If you're thinking, "Gee, there must not be much to write about for CBS" you'd be right. Vegas continues as "likely to be canceled". I'd love for there to be as many crazy Fan Excuse Bingo players for it as there were for Harry's Law last season, but that doesn't look likely. Unlike Harry's Law, which had a lot of irrlevant total viewers compared to the rest of the NBC dramas which gave hope to the misguided, the total viewership of Vegas is nothing special compared to other CBS dramas.

The only other thing to talk about "Which of CSI:NY, The Good Wife or The Mentalist gets canceled?" will be back next week. I bet you just can't wait!

Note to the nitpicky commenters, although its just about as certain as it gets, while the cast and crew have signed on for another season, How I Met Your Mother has not yet been officially renewed. 1/30 update. Now officially renewed.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.
*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

** The Renew/Cancel Index does not attempt to predict shows ending because the cast or production company chooses to end them. These shows have the ratings for renewal, but rumored cast/production company moves may end the shows.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

Want to know what the CBS Renew/Cancel Index table looked like at the end of the Fall season? Click here.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

The Good Wife needs to go. CBS has kept this turkey long enough.

  • Dave

2 broke Girls, Hawaii, Criminal Minds and NCIS are certain so I’m happy :D

  • NewEnglandMike

I’d love it if Vegas could get picked up by Showtime or Starz, or FX, or even AMC so they could keep the great cast and do it right. You know, get rid of the “G” rating guidelines and make it real. Hey, a guy can dream.

  • Max Vrany

Can anyone besides me see CBS canceling more than 3 dramas* for extra comedy time?

*CSI:NY, The Good Wife and Vegas, in addition to the already canceled Made In Jersey

  • David Howell

Is there going to be a “could they cancel TWO bubble dramas?” post at some point? I guess that’s waiting in the variations on this theme that you have to drag out, assuming Golden Boy doesn’t sneak into toss-up territory (and in which case it becomes the answer to the question).

  • Bill Gorman

“Can anyone besides me see CBS canceling more than 3 dramas* for extra comedy time?

    I could.

It’s not out of the question that CBS reduces their drama hours by one, but I doubt I will go so far as *predicting* they’ll do that.

  • Blake Williams

I love Vegas!!!!!I would hate to see it get canceled ……maybe it can get picked up on cable…….

  • Max Vrany

@David, renewing Golden Boy and canceling 2 bubble dramas doesn’t gain CBS any comedy hours. If Golden Boy somehow succeeds, and CBS still wants another comedy hour CSI:NY, Made In Jersey, Vegas, The Good Wife and The Mentalist all have to go, unless they only premiere 2 new dramas, which I don’t see happening.

  • Jonay

Any chance CbS will air Blue Bloods on Sunday next season?

  • CBSviewer

    @ Jonay

Blue Bloods is too weak for Sunday. Sunday needs something *Bigger* to improve the night. My prediction is Hawaii Five-0 or Elementary to replace The Good Wife (I think it’s time for the Show to go !). BB will stay on Friday at 10 during all its run like NUMB3RS did.

  • Bob

Why cancel Rules of Engagement? They have been a great show for CBS…although CBS treats it like their stepson.

  • Anna

Funny, because the ONE CBS drama I CAN’T STAND is Blue Bloods.

  • Pepper

TGW will be cancelled, the Mentalist will be renewed

  • Justin

I love The Good Wife, so I hope CBS keeps it. Also, I don’t think I have ever been so mad over a shows renewal, but I am still upset over having to sit thru another BAD year of How I Met Your Mother. I plan to delete it from my DVR, and just wait til November 2014 when I can watch it on Netflix.

  • Honey Badger

@ Justin, I agree, the quality of How I Met Your Mother is very bad and keeps getting worse.
Ted has turned into a total jerk that everyone hates. And the rest of the characters on the show have are turned into people that are now disliked. CBS should not have renewed this show.

mentalist , csi ny and vegas and or they either cancel the new show coming up or do a rules with it. to cut the lower rated more season fat.

2 . mentalist , the good wife and csi ny go and they move either criminal minds , csi :lv , elementary and person of interest on sundays.

  • KJ Styles

I predict The Mentalist will be renewed. I don’t see all the bubble shows getting cancelled and Mentalist IMO has the best shot at renewal because it still has some value, and I don’t think they’d kill it without resolving the Red John storyline. They could air it on Friday nights next year instead of premiering another new drama on that night. Mentalist and Blue Bloods would be a good combination.

The Good Wife’s chances hinge on it getting a syndication deal. If it can’t land one by May, then there’s no reason to renew it. Emmy love can only get you so far. Even if it lands one though, I only see it getting a 13 episode final season next year.

CSI NY and Vegas are dead. Even if Golden Boy is cancelled I still don’t like CSI NY’s chances. It’s old, low rated, and Golden Boy shortened it’s season order. All of those things signal cancellation IMO. And Vegas’ ratings were even worse than Unforgettable’s last season in that timeslot.

They need to put Hawaii 5-0 on Tuesdays next year after the NCIS twins. It would raise H50’s ratings and CBS would win the night at every timeslot next year easily. As much as I like NCIS and NCIS LA, I don’t want another NCIS series. LA isn’t as good as the original and I’m certain that a new series would be a downgrade from LA.

  • DW

@kj there is no value in the mentalist since cbs doesn’t own it. the good wife on the other hand is owned by cbs so there is more value in it but not much.

  • PurpleDrasi

No way CBS will move any of those shows to Sunday. Criminal Minds and POI are doing very well ratings wise and helping to hold down the fort on important nights. Elementary is their baby and they are doing all they can to coddle it. CSI…what can I say. Its still kicking butt considering how old it is and doing very respectably on a difficult night.
