy, American Horror Story are safe as probably The Americans, while comedies It’s Always Sunny, The League, Wilfred, Louie, Archer, and Anger Management are all safe as well so if they want to split
@BigBrotherFan – Girls has a long life on HBO, ratings aside, its critically acclaimed and HBO has a good relationship with Lena Dunham. It wont be cancelled anytime soon.
@POlo – Because Robert doesnt feel the need to take them off yet. Same with Sactuary that was axed back in 2011. Maybe another reason is that the three are the most recent scripted comedy series that HBO cancelled not counting Life & Times of Tim or Ricky Gervais. I’m sure they will be gone soon.
why isn’t adult swim listed?
yay us australians got a mention!
So much for your Brasilian fans! :/
Is it possible to have an, when last updated column, to each row? It is hard to tell what is new since I last looked. Another option is to just set the background to a different color, then at least I know what has changed since last update. Thanks, love the work.
At least Hell on Wheels is back on track (no pun intended).
@Adam
This is a weekly thing. Baring any kind of dramatic announcement from any Cable Network, this is how things stand.
Shame on TBS! I’m sure they don’t care about losing a few more fans. Boo. You suck! The first feel good show in a long time. Did I mention that TBS sucks?
