If you're thinking, "Gee, there must not be much to write about for CBS" you'd be right. Vegas continues as "likely to be canceled". I'd love for there to be as many crazy Fan Excuse Bingo players for it as there were for Harry's Law last season, but that doesn't look likely. Unlike Harry's Law, which had a lot of irrlevant total viewers compared to the rest of the NBC dramas which gave hope to the misguided, the total viewership of Vegas is nothing special compared to other CBS dramas.

The only other thing to talk about "Which of CSI:NY, The Good Wife or The Mentalist gets canceled?" will be back next week. I bet you just can't wait!

Note to the nitpicky commenters, although its just about as certain as it gets, while the cast and crew have signed on for another season, How I Met Your Mother has not yet been officially renewed. 1/30 update. Now officially renewed.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

** The Renew/Cancel Index does not attempt to predict shows ending because the cast or production company chooses to end them. These shows have the ratings for renewal, but rumored cast/production company moves may end the shows.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2013. However, until new episodes of a show air in 2013, I will keep the "old"  Fall predictions in the table.

Notes:

  • :oops: - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • :cry: :cry:- more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  • :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    No way, any of those dramas will get moved, especially to Friday and Sunday! I don’t see CBS moving TBBT to a Monday.

  • Cara

    I see CBS cancelling The Good Wife, before CSI NY or The Mentalist because these two shows do better than TGW! It makes sense for CBS to move Undercover Boss to a Sunday night, and airs a new drama on Friday night at 8 PM time slot.

    For anyone who wants to read tea leaves:

    There were apparently no promos including The Good Wife or the Mentalist during the Superbowl. Of course, there were also no promos including Criminal Minds…

  • Petar Ivanov

    @Holly
    Which shows was promoted during super bowl the most? I start to watch the game but unfortunately ads and prormos are cut from the game. In europe usually download without ads.

  • PurpleDrasi

    @Petar – mostly it was their comedies. Lots of TBBT, 2BG, Mike and Molly, etc…

    Other than Elementary and NCIS I don’t recall seeing an ad for their Dramas. I did turn the game off at the 10pm hour though so I may have missed some.

  • Petar Ivanov

    @PurpleDrasi

    Thanks. As i expected. What about TAHM? And also Grammys. Any Grammys promos?

  • Petar Ivanov

    CBS take #1 spot.

  • Ultima

    @Petar
    Which shows was promoted during super bowl the most?

    As best I can remember…

    They heavily promoted their Monday comedies and the retro-remake Hawaii Five-0. This is the same strategy that NBC used last year – go all-out on Monday promos, then promote everything else when it is cheaper on Monday and during the Grammys.

    There was a promo for the CSI crossover and plenty for Elementary.

    There was a Super Bowl specific Big Bang Theory promo and one for their entire comedy lineup.

    Each of their February premieres had essetially one promo (Survivor had two short ones and obviously Rules had more).

    There were a couple promos for the Grammys. And I think one for the Masters.

    There were also a couple of generic “were #1!” promos for the network.

    During Elementary, there were promos for most of their dramas… I think, I wasn’t all there by that point. ;)

  • Petar Ivanov

    @Ultima

    Strong memory. Thanks.

    I like Vegas. The ratings are good. Apparently, the only problem with the show is that the 18-49 age group is not up to par. Doesn’t anyone realize that the baby boomers are the fastest growing segment of the population? And they have the most money to spend!

  • michael

    they should not cancel Vegas for some comedy show.There is only so much you can say on comedy TV today and Vegas is a good show and based on a true story so do not cancel it or do not bother making TV series where your only gonna make one season.It is bad enough Emily Owens MD is cancelled now Vegas what next

    “they should not cancel Vegas for some comedy show.”

    No need to worry, they won’t.

    They’ll cancel it for another drama.

  • Roger

    This is sad! My wife and I like and watch: The Mentalist; The Good Wife; & Vegas! Remove The Mentalist & The Good Wife on Sunday night and we will be watching cable only shows or recorded shows Sunday night! Vegas is a good show with quality scripts and quality actors!

  • Mimi

    Vegas is the best show we’ve seen in years, now topping NCIS and NCIS Los Angeles on our personal rating scale. We record it while watching, then watch it again later in the week. If it’s not on, we’ll just go to bed, rather than watch any of the replacement programming.

  • Patsy

    Vegas is one of the best shows on tv. If it is cancelled I won’t be watching CBS at all on Tuesday nites. It is only getting better each week.

  • Jewel

    We love Vegas!!! It is not like other shows on and is always fun to watch. How do we push them to keep Vegas on?

    Also I don’t see it listed for the next two weeks. Anyone know why?? Hopefully it still has episodes that will air. We need to keep this show on!

  • pap

    I love Vegas and Good Wife, pleas don’t cancel

  • pap

    will Vegas be on after 2 wks?

  • Cathy

    I love Vegas, Person of Interest, Good WIfe, and Blue Bloods. I look forward to watching them each week. What has hurt some shows is when they are bumped for specials. Please reconsider Vegas and Good Wife. I did not watch GW the first season, but heard so much about it that I started to watch it this season, and I like it a lot! It seems like whenever a good show comes on, it gets cut and the goofy stuff gets high ratings. Who are they asking? Not me!!!

  • Janice

    Vegas is my show of the week! Great cast and story lines and based on a true character. If CBS does cancel it does need to be picked up by another network. TNT picked up “Dallas” and that great new series “Monday Mornings”. Maybe they need to pick up “Vegas” and keep up the good work.
